I think there will be a cross-gen period between Switch and Switch 2 that will last for several years where Switch 1 gets all the less demanding games while Switch 2 gets those games (at a higher framerate and resolution) and more demanding games exclusive to it. It could very well be that Nintendo can release a new 3D Mario for Switch 1 in 2022 and introduce Switch 2 in 2023 (with exclusive Mario Kart). Then, when Nintendo decides to discontinue Switch 1 (thereby making Switch 2 mandatory for new Nintendo releases), a new Mario could be ready to persuade new potential buyers.
