Directs market games coming out for about the next six months. September Directs market the holiday games and generally reveal games for January - March. There can be a million games releasing in the second half of the year and that still has nothing to do with games that are due out in early 2024 that need to be announced. I don't understand how people can be on this board obsessing about Directs for years on end and still not get them.

in fairness, we've seen it happen a few times to varying extents. Pikmin 3 Deluxe was ready in spring 2020 iirc, and I think nsmbud was done in summer of 2018
Wasn't NSMBU Deluxe like done for about 10 months or something? Vaguely remember it that way

First of all, how exactly do we know that they were ready?
And second, being finished around half a year before launch doesn't seem particularly bizarre, especially when talking about fairly straigh-forward ports.

by upload date to the eshop, iirc. and if you don't consider half a year bizarre that's certainly fair

I'm off to play some games.

Have fun, and trust the process!

That doesn’t explain these wait times. Odyssey came out 4 years after 3D world. Tropical freeze came out 4 years after DK Country Returns

Heck, even Elden Ring only took 5 years to make
next 3D Mario could have started as a Switch, got switched to Switch sucessor game, also the pandemic could have impacted it development

Games can be rebooted, retooled much later in development cycles than people would expect. Sometimes other projects are made first, only to get cancelled. There's a lot of stuff that can explain the wait times between these things.
The most likely explanation for some of these games is that they’re done and Nintendo is sitting on them

I’m going to speak to my Magic 8-ball and ask it if Prime 4 will be in the direct.

Man, WB has two awesome Middle Earth games in their portfolio but decided to miracle port this. though I somewhat understand their decision, this has better sale potential.
how the hell. that game runs like crap on every platform lmao
Turn Me Up studios magic. They have 3 miracle ports coming in next two months, we'll see how good they are in optimization. It Takes Two was a pretty good port.

Does it though? The game was critically panned and we just got all the better DC games. Middle Earth is tied to LOTR and fans love the games.

So i guess every night- every morning is gonna go crazy, but then the afternoon will be a snooze

Arkham Trilogy Direct Trailer is literally third most watched third party Direct trailer of all time. People love Batman games, even if there's no batman in the Batman game lol
Said it last time but notably that website Doctre brings up also lists Cloud-Only switch games so that's what I'm expecting.
It's got rated. Cloud games don't get rated.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe targetting a Spring launch pre-covid was info from Emily, whereas NSMBUDX is extrapolation from Kimishima being credited as executive producer, meaning the project was wrapped during his tenure (for reference, Furukawa is the sole executive producer credit on Smash Ultimate).

It may be even earlier in both cases though. Classification dates don't represent when a game has gone totally gold and ready to ship; but they need to be in some presentable, content complete state to be judged; and the USK include those dates on their site. Some of the more notable gaps between classification and release:

Prime Remastered and Engage are also dated to 2021 on their Australian classifications too, and they align with LinkedIn listings and Emily's info repsectively so there's no reason to doubt those two games were sat on for an especially long time.

So what first party announcements do you think we will get beyond the ones we have leaked (Mario vs Dk, some F-Zero stuff, peach game)
I really don't know, between Nintendo releasing so many games the last 3 years and the new console coming soon, I don't think they might have anything beyond ports.
That FE Remake that was rumored, maybe Prime 4, maaaaybe the next Camelot game, but that's it.

All that plus Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon HD.

Don't expect much beyond that. September Directs have always been third party heavy, we'll probably get some big Square reveals.

I think Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, but I guess that’s not really first party. Star Fox I don’t see until next gen. Mario Party I believe is coming next holiday. Kirby is said to get a new game announced.

Hmm, so
January- Dark Moon remaster
February- Mario vs DK
March- Peach game
April- Prime 4
May- Maybe something new?
June- drought starts before new console

I don't think that Mario vs Donkey Kong is an eshop game. At worst, it will be priced the same way as Warioware or Detective Pikachu Returns.

Part of me thinks we're probably reaching the end of the line on "big" announcements left for the Switch, but another part of me thinks that I've thought that for every recent direct in the last year or so and they've surprised me every time. Seems like every time it starts to look like the Switch is well and truly running out of steam, Nintendo just takes that as a challenge.

So I don't really know what to expect from a direct.

I do feel like we're probably due for something small from HAL, in the vein of Boxboy or Part-Time UFO. And it's also been a hot minute since we've seen anything from Camelot.

Meh, on the last few September directs we saw the announcements of Forgotten Land and later Engage and RTDDX which were Q1 of the following year.
....but those weren't e-shop titles though, those are full retail releases from major franchises.
