I've never played Ocarina of Time
I knew that love being Team January and Team February was doomed to fail.man I'm like 5 years old
This is why I hope we see Diddy Kong Racing on N64 NSO. There's a new generation of young Nintendo fans who have never played it. It would be interesting to hear their thoughts on the game.
Unlike other Rare games, DKR wasn't part of Rare Replay. Even the lackluster Nintendo DS port is old... roughly 14-years-old.
According to Wikipedia, Diddy Kong Racing was the 8th best selling N64 game.
Donkey Kong 64 and Diddy Kong Racing being ~5 million sellers (or thereabouts) really highlights how strong the series was after Donkey Kong Country (which I think did 9 million?). Four titles selling around 5 million in a 5 to 6 year period (DKC, DKC 2, DKR, DK64). Donkey Kong wouldn't get back to those heights until DKC Returns on Wii, which did over 6 million copies.Said port never even came out in Japan. Meaning it's been unavailable to Japanese audiences since 2007!
It was.
Nintendo software and hardware sales data from 1983 to present
I'm going to keep this thread updated with new, more up to date info whenever is possible. UPDATED WITH DATA UNTIL DECEMBER 2023 ē¬åµ What does the following data represent? The data here presented is either financial data or shipment data provided by Nintendo itself directly from Nintendo's...www.installbaseforum.com
where do I snag it for under $100 CAD, I really want to join the hype wave of a decade pastwait, Pikmin 3 isn't the best Nintendo game
I forgot about Wii Sports Resort. that's the peak
It's pretty well established by now that Nintendo barely had and still barely has any idea on what to do with DK after Rare's departure lol
It really goes to show how, in addition to maintaining good sales, it's also really important to have a consistent developer and home for a franchise. It just feels like DK's reign came to an end after Rare could no longer make games for it. It had a short jolt of life under Retro's wing but even they've moved on for the time being.

It really is a franchise which would benefit from timely investment and a timely release while Nintendo have a big, enthusiastic audience...

This is me right now:I've never played Ocarina of Time
This is why I shake my head whenever someone downplays Rare's importance to Nintendo.
Rare's successfully re-invented Donkey Kong for a modern audience. I consider that to be one of the most important events in Nintendo's history.
25 years later, Rare forever changed how people look at the Donkey Kong IP. (For better or worse)
We need a Sega Soccer Slam portStill waiting for a good soccer game on the Switch, since FIFA is an abject disaster.
Japan also is getting Custom Robo V1/2 but I expect those will probably double up. Put me in the Kirby next month category, lining up his first 2.5D adventure before his first 3D one makes too much senseYeah I'm curious about that too.
Here's the remaining list of confirmed post-launch games for N64 NSO. I'm wondering if Nintendo will release Kirby 64 before or after "The Forgotten Land".
So we do have a vague idea of what's coming to N64 NSO soon.
- Mario Golf
- Pokemon Snap
- The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
- F-Zero X
- Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
You should maybe think about fixing that greivous greivous error.I've never played Ocarina of Time
I know Rare was already making divisive games by then, but imagine the GameCube era with more Rare games ... would have been interesting to see.Rare was probably the biggest reason the N64 didn't have GCN or even Wii U level of sales
Looking back at Celine's N64 sales list on the last page, four of the N64's Top 10 best selling games (Goldeneye, DK64, Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo-Kazooie) all came from Rare. Nintendo would of been totally boned that gen if they didn't have Rare as the backbone of the N64's first party lineup.
You absolutely can get True Pacifist with your first playthrough. I got it. The wording people use is weird and makes it seem like you need to do it on a second playthrough. If you do all of the True Pacifist requirements on your first playthrough, then you simply have to reload your save after beating the game and backtrack to where the True Pacifist stuff triggers.
But that involves first beating the final boss, which I am completely unable to do lolI think you can just start back up right before the ending and then go back to compete some of the stuff to get pacifist. Not remembering all the details, but I donāt remember having to do an entire new play though.

It will be interesting to see if it is true EPD have taken Donkey Kong back and built a team up for a new game. Donkey Kong was Nintendo's foundation in the game business; Rare reinvented it and Nintendo may yet bring him back in a way which (pun intended) apes Rare's work with the series. This is why I shake my head whenever someone downplays Rare's importance to Nintendo.

Maybe Iām a bit dinosaur but I also have played all NSO N64 games except for WinBack.

DK64 is a lot more like Banjo Kazooie than it is like Mario 64, and I also don't think DKC is that much like 2D Mario. Like sure they're all platformers, but other than that I don't think there's that many similaritiesDonkey Kong overlaps a lot with Mario which is probably why we don't see many DK games. Structurally, the 2D DK games are most similar to the 2D Mario games. DK 64 is based off Mario 64's template. Diddy Kong Racing is Mario Kart 64. It's one thing if you have a dedicated studio like Rare or Retro working on the series parallel with Mario but it is harder to convince the Mario team to stop working on Mario to make a new DK game. Mario is the bigger name and since the DK series isn't too dissimilar to the Mario games, it makes sense to just keep making Mario games.

I don't know if this is quite true. Of course DK and Mario will overlap, but how do we explain Yoshi? 2D to 2.5 D games with less than 50% selling power of what DK has. Woke up with a god awful sinus headache /migraine and dealing with it all day. It feels like I'm being punched repeatedly
I wanted to have a relaxing day with the snow and play skyward sword in my bed. Good God this pain is awful
I hope so. I really want a new DK. In the SNES era, the series was my favorite Nintendo IP.Be great if EPDonkey Kong gets announced next month to shut us all up.
Rest and save the world, compadre.Woke up with a god awful sinus headache /migraine and dealing with it all day. It feels like I'm being punched repeatedly

Huh. I didn't realize so many people here haven't played Banjo-Kazooie. It makes sense considering how long ago it released.
Anyways, it's cool that some of you will play it for the first time on NSO.
I need to order a laptopHey my new laptop came! Now I can shitpost with a keyboard as god intended.
Yeah my old one was 7 years old when it borked. That's like 250 in people years. It still worked incredibly well though, that video in the OP only took like 20 minutes to render.I need to order a laptop

Question. How does one post pictures from a phone here? Since I've been in bed with that awful sinus headache, my new cat we got back in October joined me in my bed and keeping me company while I restHey my new laptop came! Now I can shitpost with a keyboard as god intended.
I usually either upload them to discord or twitter or imgur first then link that here.Question. How does one post pictures from a phone here? Since I've been in bed with that awful sinus headache, my new cat we got back in October joined me in my bed and keeping me company while I rest
The game makes it abundantly clear early on that combat isn't the way to go (it feels really unsatisfying mechanically). Outside of bosses the combat system isn't that punishing, especially with a controller, and I say that as someone who generally doesn't like bullet hell games. I wouldn't skip out on it just because you're afraid of doing it wrong. I know the online culture around the game is pretty toxic at times, but the game gives you two different ways to play. It really wants you to go pacifist (or as much as you can) but it also allows you to eschew that and try to play like a typical JRPG.Undertale intimidates me because it feels like the proper way to play it is as a pacifist, but it seems that playing that was is difficult. Iāve never started it because I feel like Iāll screw up and then Iām playing the game āwrongā.
Thanks for the reply . Ill have to remember that for future raffles. I am just not in a good state to fool around with that todayNow that I have my laptop does anyone know of any good free video editing programs? Like the ones that let me edit explosions and lava into videos of my kids playing? That kinda thing?
