My grasping at straws hope is that they are giving Metroid Prime 4 the same secrecy that they gave the E3 2019 reveal of the sequel to Breath of the Wild (nobody knew about it beforehand so it was the only thing that didn't leak).

Peach game made by Team Ninja?!

Get hype for a stylish princess j-action game...with plenty of "bounce"!

And I ain't talking about Mario hops. 😁🥴
actually is Peach have magical dress, a la Salor Moon, that each dress give her a ability, kinda like the emotion mrchanic was in Super Princess Peach, blue dress give her water ability

God I love those shorts! The one with the paralysing Ratkid & Father and with the Raccoon father & child is one of my favs🤣

He said in his Discord that MP4 "is definitely ready to be shown off" but doesn't know if it's going to be in the Direct

Basically what Nate said, Nintendo waiting for the right time to show it. If nothing has changed, H1. IIRC.

one of these days Nintendo is gonna release a new N64 game about a chicken and when people express confusion they'll admit that they've been sitting on it for 25 years waiting for it to hatch but eventually gave up and just released it

I heard it was a year but i could be wrong, game was ready by spring 2022 I think
Didn't they say somewhere that it was done by 2022 but they delayed it that year so they could iron out the bugs? So idk if that's necessarily sitting on totk

So since remaster of forgotten Wii game seems to be on the table now, can I ask for a Muramasa Remaster/Remake? Even better if we get the Vita exclusive content. I know there is like 0% chance we get this in this direct but I'm going to hope

imagine if prime 4 is close to done or done and they are just sitting on it. They did they same thing with totk

How long did they sit on TOTK i wonder?
They didn't. That patch that came out after review copies were out and before the game came out kinda proves they've worked on the game until the very last minute and it absolutely wouldn't be released any earlier than May 12th even if they wanted to. Game went gold late March 2023.

The game was mostly content complete by the time of the delay announcement, but they needed a full year to polish it and it's absolutely about what would take to polish a game that big and complex.

Nintendo sitting on completed games is a thing and we've seen it with Metroid Prime Remastered(gone gold by September 2021) and FE Engage(content complete by July 2021, gone gold some time in early 2022 I guess) but some games are the absolute contrary of that and are gone gold just in time for manufacturing and releasing on their dates.

That was the case with BotW(gone gold in February and released in March), even tho people still try to act like the game was done in early 2017, Super Mario Odyssey only got its ESRB rating in late July and with the upgrades from the E3 build to the retail game we know they took their time to polish, Splatoon 3 which gone gold late July for an early September release and of course Tears of the Kingdom which gone gold late March and needed a day 0 patch.

Metroid Prime 4 might/probably is content complete by now, but it definitely needs a hell lot of polish and they probably want to have a set release date or narrow release window to show it.

I don't care for Mother/Earthbound at all, but I would pop off like crazy and be excited for fans if/when Mother 3 gets an official localization. It's about appreciating gaming both historically and as an art form.
Mother 3 is never coming to the west unless copyright laws in the US change drastically

I was there when the first leaks came off the assembly line. I was there when the corrupted hype that had congealed in the vats was pincered up and hosed off and carried down the line to be dropped onto the rolling belts. I was there when the first insiders dropped their predictions and turned on their microphones. I was there when they began welding the foul clout into their accounts, when they began soldering the expectations, bolting on the joycons, pouring in the hints. I was there when they turned the hype on them and I was there when the leaks began to twitch.

Iirc wasn’t it that they spent one year of polishing and debugging? I forgot where I read that.
Yeah that was the case. They spent the entire delay polishing the game and fixing bugs. They didn't "sit on it" like they do with some other games like Fire Emblem, they were working on it until a month or 2 before release.

Yeah, I think you're right (although I can't find where this was said atm), but if it were "sat on", that would imply it was completely finished i.e. done with the polishing phase of development.

This year's Nintendo lineup is complete.
So Another Code, Peach, and vsDK will very likely be released between January and March next year.
If MP4 is added to that, it will be a pretty solid lineup for Q1.

I doubt Mario vs DK would be announced this early if it's a Q1 2024 game. It's most likely an e-shop title.

yeah, being "content complete" is so different from being "sat on"
Yup, and I get the feeling that a lot of these games that Nintendo is supposedly "sitting on" are content complete, but haven't actually gone gold.

But hey, the narrative has already been built and Nintendo apparently has dozens of games ready to release but decide not to for some reason...

I can't believe Nintendo was done with TOTK, Metroid Prime 4, Mario Kart 9, Cotton Donkey Kong's Big 3D Adventure, and F-Zero 1999 back in 2020 and just been sitting on all the physical copies since.

That doesn’t explain these wait times. Odyssey came out 4 years after 3D world. Tropical freeze came out 4 years after DK Country Returns

Heck, even Elden Ring only took 5 years to make
Games can be rebooted, retooled much later in development cycles than people would expect. Sometimes other projects are made first, only to get cancelled. There's a lot of stuff that can explain the wait times between these things.

Nintendo developing games is not comparable to most other studios. They don't have a team for each series, they switch it up often. Sometimes a series simply doesn't have any developers on it at Nintendo. The people who make 3D Mario games have been doing other stuff and Retro Studios was working on an unannounced project which got canned in favor of a Prime 1 remaster and Prime 4.

in fairness, we've seen it happen a few times to varying extents. Pikmin 3 Deluxe was ready in spring 2020 iirc, and I think nsmbud was done in summer of 2018
