I mean, Pyoro liked Grubb's tweet about the direct getting delayed because of the Xbox thing like a week ago, so this doesn't really feel like a new development. Guess it's more explicit now, but we know how Pyoro uses likes to soft-confirm when people get things "right"

Anyway, I'm only really expecting Pentiment, but it'd be pretty neat if they manage to shadowdrop Hi-Fi Rush a second time
But why didn't pyoro know about the direct when it was "originally" going to drop?

Imagine, if you will, a timeline where we hadn't had
  • initial rumblings of Hi-Fi Rush going multiplat
  • that huge flood a few weeks ago of people claiming they'd heard everything from Pentiment to Starfield to Gears was being considered to go multiplat
  • that Xbox podcast last week laying out their multiplat strategy

But everything else proceeds pretty much unchanged. Anticipation for a general turns into anxiety tinged with excitement over a partner then to disappointment with the rumor of the Switch 2 being delayed. Ultimately a partner direct gets announced for the 15th, as expected.

And then Pyoro start leaking things as he's been doing these last few days, building excitement back up for a pretty ok partner, and then the bird drops the "is Xbox a partner" bomb out of nowhere

I'll admit, I'm a bit envious of the sheer absolute chaos we could have had if things had gone a bit differently

This is why I listen to insiders. They know what they’re talking about. It was discussed it was delayed because MICROSOFT had some games they would announce that would be in the Partners presentation. Microsoft moved their podcast up which made Nintendo had to move the direct back.

It was 100% delayed
So Microsoft was just going to let the direct originally have the announcements and surprise everyone? Before it was leaked that Microsoft was going to give games to other parties? I'm not following

However Pyoro's getting info, it doesn't seem to get to him until pretty shortly before it gets revealed

So my best guess would be at the time Pyoro was asked about it, he really just hadn't heard anything yet; either the info wasn't available to him yet, or Nintendo was originally planning to shadowdrop the direct and somehow that cut off whatever method/source Pyoro's been using to know the details of these things ahead of time

Honestly I think that would be a best case scenario, I too would also love nothing more than to see Honne's mother game concept be brought to life!

Yes, it's for the best. And that pitch was from even before MonolithSoft was part of Nintendo, so we can probably figure he was all in on it and likely would still be.

And, as a bonus, were Nintendo to decide to make the Mother trilogy in that clay style, Honne would be the guy first the job.

If Bandai Namco is involved in the partner showcase tommorow, what exactly would they reveal? maybe an anime game? or maybe a collection of games from one of their IPs?

Please give me a Tekken or SoulCalibur collection, I'd love that 🥺
The remaster of a series that's already part of a Nintendo series!

I know none of the four rumored XBOX to multiplatform games are Halo, but I'd love to see a shock announcement tomorrow. Just, boom, here's Infinite on the Switch.
Master Chief Collection would be more likely than Infinite imo
I'd probably prefer MCC personally, but regardless either Infinite or MCC to finally get a boomer shooter FPS on Switch would be a godsend.

...but I still can't let myself get hyped for an on-demand partner direct that will not have either game 🥲

I better go to bed before I start moping here when I have to wake up in 6 hours.

I've been so busy that I've barely had time to do more than read Pyoro's tweets. Hoping I get to pick up some shadow drops while I'm traveling 🤞

See, I suggest Infinite because it's live service, so it's constant money for Microsoft. And Nintendo, for that matter, whatever cut they get.
It's currently averaging like 5000 players a day on Steam.

Unless they're planning some massive update that will overhaul the game in a big way, I don't think they'll bother bringing it to more platforms. It's pretty dead.

I know Nate mentioned Banjo being green lit a while back. Don’t know if the game would be ready whatsoever, but just has the thought that it would be cool if a Banjo game was announced at a Direct. Would be a perfect place to do it, seeing as it would definitely be sold most to the Nintendo crowd.

However, I’m assuming it’s just going to be one or two of those games Phil mentioned the other day. The other day on the business update, he mentioned “We don’t want to announce the games now because the teams have plans to do soon.” - so this more than likely could be Hi Fi Rush? That would be a cool shadow drop.

I would think it's too early for that.

But I do agree that Microsoft would bring it to a Nintendo platform. Probably Switch 2 by the time it's ready to come out (2026?).

That being said, maybe a Banjo Kazooie + Tooie HD collection could release before then.

It's not the first time Microsoft has given games to other platforms, Ori, Cuphead etc. Granted those were indies that "belonged" on Switch and HFR and Pentiment are somewhat bigger titles but given they've got indie vibes to an extent I don't feel like it's a surprise they would have dropped them in a direct without prior announcement.
If the news hadn't leaked and people didn't immediately jump to "MS is going 3rd party, the console war is over #xBoned" then I don't think people would have freaked out in a bad way that those games were coming to other platforms.

I'm thinking the April Direct is 100% a Mini. It has to be, right? There's no way we get a Partner Showcase, an Indieworld, and a General Direct in the span of a month. April is just a weird month to have a Direct in general.

If Nintendo wants to unveil its own schedule until the end of the year, then a General is highly recommended. But if it's just for the summer, then a Mini would be enough, I suppose.

I mean in the end the situation isn' that different to when Ori and Cuphead came to Switch, so maybe they thought they could handle the situation the same way, but then the rumors started with talks about much bigger games going multiplat than is actually happening now.

All this prompted Mirsoft having to do damage control and honestly I interpreted theor PR speak as more games possibly coming than initially thought.

I can totally see what you're saying! Yeah, I agree it would be weird to have a larger General Direct before the console releases that only shows Nintendo Switch games but I do think maybe that's also reliant on what they do this June for next-generation! If the reveal is just a press-release and maybe a picture of the console, I think it'll be fine seeing Nintendo Switch games in September since we still won't ultimately know how much better everything looks until we get that first look, which could happen again in October I feel? If that First Look is in June though, I do agree that maybe the September Direct could be up in the air? Before the internal delay, they probably did plan to have one around the time of the console's release to highlight Next-Generation games but now that is probably not on the equation. Maybe they'll do a Mini around then instead of a General?

Ultimately I think a September Direct will probably rely on how much longer they intend to support the Switch from a first-party perspective! I mean, this will be the eighth full year (if I'm counting correctly) of Nintendo supporting the console so maybe they do more quickly move off the Switch from a first party perspective than we think, with Metroid Prime 4 maybe being the final Nintendo developed Switch game? We have the upcoming Pokémon Presents next week so we probably get something announced for Switch there (I think everyone, including myself, thinks it'll be what Nintendo's main anchor for the holiday will be) and then we'll probably get another Presents between June to August so a Direct in September probably wouldn't need to cover that Pokémon game!
That's a good point on how long Nintendo will support Switch with new first-party titles. I always thought they would have smaller A and/or AA Switch games to prolong into the first year of Switch 2. But then the last few directs already felt like that huh haha. So we'll see how long they can keep that up. The next General will be telling
I would imagine they have the actual format (pacing, graphics, etc) pretty down pat.

What I would think would be significant time-investment would be:
-Game footage
-Voice-over
-Live action speakers localization
-Third-party announcements (getting assets/scripts from them).

It shouldn't take more than a few weeks to put all that together, but its getting the assets in the first place that would probably hold things up.

Additionally, coordination in post-direct marketing/retail listings would probably be a time sink too.
Definitely agree. I remember watching the Last of Us 2 doc that released recently, and just making a single trailer for that game was a lengthy investment of time and manpower. Not something you can just whip together in two weeks. Plus the coordination involved with every team internally AND externally, I imagine it's quite the process. Would love to hear from someone who works on Directs to one day break down how they are produced!

I’m watching this Direct start to finish as intended and I can’t criticize anyone who jumps to the end since I did that the last time for the “Will Persona come to Switch” thread I was running at the time lol.

Was gonna play BG3 this morning but realised I should use the pre-Direct period to get stuff done and play BG3 after the Direct when this forum's melting down.

I’ll pass this question up for discussion.

Personally asking, have leaks come out yet? Historically I don’t believe there has been demand for separate threads.
There hasn't, but I also can't think of a time where we've been in a scenario like this with the direct and the presents being announced essentially the same day due to the direct delay. I guess ultimately not as many people care about the presents as the direct so it's probably not a big deal, was just a thought that popped in so I thought I'd ask.

Just a few more hours until Nintendo talks for a few minutes about other people's video games, then shuts up and goes back to being doomed, like they're supposed to.

There have been supposed leaks but nothing concrete that could be seen as true.

You know, it actually doesn't matter for me what they show.

Shadow of the Erdtree trailer means there's pretty much nothing that could ruin my mood today.
