for a brief moment the only post on this page was this:

and the implication made me chuckle

If there is a 3d mario title teased at the switch reveal I’ll pop off and unironically say “let’s goooooo”. Which is a big deal for me
There def will be a 3D mario launch year for the Switch 2. They won't have BoTW so they will need Mario even more. MK9 will probably be launch year as well imo.

We’re going to see 3D Mario + Metroid Prime 4 in the reveal trailer 10000% guaranteed. I’ll bet money on that.

We’ll also see Mario Kart. Other things might be held for the Switch 2 presentation

A brand new 2D Zelda adventure would be amazing.

The Oktober 2016 Switch reveal had

  • Breath of the Wild (known)
  • Skyrim
  • Mario Kart 8
  • NBA 2K
  • Mario (then unknown, later revealed to be Odyssey)
  • Splatoon (later revealed to be a sequel).

If March is more like an initial reveal what are we getting in the Video?

My guess is:

  • Metroid Prime 4
  • Elden Ring/Baldurs Gate 3 (1 or more big core third Party)
  • A big sports game
  • Call of Duty
  • Mario 3D
  • Enhanced Zelda ToTK
  • Monolith ARPG

No for Monolith. That’ll be saved for the presentation like Xenoblade 2 was. Also I don’t believe they’ll show TOTK since that’s old. This is different than the Wii U since no one knew it existed lol.

Week 7 - What do you most want to see from this Nintendo Direct both realistic and otherwise and why? Also, what games will shadowdrop if any?
I want to see a Partner or Mini, since it's been insinuated that will mean a sooner reveal of the next system in March. But who knows if we could have an awesome general direct filled with all the games we want and still have the same sort of timeframe for the reveal. Time will tell.

I am curious about Nintendo's strategy going into the year with so few games announced or with missing release dates, which makes me lean towards a Mini. Also because my hope from any direct is news about Metroid Prime 4 or 2 Remastered, which don't feel like Twitter announcements to me. If it is a Mini they could shadowdrop some sweet NSO games like Smash 64 and that would make me happy.

Unrealistically, I would love Gamecube NSO, more Mario Party maps or a new game, a new Golden Sun, Ocarina of Time remake, new 2D Zelda, a new crazy 3D Mario in the vein of Wonder and Odyssey combined. And for a transparent timeframe for the next system being shown and what games to expect (now I'm delusional 😅)

3D Mario is the only thing I’m betting on alongside a Switch 2 reveal. I’m at the point now with Prime 4 I truly need to see it to believe it. Maybe those fabled WW / TP HD ports are being saved as a launch thing too.

Nintendo March 1st at exactly 12 AM: Hi
this is the only thing they post the entire month until exactly 11:59 PM March 31st when they shadowdrop the Superb Switch at 5 dollars and 13 cents

I honestly just think it's gonna be weird to see Metroid Prime 4 for the very first time as a 5s off scream footage on the Switch 2 reveal trailer. I mean the game has been announced for almost 7 years now...

I just wish the thing in March is a trailer followed by a Direct or hell even a Treehouse Live afterwards that shows a proper trailer for Metroid Prime 4. But preferably, a Direct that also shows trailers for Mario Kart and 3D Mario, please.

Or rather just do a damn general Direct and have at least >>>one<<< game that's already officially revealed(like BotW on the Switch) for the damn trailer 😭😭😭.

My dream 3d mario game is an open world. The bowsers fury concept taken to the next level, with tons of levels and obstacles built right in to the world. But, I’d also be happy with a 3d land/ 3d world successor at some point too. Thats some of the most fun multiplayer gaming I’ve ever had even ten years later

What ever it is, I hope we get another bomb ass trailer like this

ooh they really should just do a week of Treehouse live featuring the Switch 2 after the reveal

it's be like a mini-E3 just all about the new Switch. People would eat that up

I’m just trying to will the Monolith ARPG into existence at this point.

Me too. I think the only reason we haven't seen a 3D Mario before is because the next game develops the idea of Bowser's Fury and on switch it cannot be run without having performance problems.

I'd say Mario Kart in the launch year is a very likely one, just to make sure you have probably the biggest system seller out early.

I have a feeling it’s going to be:
  • Metroid Prime 4
  • 3D Mario
  • Tears/ Breath 4K 60 FPS remasters
  • Elden Ring
  • Either FF7 Remake or Persona 3 Reload
  • A first party multiplayer series (thinking Mario Kart but a new franchise is definitely possible)

3d mario is all I need as well. I have put 160 hours into odyssey since it came out in 2017. I’ve gotten every single moon, beaten it multiple times. Some times one good launch game is all you need. I hope there is something good for multiplayer around launch as well! Snipper
Clips and arms were great multiplayer launch/launch window titles. Me and
My girlfriend especially enjoyed arms

I wonder how this trailer will start off. We had the guy on the couch playing BotW. Then he got up connected his joy cons and took his Switch on the go?!!!?
it’ll start with a guy playing TOTK and saying “yo this shit looks good as fuck in 4K” and that’s it. That’s the whole trailer.

  • Elden Ring
  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade
  • Fortnite
  • Animal Crossing 6
This covers everything. Hardcore first party title, Mario, Pokemon, big third party showcase game, JRPG, mainstream multiplayer title, first party multiplayer title.

I'm not sure if I'm off base with this and, maybe it's because I do feel like recently we have had more debates before Directs are announced on if they'll do a General, Mini, Partner Showcase, or something else, but I don't really know if receiving a Partner Showcase indicates an earlier Next-Generation Console reveal in the same way where I don't feel like a General Direct would communicate a later than we expect console reveal? I do feel like a General and press release/First Look video could happen within a month of each other because I don't think whatever Nintendo would show off first party wise in a General would be large enough to overshadow anything related to the next console? I do feel like they both a General Direct and reveal of a console do stand alone and, especially if they are weeks between the two, wouldn't take away from each other?

I do see and understand the point related to backwards compatibility but I also feel like this could be communicated early on in the marketing for the console's marketing cycle that it doesn't become an issue to have games announced that are branded "Switch 1" games. I feel like if that was the issue, then we wouldn't have games slated to release following this month as they would all likely coincide with the console being announced? In the same way, I feel like once the marketing for the next console begins, these already announced games do get more subdued marketing, likely with their release dates and smaller trailers. I do wonder, if we aren't getting a General Direct, when Nintendo does plan to announce the dates for Luigi's Mansion 2 and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. I could see them doing one (more than likely LM2HD since that already has a season) in the week that will now be between the Partner Showcase and Pokémon Day but, outside of that, I'm not sure when the other one gets released timing, especially if it is Paper Mario that we don't even know a season for yet.

I think I asked this earlier on in the thread but how long do we think Nintendo will continue to support the Switch after the next console releases? If I remember right, the DS and 3DS were just under eight years with first party support and I feel like around the time this next console releases, we'll also be approaching that with the Nintendo Switch (with the console's Holiday 2024 date probably). I am sure they will support it for a little while more (maybe until the fiscal year needs in March or 2025) but the only reason I could see them not wanting to highlight new and announced first party products is if there just isn't a lot more for the Nintendo Switch outside of Pokémon (which likely is at the end of this month, very excited!!!) and they want to space out those reveals to have throughout the year so that those that might not be able to get the console when it releases or may wait a little while before they do still have things to look forward to until next year.

I will just have a slight counterpoint to myself here but, as last year's February 2023 Direct showed, they don't NEED to talk about anything that is slated to release after July until June so it's totally okay to skip a General in favor of a Partner Showcase. However, I will also say that there also isn't really an anchor in the Switch's lineup right now like there was with ToTK and I feel like once Metroid Prime 4 is revealed as cross-generation that almost immediately becomes an anchor point for the next console over the Switch. We likely will get this anchor at the end of the month on Pokémon Day though so, again, they don't need to really say much for the Switch I assume.

I apologize if this came off as a word scramble. I've been trying to get my thoughts straight since the rumor from yesterday began because I do hope it's a General because, even if it ends up being a smaller General, one of my favorite parts of the Direct timeline is seeing everyone speculate and talk that I don't feel like Partner Showcase's really allow us all do to, which, at least to me, will be a huge loss to start the year (though, depending on the form factor of the next console's reveal, if it is a First Look, I presume there will still be some speculation we all can do between the possible "Tune in at 9 AM EST on so and so date to see the future of Nintendo!" post and the First Look being uploaded!!). However, just on a personal note, General Directs do bring me joy and the ability to change my mood instantly to a much more positive outlook so I am a little biased in this discussion of wanting a General Direct haha! :)
Totally agree.

No matter how it ends up happening, there are enough reasons to see a General instead of a Partners. In the March event I don't see them focusing so much on Software and if one of the games already announced (TTYD or LM2 for example) is for April or May it would be much easier if they announced it in a Direct (Mini or General) in instead of doing it on Twitter/X in the coming weeks.

About the support for the Switch after the launch of the next console, I think they have timed it very well to have only a few launches on both systems. Two that come to mind are the new Camelot game and the new Koei Warriors which could be close to a release due they may have started development on Switch1. I could still be wrong and they are totally exclusive to Switch2 but I see it as unlikely.

Imagine if the big third party game in the Switch 2 teaser is Starfield

I think the guy might have the Switch 2 and walking around with it already. You see him playing TOTK or 3D Mario. Then he comes home, docks it and the whole dock and team starting glowing with the tv saying “DLSS Mode Activated”. That was a joke.

But it’s like the reverse of the Switch trailer and something happens when you dock it.

Good question. If Switch 2 is an iterative device with no unique catch or gimmick, the trailer could very well be a straight-forward presentation that shows nice shots and closeups of the console, new and improved Joy-cons, a game montage and perhaps players navigating through the system, eShop, etc…
