Interesting how Nate don’t know anything and Pyoro hasn’t said a word………
Pyoro really doesn't say anything until less than a week before the Direct.

In June for instance, he started leaking only two days before the Direct aired, whereas in September he started leaking six days beforehand.

If Pyoro hasn't said anything by February 6th, either there's no Direct on the 7th, or the Nintendo ninjas got him.

It's interesting to me how full the first ~4 months of 2024 are for game releases but we know next to nothing about anything after April, even now after the Playstation State of Play. Obviously there are a lot of games that have vague '2024' dates that will fill in the summer months and the holidays, but I guess we still need to wait longer for the calendar to be a bit more set.

Even Sony is waiting on the Switch 2 to be revealed before they can announce late 2024 titles.

I was kind of hoping the State of Play would give more insight into the Direct. I think all we have is that expected indie game announcement tweet from a few days ago that hasn’t happened yet on top of our general predictions / analysis (which we have a good chance of being right on). The lack of smoke is disturbing, though it could change rapidly at any moment.

I think it's starting to become the industry standard to hold off on announcing release dates far out in advance. Sony in particular is leaning into this, they've got three big XDev projects coming out over the next three months and none of them really got much of anything until a few months away from launch. Dragon's Dogma 2 and Hellblade 2 also didn't get a date until a few months out.

Think there's a pretty good chance we get some cool 3rd party announcements and/or dates at the upcoming direct that will fill out the schedule a bit.

I was really hoping State of Play would change the situation there too, but all we got was Stellar Blade in April which didn’t help there. (Did make April way cooler though)

I think Nintendo will address what May and beyond looks like with their show as they’ve done just that for the past couple of years so it shouldn’t be too much longer.

You're probably right, and that makes sense for games coming out in the second half of 2024 - I guess I was just expecting at least a few things to be dated for the May/June timeframe since that seems wide open. But I bet that will fill out more in the Direct.

What do you all think about Super Mario 3D Land? I don't know why I feel like it'll be re-released or ported to the Switch but for some reason, I'm realllllly feeling like this upcoming Direct is going to reveal it's being released on the Switch HAHA

Did Nate delay the podcast again? Last I heard he said it'd still drop in January. Not too many places left where it's still January...
I thought he said this week? So assuming he doesn't drop podcasts on weekends, it could still be anytime before January 34th

Are you all excited for the Direct next Wednesday where they announce the Zelda HD remasters which will release on March 8 with those three Zelda Amiibo (including Wolf Link) and the Zelda orchestra that's planned for next Friday to further celebrate the Zelda franchise? Gonna be tight!

I'm obviously kidding lol.

Please please be a RPG like MMBN and MMSF either franchise or a new one please.
Peeps I've been talking to wonder whether this new figure might be heralding something for Rockman Taisen (personally I'm not up to scratch with X related media but having a design that's not derived from anything before certainly makes one wonder...)

Interesting thing I just noticed. I was checking to see if Sonic Generations had an e-shop page (it didn't) and Paper Mario is now listed before Luigi's Mansion on the coming soon page. Might be nothing, but the game was rated a while ago. Looks like it's a Spring release.

Ever since Side Order slid into February, I’ve been penciling in Paper Mario for April even though the 2024 date thing in the last Direct will look extra goofy. May I think is Fire Emblem. Luigi’s Mansion is June or July.

Weekly Questions Week 6
Here we are at the start of Week 6 of Nintendo Direct Speculation! Is this our last week of the thread as a majority have been guessing? It makes so much sense and yet the smoke has been minimal so far. It could be the quiet before the Direct storm or we could be waiting a little longer. We’ll see! If we do start getting Pyoro leaks in particular in the next few days, I do want to remind everyone the plan is for this thread to become the spoiler thread and it will run until the end of the Direct airing. Please keep all Direct spoilers in this thread to keep the nonspoiler crowd safe. If this is the last week and it drops on the 7th in particular, we won’t be getting the last planned weekly question, so just in case I do want to thank everyone who has been answering these! Y’all have really made the thread lively and opened up more excellent discussion :) Let’s roll into our next question now!

Week 6 - What new content do you expect to see and what would you like to see from Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door? Are there any other upcoming remaster / remakes you hope will get some brand new content?

For my own answer, there’s so much potential here! I’m most expecting some kind of new epilogue adventure though who it will star and how long it will be exactly I’m not so sure. I think I’d most love to see another small adventure with Mario reuniting with his friends, so I’m going to hope for that most. A few new Super Bosses like Mario RPG would be very cool to have as well. Also, we need more Flavio. That’s important!

As for the other part of the question, I’m really looking forward to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth which sort of straddles the line between new game and remake. In the original game there’s a sequence where Cloud rides a dolphin a hundred feet in the air to continue his journey. That scene needs to be there and we also need a full new minigame revolving around the party riding dolphins for more goofy fun.

What they will do: Nothing.

What should happen: Luigi's stories about his adventures give short playable segments.

Which cutscene? New toads hardly translates to new content imo
I believe it was the weird unfolding staircase scene, at least from what I can remember people saying. I've never played the game myself (can't wait to try it on Switch!), but if they're willing to add new characters it stands to reason that we'll get more content in general.

Here’s one:

New NPCs means more dialogue (and Goombella dialogue) if nothing else. There could be quests tied to these characters. We also have stuff like character back sprites as seen in my image in the OP. They are definitely playing around with this game, the big question is how much.

Week 6 - What new content do you expect to see and what would you like to see from Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door?
Probably a bit of a cheater answer but since I've never played TTYD I'm honestly just thrilled to see the game. Though I've seen it mentioned a few times before (even literally just a few posts above, sup @carbvan) that Luigi has some adventures that are simply mentioned and not playable, and I'd totally be down for some added Luigi content.
Are there any other upcoming remaster / remakes you hope will get some brand new content?
Upcoming remaster I'd love to see: Chrono Trigger
Brand-new content I'd love to see for said remaster: a sequel

holy cow yes

One thing I appreciate about the pieces I've seen of VII-R is that they maintained some of the goofball vibe even with the much less cartoony graphic style. I hope they keep some of that up in VII-R2 and Cloud riding a flying dolphin would be hilarious to see in realistic™ graphics

Holy shit, this insider just posted some info you might want to see…

yes I will continue making leak shitposts until the end of time

Ooh! I’m looking forward to hearing your impressions when you do play the game. Not to hype it up too much, but the TTYD is my favorite of the Paper Marios. Even if it is just the stuff in the base game which personally I think it should stay as is for the joke, the Luigi content is incredible.

Very down for your remaster pick and major want :) Actually the same as me in that I’d want a sequel inside of a rerelease of Chrono Trigger. Also yeah, if you haven’t played Remake yet, they do an awesome job respecting the original and maintaining what made the original special down to some of the most lovably weird stuff like Hell House.

I honestly just hope playable Luigi segments will be a thing tbh, which I doubt will happen. However, something I hope will happen is them making use of the TTYDR engine for a sub-series of sorts where it's based around Paper Luigi (very, very wishful thinking, lmao).

As for European viewers (I'm Dutch), I really hope the Direct is somewhere in the evening (11PM/12AM), since that'll be the best time for me and my work schedule, otherwise I'd still be at work when it going live at around 4PM. + A Direct in the late evening feels more like a Nintendo specialized Christmas Eve.❤️

Last thing he leaked were NSO for GBA, which was not too long ago. I don't he got ninja'd, but just laying low for the time being. But as you said, until less than a week from now on, So I expect him to say something from Friday onward?

I'm not sure if this is a question for here or another thread so I apologize in advance but I've been thinking about this question in relation to the possibility of the upcoming Nintendo Direct.

With the next Nintendo Direct possiblity revealing a lot of what we can expect for the Nintendo Switch for the year, I was wondering how far into the next console's generation that you all think the Nintendo Switch will get first-party support? I know there's been a lot of speculation related to how long the Switch would receive first-party support from Nintendo and, so, it's been something I've been thinking about in relation to what I think we'll see in this Nintendo Direct as well. I'm not very familiar with how long into each generation Nintendo keeps first party support for their consoles, but I feel like the range is usually around eight years (possibly outside of the GameBoy, GameBoy Color, and GameBoy Advance generations)?

The only generations I can remember off the top of my head are the DS and 3DS ones where I feel like they both were also around eight years with first-party support? I know a lot of people have talked about there being some time where Nintendo releases games for both the Nintendo Switch and their next generation console, with Metroid Prime 4 probably being the most commonly talked about example as a cross-generation game, and I also feel like their backwards compatibility plans also probably have a hand in whatever they decide. I just know the Nintendo Switch will be eight years old in March of 2025 so it's made me think a lot more about how long I personally think it would receive support after the next console releases.

I'm sorry for the really long post here and I apologize deeply once again if this isn't the proper thread to ask this question on. I am really interested into seeing what you all do have to say and/or the insight you all could provide as I don't feel like I also know a lot on this topic in general outside of more recent generations. For me, I'm really excited for the upcoming Nintendo Direct and it's been really great reading through this thread and seeing all your thoughts, hopes, and predictions as we (hopefully) come up to it very soon!! :)
