Nate has already said earlier he's not addressing RAM in this video, but that 8GB does not apply from what he's heard
If you want to do very long recordings. 1m 60fps recordings won't require that much ramRAM is especially necessary for the bigger/more ambitious games but also OS features like video recording right?
Why not both? 8 GB for games and 16 GB for the OS.For our all sanity, let's meet in the middle.
There's a couple hours yet.Refreshing Nate’s YouTube page like my life depends on it
You meanWhen it's Joever.
Ba-dummmmm Tsssssssss
Mediatek isn’t using Nvidia GPU in their SoC, they are using a dGPUNot if it's Mediatek developing the chip using Nvidia's IP.
Mediatek has always been using ARM CPUs and ARM Mali or PowerVR GPUs, but recently they partnered with Nvidia to enter the infotainment market.
I don't think they would sign a deal without extensive R&D before-hand.
Some of their chips are already on TSMC's 4nm.
They're actually well ahead of Nvidia when it comes to mobile SoCs.
Nintendo "could have" cancelled t239 when they heard Mediatek had a better chip close to finalization.
I think Mediatek would be very happy to share some of those R&D costs and bring-in a new client.
It's all speculation of course and t239 is probably our guy, but those 5% of doubt keep nagging me.
imagine smash bros on switch 2 really looking like their CG movies that are the ultimate/smash 4 trailers and the smash ultimate story cutscenes...I don't even want to imagine the black magic Nintendo's own teams would be able to do with tools like DLSS and a whooping amount of 16GB at their hands.
Like ... how hard can they go and school others?
I would say both are equally important. With Series S amount is the biggest issue.I don't think 16GB vs 12GB would make all that much of a difference, RAM speed will always be a bigger concern than the overall amount.

Nobody needs it.why not?
Sony Santa Monica talked about neural upscaling for God of War and they made it work for select texture maps. Expanding on that could make for some good savings if the upscale is fast enoughI think a lot of people have forgotten about Nvidia's texture neural upscaling tech that allows for compression of high res textures so that they don't use as much VRAM. This will very likely be a tool ready to use by the time Switch NG comes out. So even if the RAM usable by games is only about 10gb, the textures will be able to be compressed, leaving room for more VRAM and System RAM split.

Nobody should not be worried about Switch 2 perf.
The technology has really evolved and producing too old tech will be too expensive.
About 0.5GB I believe. How much RAM does the OG Switch OS use? Do we expect that amount or maybe more reserved for Switch 2 OS?
Less than 1GB. Like 800MB?How much RAM does the OG Switch OS use? Do we expect that amount or maybe more reserved for Switch 2 OS?

I have already imagined but home tech and mobile tech progress were not at the same level. The tech market should've reached this point before Wii times, imagine what we could've had.
Could All Switch 1 games running on switch 2 have better framerates, or do they need to be patched in to do that?
nobody needs tempered expectationsNobody needs it.
Maybe that’s why they are giving 512GB to storage at mostBut still, the price for how much space is on these Type A card is ridiculous for an all-age gaming system that you're also buying games for. Folks would probably rather stick with current microSD as non-runnable storage for Drake games where they'd need to copy to internal.
Horii: i already did that when we anounced Dragon Quest 11 for NX(now know as Nintendo Switch),"Oh god no Mr. Horii, please think of the NDA we're all under!!!"
Horii: "Horii can hear ya. Horii don't care."
The problem is that, like the knowledge needed to access OG Zelda's 8th dungeon, the download is exclusive for Nintendo Power subscribers. That's why we are concerned. Why is everyone concerned about RAM? If Nintendo launches with only 6 or 8 GB, I'm sure we will have the option to download more RAM later on.
finaly themes, folders, a better eShop and more time for recording footage of my gamesOh nice! I thought it was 1 GB. This means a 1-1.5 GB OS could have some new/better features.
because 6/8GB of RAM memory, would make extremely hard to develop games on Switch sucessor, developers are already frustated due to Xbox Series S low memory, at least 12GB RAM, should be on Nintendo next hardwareWhy is everyone concerned about RAM? because Drake sounds too good. they gotta have some kind of negative to return to normalicyWhy is everyone concerned about RAM? If Nintendo launches with only 6 or 8 GB, I'm sure we will have the option to download more RAM later on.
We also don’t need a new console but here we are"we" dont really need 512gb

0 GB for games, 16 GB for the eShop
Nate says BoTW demo was shown running at 4k/60 fps, paired with DLSS
I can't quickly pull up the interviews, but early dev interviews gave conflicting figures, between 3.2GB to 3.5GB available to games IIRC. So your 800GB sounds right.Less than 1GB. Like 800MB?
