Mmmm it's time. Thank you for starting this @xghost777 !

Scratch 9/12 off the calendar. That's expected to be Apple's annual fall event day this year:

Will Super Mario RPG have other new content? Now seems like a good time to find out!
It's a Nintendo/Squaresoft JRPG getting a remake. It's going to have new content. It's practically obligated to have it considering the pedigree (both M&L 3DS releases had new content, and Square is notorious for adding new stuff whenever their games get remade/ported)

the Metroid Prime subseries unlike Pikimin, follow closely the Metroid timeline(it set between Metroid 1 e 2), with the end of Metroid Prime 4 possibly setting the events of Metroid 2
the metroid "timeline" is a lot of self contained games with vague threads that link each other, they wont use mp4 as a stoll for m2 lol.

If Fire Emblem can get two Warriors game, why not Xenoblade. I don't really see it as any more obscure. If it's popular enough for two Smash fighters, it's good enough for a Musou.

It wouldn't be my first choice (that'd probably be a Mario themed one) but it'd be rad.
Mario Musou should happen fast, please!!!

You indeed did:

What was the leaked date for MH6?
What if Rise 2 ended up cooking faster?

I think they'll want to make a Prime 5 so I highly doubt it'll directly lead to Metroid 2. But if it did it would be pretty good!! Ending with Samus going on a mission to take down all Metroids after Sylux multiplied them to turn into destroying plagues or created Mother Brain again trying to make another Metroid Prime with the larva he stole idk.
Monster Hunter 6? 2024 is the franchise 20th anniversary
Hmmm that would make sense as a February/March game. Will it be the sequel to World or to Rise tho? To World looks likelier since it's older.
some of this games you speculate like EPD 8 3D game, could be potencial games for Switch sucessor
Yeah, EPD 8 is definitely 3D Mario and most likely launch title or first holiday title of Switch 2. I think Metroid Prime 4 might end up as cross gen. I can see Astral Chain 2 revealed on a Direct for Switch and ending up as cross gen too.
Aww yeah, best thread is back!

My (1st party) predictions:

(Opening reveal) New 2d Zelda (or Oracle remakes) by Grezzo - Spring 2024
(Middle reveal) Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War remake - Q1 2024 (I'm guessing February)
F-Zero GX port shadowdrop
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Wave 6 - October 2023
Peach game new trailer - releasing March 2024
Super Mario Wonder new trailer
(Closing reveal) Metroid Prime 4 gameplay trailer - Spring 2024
Would be the greatest Direct possible if it happened 😭. But please let the 2D Zelda be a brand new game!!!
Expect: Monster Hunter World 2
Reality: Resident Evil 1 RE-Remake
So fast after 4? Hmmm 2 and 3 remakes were back so it's possible. What will it be tho? Another 3rd person remake? Maybe they go for 1st person for 1/Zero/Code Veronica remakes?

I think it's finally time for Resident Evil Switch 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Nintendo also usually do an Indie World in August, so I expect nintendo to announce something about that soon.
I was thinking about Nintendo announcing a game in August for late September in the vein of the Ring Fit Adventure announcement in September for October. A game that usually isn't a Direct thing. Might even be Ring Fit 2!!! An enby can hope 🥺
How much Level 5 do we expect to get? DECAPOLICE still needs a release date if it's still due for this year or pushed into early next, as does Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. If those two show up again, might as well toss in that new Professor Layton.

Also, yeah, aren't we due for an Indie World this month? Next week, perhaps?
Decapolice and Fantasy Life I definitely expect there, and both getting dated for late 2023 or early 2024. Layton can be for the February Direct. Maybe even a new game by them announced!
Any chance of a switch tomadachi life game?
Let's hope!! I think it can either happen this December or maybe it's a cross gen game and comes by early 2025.
Cacpom can also have unrealistic expectations sometimes.

I expect to be disappointed. A truly big game will have a longer marketing and hype cycle, as Sony, MS and even Nintendo would fight over who gets to reveal it to juice console sales.

I expect an unknown unannounced game releasing by Mar 2024 is probably not that calibre title
It would tho. Monster Hunter Rise which is their biggest release since World was announced in September for a March launch. I think it can be a new mainline MonHun game tbh.

I'm hoping it's Resident Evil Switch tho, please Capcom make me happy.

Quoting just to watch it later!

Now this is a good. A new 2D Zelda is what we’re still missing

I think there's a brand new 2D Zelda. But I don't think it will be shown off in this Direct. My prediction is that it will be released on Switch sometime next year but you can play it on Switch 2 and if you do, you get some type of bonus. Nothing major but maybe something that shows off a new feature that the next Switch has.

Anyone who thought Metroid Prime 4 was going to be open world was delusional, especially with how Prime Remaster works.

I'm expecting it to be a Prime game but with much more content. They'll probably do the pseudo open world stuff that Prime 3 did, but I doubt they will do anything that involves rendering more than 2 rooms at the same time.

2024.

My theory is they united World and Rise teams. Question is will this game be on Switch or is it gonna be years (likely more than 4 years) before we play a new MH game on a Nintendo system?
I think if they did the separate game thingy and started World sequel after Iceborn was done(so early 2019) and Rise sequel after Sunbreak was done(early/mid 2022) one might come next year and the other in 2025/2026. If they go for some asset reusing or world building reusing idk it might get done faster.

They might want to keep World an open world style game and Rise a more story driven style game, idk, and make both Portable and World separate.

Early 2024 as a full multiplat would be ideal(if they moved for the modified RE Engine of Rise and have Switch in mind since the beginning it's quite possible imo, if not, Switch 2 late port obviously). But if they kept it separate, I think 2025 for both Switch and Switch 2.

MH Rise marketing cycle fits exactly, actually

September 2020 announce -> March 2021 release

99% chance this is MH6 to be announced at a TGS-adjacent Sony event

And the reason is that 60fps is a must for Prime games.
Perhaps prime 5 on switch 2 could be open world

You guys have a point, but part of me thinks the timing was due to COVID year with no summer direct. I feel like that was an E3 announcement

I can't wait until there's a consensus date for the Direct and this thread gets 50,000 posts a day, that's my favorite part of these threads.

They already are "united" in the way that matters: as a large force with Capcom Division 2 that can share tech and knowledge, work on multiple projects at once, while having various people shift responsibilities as needed. There's no real "Main" and "Portable" teams, anymore, and the thing that really denotes the "flavor" of the project is largely due to the leads (see: Ichinose for Generations and Rise).

Clearly, it's working out very well for Capcom, so I don't think there's any need to change anything up.

If it means giving Ichinose and co. more time to cook up a worthy "portable style" for Switch's successor, I'm fine with that.

whats this about mh6 leaking? I havent seen anything about that. It would be all over the internet if it leaked
nothing leaked just based on past release dates MH6 in 2024 makes sense, especially with the 20th anniversary

They still need to be a separate teams for "portable" MH to come out right after MH6 G expansion and its updates are out. Team Ichinose should be working on MHR2 while MH6 is still going on.

I don't think it's the case and I suspect Ichinose is a part of MH6 team. There are no "world style" or "portable style" MH's anymore, they made it clear with MHR port to home consoles (Switch didn't get World). If Switch doesn't get a MH6 port, I think successor's best bet is getting a MH7 port somewhere around 2026 - 2027.

The thing is, Capcom is steadily drifting away from Nintendo. Their last new game on Switch was Monster Hunter Stories 2 in 2021. And since their their efforts are abysmal at best, bunch of rom dump collections and mobile ports (Ghost Trick is the touched up version of the mobile version). If they wanna redeem themselves, this "million seller" title needs to be on Switch. If not, I don't expect good things about future Capcom support. Especially on the successor.

The only "leak" is mostly Tsujimoto all but officially saying that the next MH game would be shown off by TGS. He even did it again recently, during their investor report thing a few months back.

Again, I still don't see it so dimly.

What happened with Rise was pretty much the equivalent of what happened with Portable 3rd getting a "HD Remaster" port on PS3 over a decade ago: A game that was clearly made with the portable market in mind, ended up getting a release on home console hardware with modest visual upgrades. A nice way for Capcom to make just a bit more cash, but also was likely greenlit because Covid effed up time tables majorly for MH6's impending release.

As for Capcom's general outlook? Obviously, unless Switch Dos surprises with its specs, it's not going to fit into all of Capcom's ongoing current-gen plans. Do I still think it will have a place within them though? Sure! Whatever Mega Man thing will likely end up on there. The SF6 devs pretty much made it clear they're waiting on Dos before bothering to give the Nintendo side of things a chance to play. MH Stories 2 did well enough that I imagine a sequel will hit within the next two years, and perhaps give Nintendo owners something while waiting for Ichinose's next game. And who knows if we might get another surprise like Ghouls 'n Ghosts?

All that to say to say is that I'm not quite ready to write off the Capcom x Nintendo pairing just yet. Though I will reiterate that, admittedly, a lot of it will depend on how serious they are about their non-AAA gaming franchises, especially with the company being the healthiest they've been in decades.

And Chrono Break! We heard about that one all the way back in 2001 and we're still waiting for an official announcement.
I really feel more Chrono is going to happen in some capacity in the near-ish future (a few years or so). The Twitter account name, new Chrono Cross scene, and the one year removed Chrono Cross patch seem to suggest more Chrono to come.

I don’t doubt that there’s a DK game in the works, it’s just a question of when it appears. The TGS Direct tends to be third-party heavy, especially on Japanese games and RPGs, so I’m expecting a lot of those and a lot of ports and remasters to show up. So the question is how many 1st party games will we get, and I’m leaning toward not many as the transition toward Switch 2 is on the horizon. If it’s ready and if Nintendo doesn’t think it’s too soon, Fire Emblem Geneology makes perfect sense for this Direct - maybe we’ll get another FE opener for the third time in four shows 😄

Where the fuck is Super Mario 128. I'm beginning to think that Nintendo is a fake insider. D Tier. Sega is more reliable.

There's barely any connection between the story of the 2D games and the Prime series.
The only reason they are set before Metroid 2 is because Samus hasn't exterminated the Metroids on their homeplanet by that point.

If they wanted they could choose any other point in the timeline.
If they want to use Sylux though its definitely set after Metroid Prime Hunters, so before Metroid Prime 2 at the earliest.
But I don't think they would bring back Phazon so after Metroid Prime 3 is a given I think.

They could just be silly and set it after Dread or Fusion, but I don't think they want to write themselve sinto a corner on purpose.

Plus Switch 2 is coming. It’s hard to know what’s coming for switch only or cross gen or switch 2 exclusive. People have to realize we’re in this weird gray area for the next year. We don’t know when switch 2 will be announced and if they’ll show cross gen games prior to it or what.

Don’t forget Star Fox Grand Prix. Any day now it’ll be announced
yeeeaaahh I'm not so sure that one's coming, word around town was that it was fake information fed to weed out insiders. Chrono Break, on the other hand, had actual trademarks filed by Square so it's definitely real and definitely coming out, they were probably just waiting for Mitsuda to finish his commitment to the Xenoblade trilogy because there's no Chrono without Mitsuda and now that that's done all I have to do is keep talking about it in forums until Square finally sees we're ready for the splendor and then it'll definitely finally happen yall

There’s definitely going to be a tricky balancing act with Switch 2 cross gen and exclusives, but I do think with them down to essentially one line for software (no handheld and home console split) I’m expecting a pretty solid transition and then a generous cross gen period similar to Nintendo’s competitors. A lot of Nintendo design, doesn’t necessarily hinge on power so much even if we can easily imagine clear benefits with higher resolutions and frame rates for example.

I think we’ll have some solid pillar games next year with Peach and Fire Emblem and then sort of coin toss on cross gen or not for both Metroid Prime 4 and DK. Throw in some solid ports, third parties, and indies, and we should get to Switch 2 just fine.

This is honestly the main reason I want the Switch 2 reveal to happen sooner than later - it stops the need for (most) secrecy and Nintendo will definitely break out the big guns for a new system launch, so we can see what they’ve been cooking. And then we won’t have to play the “are they holding this back for Switch 2?”, “is this going to be cross gen?”, “is this port/3rd party game not announced for Switch yet because they can’t announce it until Switch 2 is official, or because it’s just not coming?” game anymore.

Didn't Chrono Break's Japanese trademark expire in 2012?

This is probably carryover from years of following "Pro" talk (even though it's obviously now a "2"), but I've always assumed Nintendo would make relatively scalable games that'll run on the current Switch while benefiting from a bump in resolution, LOD, maybe even lighting and particle effects (anything that wouldn't take up too much extra space on a cart), while letting the third parties be the ones to do big, bombastic exclusives for the new hardware. So basically all Nintendo output would be crossgen, at least for like a year or so maybe, before gradually doing a few games themselves that can only be done on the new hardware, and then even more gradually moving totally over.

But lately I've been thinking, as I've been seeing people suggest the new system would need Nintendo-made exclusives to sell it (otherwise the dreaded "we already have a Switch at home" problem arises) maybe a compromise? Maybe a couple big core exclusives while keeping only most of their games scalable, and maybe only for 6-12 months before moving development totally over?

I dunno. A few series like Xenoblade could really use the help but most of the games I play don't seem to need moar grafficks, plus I don't have a 4K TV, so I'd like to be able to still play Nintendo's library over the next couple years without having to upgrade. If they treat this as a classic generation break and move all development over I'll probably miss quite a bit of their output for a while.

Anyway 🤷‍♂️😅

Yeah I don’t have a 4K TV either, so for me performance mode is definitely the big benefit from next gen. I don’t think Nintendo will be any different in that sense so I don’t think you’ll be excluded!

But your post reminded me, if PS5 and Xbox are any indication, I don’t think Switch 2 will have trouble selling at all for at least a year because supply will be a limiting factor. In that sense too, games aren’t just going to be stopping for Switch 1 when Switch 2 hits. Expect the platformers and Pokemon especially to be on both for a while. It’s the more ambitious open world stuff, the Xenoblades and Zeldas, where we’ll probably see exclusives come sooner.

I‘m still waiting for FE Genealogy Remake. It made me more desired for a traditional story-oritened FE after playing Engage.

One thing I realized that I really want is a new Yoshi. Crafted World felt extremely watered down.

Donkey Kong, Mario and Kirby all have their magnum opus games on Switch. Give Yoshi his own!
