StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

I don't even want to imagine the black magic Nintendo's own teams would be able to do with tools like DLSS and a whooping amount of 16GB at their hands.

Like ... how hard can they go and school others?

Would it be possible for RT and Tensor Cores to run at higher clock rates than the rest of the GPU? If possible, I think it would be interesting, since they are a small part of the die they would not cause major problems with the battery, and I believe they would be the most sensitive component to a clock boost in the entire SoC.

I'm not sure about this but I have wondered of the power sent to the chip could move between the shader/RT cores and the tensor cores if needed, since I heard that for is something that happens after the rest of the frame is made.

For our all sanity, let's meet in the middle.

12 gigs of Christm- I mean March.

"On the fiiiiirst day of RAM-mas my true Switch 2 gave to meeeeee..."

That kinda depends on how they're going about their asset creation in The New Age (tm). I still get the feeling EPD is understaffed per project compared to other studios looking at the conservative amount of new art in totk for instance, and if they want to start schooling studios like Squaresoft...

Well, I'm glad they're expanding so much, and if they start employing those new folks as effectively as they've ran EPD they might start some schoolage!

First day of Switchmas will be 16gb of Ram
2nd day of Switchmas will be Mediakek CPU 🤣

Breaking News: Switchmas was cancelled on it's second day.

Well, SQEX teams need to stop schooling themselves the negative way first.

I think the total amount of devs in Nintendo EPD is around 700-800. And Nintendo have 10 different EPD groups. Which means that every EPD group has around 70-80 devs if they are all around the same size. But if they are different sizes we have some EPD groups with over 100 devs and others with about 50 devs, so that seems understaffed compared to how many devs other studios have working on different projects.

Good Lord people, 4 pages because Nate just mentions the word RAM?

We've known for a very long time that 8GB was extremely unlikely just due to what is available from suppliers. That hasn't changed.

Some extremely concerning anxiety going on here

Lol, that’s nothing. Wait until he mentions BC.

8 gb doom or 16 gb awesomeness, make up your damn mind.

Nate said he heard about conflicting info but nothing about 8 GB

It's either 12 or 16 GB RAM (current dev kits is 16, and some Switch 1 dev kits were same ram specs as consumer release, so this leaves the door open)

First day of Switchmas will be 16gb of Ram
2nd day of Switchmas will be Mediakek CPU 🤣
3rd day of Switchmas will be the revelation that the Switch 2 is way over budget and Nintendo committed accounting fraud to cover it up and now have to follow in the ways of Toshiba.

Just thinking aloud here, 16gb would be a welcome surprise and put it in line with PS5+XSX (although they launched 3 years ago already so potentially not THAT surprising).
My assumption was they'd go with at least 12, given various dev complaints about the Series S and so on which I'm sure they'll have noticed. We can assume Nintendo want the new hw to have a good long lifespan around the 6 or 7 year mark, so anything less than 12gb would be pretty baffling tbh.

We were blessed by Nate The 8.

Capcom were told 12, said they want 16, got what they wanted, don't develop seriously for the system until the next portable MonHun 3-4 years after launch.

It's like poetry, it rhymes.

I’m guessing similar behind closed door events will be held at TGS but maybe they’ll show off games that bigger companies are bringing to Switch? We know teams like Square and Capcom would have been some of the first to get dev kits so it would be interesting if they hold more behind closed doors presentations for some of the smaller/next tier Japanese developers but using demos created by the bigger companies to show what they are bringing and how capable the system is (FF7R, REmakes that kind of thing)
since Dragon Quest 12 was no confirmed consoles it gonna release(which is very odd),maybe at TGS 2023, Square Enix will hint the game will come to Nintendo next hardware along side current gen hardware.

"Oh god no Mr. Horii, please think of the NDA we're all under!!!"

Horii: "Horii can hear ya. Horii don't care."
