"Industry chatter this week." "No confirmation." "The suggestion is circulating."

Copium, confirmation bias call it what you want.

Nintendo playing 5d chess, is the least likely explanation for this report.
...they have disseminated false information to catch leaks before.

Jumping to shout "bias" when you disagree isn't very convincing, either.

Nintendo Japan, maybe, but that doesn't mean they don't shed contractors in NOA the moment there's the slightest bit of friction.
thats just more of a general amercian thing tho, every company in the U.S will lay you off instantly if you give someone a bad look, while the managers will get millions in bonuses, this is not a NOA only thing.

So, Andy Robinson posted his article.

These claims come from two development sources, who ready games for Switch 2 for 2025.

.... "could not confirm if that meant a later than expected launch."

....... "could not confirm..."
wait... WHAT.

if this is also what Brazil's rumor is based on, then how is this even news??

two developers making games for 2025 = switch 2 is now 2025?? the leap there is kind of mind-boggling.

As long as we still see it next month, fine, I guess. Which it seems like we still will see it next month, somehow...no one's claiming that's changed, at least.

But who are the development sources? Game developers? I can believe that titles originally intended to release in late 2024 were pushed back to early 2025 but I don't know if that's enough to extrapolate that the system itself was pushed back.

wait... WHAT.

if this is what Brazil's rumor is based on, then how is this even news?? two developers making games for 2025 = switch 2 is now 2025?? huh...
Welcome to the pre-launch hysteria storm.

We'll be spun around a thousand times before reveal yet! Anchor yourself and bear the wind!

If you humor this, T239 in Q1 2025 is older tech than TX1 in Q1 2017 right? Or about the same? I know that's an oversimplification, but does that enable them to spec and launch a device at a more compelling price point, like $349.99 12-13 months from now?

Also assuming 3D Mario is still the launch title, that's one hell of a gap since SMO, close to 90 months apart.

It didn't sound like this is what Brazil's info was based on from the way the summary of his podcast was written.

2025 release for a chip that was supposedly taped out in 2022? 3 years between tape out and release or at that point is it more likely that they decided on a different SoC?
Are we really losing it over the unconfirmed report that an internal delay for a game we do not know exists may have happened?

It's a Nintendo console launch alright.

So the 5 Brazil sources on 3 continents...likely they are all game devs who think/know they're working on launch titles? I mean, still a lot of smoke.

Toto again in the VGC article. The Kevin Hart of Switch 2 articles.

I can’t see Nintendo announcing the new console in March 2024 for a 2025 release.

If that was the case, I can’t then see Nintendo not having a General Direct in February 2024 considering we only have Princess Peach Showtime in March, two remakes with a vague 2024 date, and Metroid Prime 4 missing in action.

2025 would be disastrous. I’m begging March to put us out of our misery either way.

I wouldn't get to bent out of shape over that story. The third paragraph says it all. Two games are being made for Q1 2025. It specifically says it does not confirm a launch then.

There's been basically nothing positive that has happened between late 2020 and now in terms of hardware from a pricing or efficiency perspective (lots of good software stuff) so it's not clear.

I'm not gonna lie, this feels more like Nintendo PsyOp than actual news. Yes games targetting Q1 2025 is fairly significant... but that just means the furthest along timeframe. Games that are targeting the Switch's launch would obviously be far more under-wraps than games that are further out.

Literally the only thing this tells me are "Nintendo Switch 2 has games" and "Q1 2025 is the latest the device will launch".

It also directly contradicts the weird circumstances of the Partner direct and Nate's earlier comments.

I'm not dooming on this one, this is legit worthless information imo.

Why would Nintendo have a year between announcement and release? That seems like the worst of both worlds to me, because you are still stuck with the Switch's limitations for another year and many people who still haven't bought a Switch will probably just wait if they know the successor is on the horizon. This just seems like a recipe for annoying hardcore fans and missing out on potential hardware sales.

If they are actually waiting until March 2025, it makes the most sense to me to just wait until October for the reveal.

Does it make sense to present (in March) a console that will be released in a year?
Furthermore, shouldn't the February Direct serve to announce the Nintendo titles coming out until at least mid-year? Some things don't add up, but I don't know what to think...

Not that a release in early 2025 will cause me any problems, I have an infinite backlog on Switch. 🫥

Several Nintendo Switch launch window games targeted post-March 2017.

Which makes sense, having a crowded launch day/month lineup could minimize potential sales if there's a hot, hot game on launch day.

It is entirely possible that just as Nintendo withheld information about the Switch 1 from developers, they are doing the same now. Communicating release day targets, but not a device launch.

"Nintendo PsyOp" is crazyyyy hahahaha.

agreed, though.

Get out of ahead of GDC leaks and talking and get consumers and developers ready for release.

Basically every console has had its launch window announced between 9-18 months away from release.

Necro now says 2025, Andy says maybe, nate said maybe yesterday. We're now hearing that private circles are saying 2025. What else has been methodically designed to break my heart for today?

Cope? Nah, I unironically think this is the case.
When IWMTB19 pointed out last year that the lack of new hardware announcement in May 2023 investor's meeting meant 2023 release was not happening there were a lot of people (including yourself) who were insisting that somehow it would still be possible for a 2023 release. When it became clear that wasn't happening those same people were clinging to a 2023 announcement and H1 2024 release even though it made no sense for nintendo to undermine holiday sales of the Switch.

Now we are getting multiple reporters saying that the thing isn't going to be ready until 2025 and the same people who insisted it's coming out in 2023 are doing the exact same copium.
Are we really losing it over the unconfirmed report that an internal delay for a game we do not know exists may have happened?
If these reporters are hearing about games being delayed they likely are also hearing WHY those game are being delayed and the implication is that the games are being delayed due to hardware not being ready yet.

This delay might be the biggest insult by a major gaming company in the past decade. I literally screamed "FUCK YOU" at my screen. I knew they said the Switch was their main focus for this year but the hype they created made me think they were just going to surprise us with the Switch 2 anyway. Absolutely unacceptable to do this to us. Once they knew the Switch 2 was expected this year, they should've announced it anyway.

Agreed. I also want to mention how "ramping" the Switch third-party support was. There was a fair bit of support in the first few months, but it only really took until October before things starting going ablaze with a lot of titles. It was mainly smaller indies and Nintendo published third-parties that really took up the first few months of the Switch's life. There was also "easy to port" titles like Skylanders and Just Dance.

agreed, though.
I genuinely couldn't think of a better term. I have so many issues with this report. Maybe I'm going crazy and other reporters are right, but y'know what I'm fine with that. Fuck [legitimate sources for leakers], Imma start believing in myself.

Name a specific example.

It could very well be inaccurate, confused information. Insider stuff is a game of telephone and it's inaccurate all the time. Using Nate's mid 2023 release date as an example again. That's the nature of insider info.

Or it could be accurate and the release date is indeed 2025.

Using Occams Razor, it's one of these two.

Get out of ahead of GDC leaks and talking and get consumers and developers ready for release.

Consumers don't need to be ready for a Switch 2 release a year ahead of time.

This is unbelievably bad for "Mario finally wins a GotY in 2024!" plan, I have to say.

The path was clear for the next 3D Mario to win GotY. Its biggest competition was like... Penny's Big Breakaway and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth? It was going to win!

Now, it probably has to compete against GTA6 and this is a whole lot harder now.

Last post before I leave for the weekend. I'll be back Monday afternoon California time.

It all means nothing. Nothing until Nintendo says it means something. I expect launch games to be 2-3 Nintendo exclusives, a slew of updates for existing games that unlock frame rate to 60 or resolution to native 720/1080p, and a handful of late ports that couldn't happen before. Games being worked on for 2025 mean nothing, except that those games aren't coming out until 2025 and if they're true, that the Switch 2 will at latest release on the same day as those games. I doesn't mean that the Switch 2 won't release earlier than those games.

This thread is way too fucking excitable.
