Let’s hope. Prime 2 and Prime 4 to end the direct. Maybe they’ll spend a couple of minutes on Splatoon’s Side Order dlc. A new trailer for Mario RPG.
Actually willing to bet money that the last reveal will be kid icarus uprising remastered

"Skeleton-crew"

sorry but it was just a big as any other direct
No no no

Getting something repeatedly wrong doesn't mean you can't repost the exact same idea ad infinitum and it certainly doesn't mean you're wrong.

See! The general Direct we got actually wasn't a general Direct. That makes perfect sense.

Well it wasn't, was it? It was the old guard of the Wii U launch window being sent in to keep the ship steady.

I'm also not even saying we wont get a September Direct, just that it'll probably be a DLC Direct, now that SMW is out of the way.

Yeah, I'm personally excited for the Nintendo Land port.

Oh yeah absolutely. I'm glad Nintendo realise 2D games are basically worthless and that 2D Mario gets half as much air time as Xenoblade Chronicles 3. They've clearly got their priorities right.

I predict that not only will this year have three totally normal general Directs, next year will too. Depending on if new hardware is launching early or late, things will change in terms of the contents, but the scheduling will be the same as any other year.

Even if we don't have Super Mario Bros. Wonder, I'm still pretty convinced that the September Direct is going to be Fire Emblem, Mario stuff, and Metroid as the first-party tentpoles. Just swap out a heavy focus on SMBW during the Mario section for one on Princess Peach will star as the main character in her own new game. And even if one doesn't think those are major titles, or that the focus will end up being mostly DLC, a Nintendo General Direct is still a General Direct. The label doesn't change just because the content is underwhelming.

(I also don't see how Nintendo has been particularly news adverse? No more than usual, anyway.)

They do game specific directs a lot. This isn’t new. They did a Splatoon direct last year august and had the September direct.
True. I'm just doubtful of getting another General before 2024. Wonder and SMRPG they can market individually.

I can't wait for december 2023 when we'll finally see nintendo use DLC to fill up the switch line up like people kept saying since january 2023.

September!
  • Pokemon DLC 1: Isle of Glitches
  • Zelda DLC 1: Kass's Master Quest for Ace Accordionists
  • Splatoon 3 DLC 2: the actual DLC
  • Pikmin 4 physical DLC: Pikmin 1 and 2 in a box

btw, don't say it out loud, but the real reason as to why we're getting a mario wonder direct is because they usually announce the special edition switch oled for the game 2 month in advance and if they had to wait for the september nintendo direct and it would have been only a month before the release of the game and it would have probably been too short of a marketing cycle.

I think it's poetic that 2D Mario and WarioWare, two series that launched during the twilight years of the Wii U
no but genuinely

What do you mean by this

The 2D Mario series launched in 1985 and the WarioWare series launched in 2003. The twilight years of the Wii U are 2015-2016

like… what are you even talking about?

You guys really need to embrace the "Wonder info before the Direct" lifestyle, everything just fits so nicely.

Hands on preview this week, playable build at Nintendo Live this weekend, and Direct right before TGS a few weeks later.
apologize to Charamiwa

Honestly the only twilight year of the Wii U was 2016. 2015 had Mario Maker and Splatoon among others.

Either way, NSMBU came out in 2012 and Game & Wario in 2013, so I have no idea what that post means.

maybe he's saying that the wiiU was born as a dead console so the twilight years of the WiiU were literally the first year of the WiiU

The way I see it, if they were light on content to show in September, they would have put the Mario Wonder blowout in that Direct.
Maybe. It's also possible they just didn't do it because it will have the Martinet x Miyamoto video.

It’ll still be 40 minutes.
I don't really care about the time, though I guess I did Wonder if it meant a slightly shorter direct. I moreso care about the quality. Wonder having a showcase there, assuming it was good, would only require a few more announcements to make it a hype direct for me. Now without Wonder, I'm just wondering what could fill that time adequately without being just alright

Don't call Mario fat

Literally the most reputable Nintendo journalist in the world has reported it'd be a barebones year, but of course Dring is wrong and everyone here is right.

I think you need to stop underestimating Super Mario Bros Wonder. It looks fantastic, it will undoubtedly sell over 20 million copies and the fact that it's having its Direct shows just how important it is to Nintendo.

I hope the Mario Direct doesn't mean the general one will be lighter ...

Nintendo still has Metroid Prime 4. And can have :

  • F-Zero (based on Nate)
  • New Donkey Kong
  • And others IPs

Nintendo have games for Switchi.

dunno why it's so hard for people to accept that Dring was wrong. yeah, Super Mario Wonder is kinda niche, which is why it's getting its own Direct for extra marketing, but they've got Super Mario RPG in the back as their big holiday game, featuring a character that people actually give a shit about (Mallow)

Ah yes the classic 'nothing good will happen at all'-style Direct, which people commonly love to anticipate. The only problem with this is that didn't we just have one of those in June? Surely two in a row is a bit much and we'll actually get something good in this one? Also didn't Nate say 2023 would be F-Zero's year (to paraphrase)?
Called it.

And who is honestly surprised? What else do they even have to show? This is a twilight-years game, for a system in its twilight years. Stopgap-, hold-the-fort-ware until the Switch successor comes next year with the real games.
Dring was absolutely correct, and it is why Edge are the most reputable publication in the industry.

I think it's poetic that 2D Mario and WarioWare, two series that launched during the twilight years of the Wii U, are being handed the torch to keep the ship steady in the twilight years of the Switch. Two old veterans now gracefully taking on the role as stopgap-ware.
I love your presence in this thread. Always providing me with lots to laugh about. Thanks for keeping the laughs coming. ❤️

See you in the R(h)ate the Direct thread!
