I can't imagine Nintendo doing an special event just for a new member of the Switch family. Those are for new gen consoles, so I think next week is just a Twitter drop for a new Switch or new first party title.
Mini and General Directs are also discarded since we didn't hear anything from insiders.

I don't know, but I think it will be a trailer of something, just like SplOLED.

Hypotethically speaking, do you expect a new brand for an exclusively first part Direct?
Yes, because as I said the last First Party showcase also did have a different name (Spotlight), and I think if they do announce new hardware (which is kinda the point of this event right? If not they could’ve just made a general direct without a partner showcase before) I think they‘ll want a different branding. They don’t announce major new hardware at a Direct, it was always some weeks later. I think they do this to keep the Direct brand very software-focused so that people don’t expect anything other than games. So yes, I‘d expect a new branding IF this first party showcase happens.

to be fair, having „too many games to show“ was never a problem, Nintendo doesn’t really do these bloated years or events with game after game after game. They space things out.
H2 2019 was bloated when it came to Nintendo published titles, sometimes they cant avoid it and release a lot of titles one close to each other.

yeah but they still just did their obligatory February and June Directs. What he meant is that they have SO much to show that they needed to separate it from the partner showcase and that’s the only reason for this ominous first party show. That’s what I doubt

But do we think that's likely? Live A Live, Xenoblade 3, Splatoon 3, Mario + Rabbids, Pokemon...there's not really that much more space left this year. Certainly not enough to fill your average 30-40 minute direct.

In terms of games, a release date for Bayonetta 3 and this supposed Metroid Prime remaster feel like the only other releases we have a chance of getting this year. Maybe those Wind Waker/Twilight Princess ports too. But again, that's what maybe...5-10 minutes worth of content? That easily could have fit in alongside the third party mini.
Well presumably it wouldn't just be covering games from this year, if "amount of stuff to show" was the reason for moving the first party stuff. A deep dive on BoTW2 and a new FE, along with the stuff you mentioned, might have made the Direct too long

Not sure I really buy that myself, but it is at least a possibility imo

I think that we won't see any direct till September at least.
What I expect from Nintendo is the drop of a trailer of a game that will be out in October (if there is one.) during this month (This could be Bayo or something that hasn't been already announced)
Next month a Splatoon Direct.
Then during the September direct they'll show the December title (if there is one) and will focus on games of 2023, with a long segment about BotW2.

This is what I think.

Oh and obviously they'll do a Fire Emblem direct where they'll announce the new FE and the remake of FE4, right? Right?!

There was e3 in 2019, this time there isnt such event so Nintendo could have just decided to split their e3 event into multiple smaller events.

It's probably not in the best taste to speculate on how a political assassination might affect video game events, especially given the threadmarked staff post. -Donnie, hologram, paranoodle
Hmm... I think now is safe to assume that Nintendo is cancelling whatever event they have planned for next week after the assassination of Shinzo Abe.

To play devil’s advocate: I really don’t see what good it would do for the (gaming) world to stop dead in its tracks because of this. It doesn’t make sense to me

Depends on the impact of the new system. I can imagine them showing a dedicated event for a stronger Switch with exclusive games. That is very much different from having a Lite or OLED which are more or less the same as the OG one.

I don't know what the gaming world should do, we can keep speculating about next events and switch pro, but it's understandable that japanese companies will stop doing some things in the period of national mourning.

I tried to enter the Europe My Nintendo Store and this message appeared:

"My Nintendo Store is currently unavailable due to maintenance that will take several weeks."

Obviously it's not linked to upcoming announcements, but who knows ...
I don‘t think that it is directly related to it. They‘ll just update the store with a new design similarly they did with the american and Japanese store.
But I‘m sure they want the store to be ready if they announce new games next week.

XenobladeJP also didn't post today. If there was any event next week it has almost surely been delayed a week.

If there was something planned for next week and it got moved due to what happened, it's still on the way, don't worry about it.

Kind of weird to worry about something like that when someone (regardless of views) has just been assassinated.

Thank god nothing was announced in advance because I would not want to read these comments like in 2018 when earthquake happened and they delayed the Direct some people were pissed off, like seriously. There are more important events than video games, the announcements will come after. Some people are really such a mess sometimes.

I don't expect anything substantial before september, and I think the "pro" will release next April alongside Zelda.

But I hope I'm wrong 🤞

Join us in team hype, there's enough room, and we're going to do a summer vacation BBQ feast that even Retro Studios will look upon in awe.

The truth is that things in Japan may very well throw off the schedule now, but analyzing things too much seems inappropriate and futile, so rather than add to that vein of speculation... I'm just waiting this one out.

Yeah, it's an entirely inappropriate line of discussion but I don't think it's inaccurate

Just crazy news from Japan this morning. Hope all those affected find comfort.

Do you all think the upcoming Direct will be focused just on the rest of this year, or extend through, say, the end of next year? Or, an even year's length to next summer? I've got different scenarios running in my mind, all trying to fit in a hardware tease, which they'd probably not do anyways, haha, but I still want to dream!
Metroid Prime Remaster
Ooooh, nice! I thought that was announced too right after I posted that, but I guess not! Thank you!
I think the DLSS can be used first for game testing and programming and then implement that in development kits and then in the Nintendo switch successor console itself to be more established and prepared to create perhaps; a more defined console.
Hmm, that actually does bring up a thought. I've seen the jokes around about just flipping a switch, haha, but really, how complicated is DLSS programming? It was in another thread, but someone mentioned a game looking worse in some areas with DLSS (I think fur rendering?) because of anti-aliasing. It also comes up all the time about how moving to HD assets and things really slowed things down for Nintendo for a while. Is this another kind of technology that needs refined and learned about for a period of time like @Allter was just describing here?

If they do decide to show off new hardware alongside MP1 remaster, BOTW2 and such, I feel like that gives Metroid Prime 4 a much bigger chance to show up than when it would be in a normal no hardware first party showcase or just a regular Direct where they announce MP1. Because I thi k MP4 is a 2024 game, and showing it off for the first time with the new hardware could be a sign of: "this Switch family is here to stay, we're in it for the long run."

Absolutely crazy to see that news out of Japan this morning. Just shocking.

Interesting that the assassin used a homemade weapon. If he were American he certainly wouldn’t have had to make his own gun.

There's already branding for it. Nintendo Spotlight.

It really is nuts that attempted assassinations don't happen more often here. Unfortunate to say, but the campaign to pit everyday Americans against each other so that the elites can live freely above them is wildly successful.

Horrible news out of Japan. It wouldn't shock me if none of the Nintendo accounts say anything for a few days...
Non JP accounts will probably keep posting the typical promotional tweets, anything that needs a WW release at the same time though will get delayed which is understable.

No one was thinking anything was gonna happen today. Nintendo never does anything on Mondays or Fridays.
Well, they announed Prime 4 delay on Friday, that was clean, but it was more like you want this kind of info to be there over the weekend. But that's just off story, i haven't expected something today and even not after this tragic event.

that just isn't true though

I still don't get why would they use a different branding for first party showcase. Direct brand sells itself, it's a powerful tool, since this "Spotlight" happened they never used different thing again. And to be honest they used different branding that E3 probably only because often in past years their E3's were not really "Directs", it was in 2013, but 2014 and 2015 were labeled at "Digital Events".

They could absolutely reappropriate that name to mean a Nintendo-only thing. I'm not saying it's been that before, I'm just saying the branding exists.
I see what you're getting at, but "Nintendo Direct" also sounds like it ought to be a Nintendo-only thing
