But did Grubb say that exactly?Grubb and Quarterdann doing this whole "our sources say they're gonna delay the Direct" kinda feels like they're using the Queen's death as a way to get some eyes on themselves. Seems kinda gross.
God I wish
Oh really? Well then I'm going to be quite upset, as that's the day season 51 of The Price Is Right is scheduled to begin, and you just know American networks will jump all over themselves to cover the funeral.Seem’s like the Queen’s funeral is on monday the 19th. 10 days from now. Doesn’t make sense to hold back the Direct as the two things won’t coincide.

I was paraphrasing. But he was openly speculating about the Direct delay on twitter and in twitch. I mean, his twitter feed is full of shitposts about her anyway. Regardless, it got people worried here about the Direct getting delayed until they saw Nate's tweets. But did Grubb say that exactly?
Edit: On his twitter he didn't say that. He said he hasn't been told anything but he's going to assume plans will change simply cause Nintendo is weird. Soooooooo
I wish norm macdonald was still around to say inflammatory things about the queen on national television
AlwaysIs there hope?
Which post?Trying desperately to think of a way to make the post in the Splatoon 3 review thread from last night into a copypasta for the Queen of England and Direct delay but I haven’t invested enough skill points into shitposting
And with the Japanese Nintendo offices closed overnight, who from NOA had to step in and decide whether to delay the Direct?I wish norm macdonald was still around to say inflammatory things about the queen on national television
blah blah blah Nintendo Directs blah blah blah The Queen of England blah blah blah
While I don’t think either thing should exist this clearly adresses the elephant in the room
I know there’s a lot of Direct fans here, but why act like another entry in the same year is welcome. Why accept Nintendo’s half measures in terms of announcing games in a video. This is pretty much the worst of both worlds, paying full price for directs that get a few trailers to then move to the next full priced direct. The directs would be so much more well received if it actually embraced the twitter model and was just a f2p constantly evolving tweet thread. You would be paying for NSO and maybe you could sell the single game announcements as standalone trailers as well, this has much more potential than simply releasing the directs at full price
This is especially ironic considering that the announcement of the very first direct was met with memes mocking England players, but now it basically fell in the same trap besides that it’s not yearly. Other than that, you know why Direct’s reputation isn’t the greatest outside of its fanbase, even among Nintendo fans? Well on top of the soundtrack being annoying and the character designs being extremely punchable besides the middle aged Japanese man with the lovely haircut, the problem is that the directs freaking killed the Queen of England. Yes, the British monarchy using the same model as Directs basically ruined them, every other monarchy now launches with very few content, gets some free updates down the line and then the queen dies. Directs brought a culture of mediocrity while being shielded from criticism purely by the goodwill of it having a unique concept back when it was announced in 2012
Sure, this last sentence is hyperbolic and none of this matters when the directs keep selling well and people like it enough to consider it worth full price regardless but clearly Nintendo isn’t properly using the strengths of the twitter model. The more they do that the more Queens, Elizabeth especially, will just no longer be considered by some of their fans
I'd just do what I did with sports for the most part ever since it went pretty much exclusively pay per view: read a summary/news report, because fuck that shit.idea: how much would you guys pay per view of a direct?
I can't imagine spending more than five dollars
Pay? To watch commercials?idea: how much would you guys pay per view of a direct?

Kinda hard to think of a set price I'd be willing to pay without knowing the contents of the Direct lol.idea: how much would you guys pay per view of a direct?

Okay that's something I might consider.I'll pay to watch a Direct if they discount that much from any games showcased within that I may buy.
Unless I get a 25-50% price cut on anything I purchase on their release date or any certain day, nothing.idea: how much would you guys pay per view of a direct?

Isn’t this basically D23, Star Wars Celebration, Comic-Con, PAX, Gamescom, TGS though?I would not pay to watch an advertisement for more things I'll have to pay for
It's a facile statement. Technically true in the most obvious sense but (willfully) ignorant of people's relationships to media, especially interactive media, and what it's like to anticipate that media.okay, spending money on a direct seems ridiculous but the "directs are just advertisement" people befuddle me
why are you here???
I can't imagine spending more than zero dollars.idea: how much would you guys pay per view of a direct?

There's an experience attached to those though. More than just a 40 minute video on your computer.Isn’t this basically D23, Star Wars Celebration, Comic-Con, PAX, Gamescom, TGS though?
Well let's not paraphrase. This place, like the internet as a whole, overreacts all of the time.I was paraphrasing. But he was openly speculating about the Direct delay on twitter and in twitch. I mean, his twitter feed is full of shitposts about her anyway. Regardless, it got people worried here about the Direct getting delayed until they saw Nate's tweets.
Yeah i’m sure Nintendo’s suits in Japan all got up in the middle of the night and on the spot decided to delay the direct; before falling right back asleep.
What a totally logical rumor.
I wouldn’t pay anything.idea: how much would you guys pay per view of a direct?

Wouldn’t pay for it unless it came with my NSO sub.idea: how much would you guys pay per view of a direct?

The community.okay, spending money on a direct seems ridiculous but the "directs are just advertisement" people befuddle me

See my above answer, actually. I would 100% pay to be present at an event with other fans, the creators, etc. To feel part of the community, the experience. Honestly I'm super jealous when I see the Nintendo Store NYC videos of crowds watching the Directs together because I'd love to do that if they had a similar presence in California.Isn’t this basically D23, Star Wars Celebration, Comic-Con, PAX, Gamescom, TGS though?

I think you'd be onto to something if it was pay to watch it early lol.idea: how much would you guys pay per view of a direct?

Given some of what I've seen at PAX, I'm pretty sure the "experience" some people have is waiting 3+ hours in line to watch a 20 minute presentationThere's an experience attached to those though. More than just a 40 minute video on your computer.
Yea, I'm pretty sure I agree with that sentiment. But I wouldn't pay to watch them on youtube in my living room.
I would spend more than I’m willing to admit to make a direct happen, but it would come with the stipulation that I get trailers from their AAA studios like retros, epd tokyo, and the Zelda team.idea: how much would you guys pay per view of a direct?
I can't imagine spending more than five dollars
It's not cynical to say a Direct is advertising; it's just -- at best -- obvious and uninteresting. While I agree that calling it “just an advertisement” lacks the nuance surrounding the culture around directs and how people will eventually engage with the games (products) being advertised, I still think it’s important to recognize in the end it is just an advertisement even if that advertisement is fun.
Like I personally love all the speculation leading up to directs, the following discussion, I love discussion surrounding video games and how fandom grows from that, etc. But like I think you can participate in all that and appreciate all that while still knowing these “events” are just ways for Nintendo to get us excited about products that are a part of our favorite hobby and to convince us to buy them. Maybe that’s too cynical but after growing up in a world full of constant advertisement where companies constantly find new sneaky ways to push their product (quirky relatable corporate twitters).
Now if we’re talking about old directs where they spend 10 minutes on interviews with the Yoshi Woolly World Developers, it’s still an advertisement but it does more in trying to convince me it’s not ;p
