One thing I realized that I really want is a new Yoshi. Crafted World felt extremely watered down.

Donkey Kong, Mario and Kirby all have their magnum opus games on Switch. Give Yoshi his own!

I want a new Wario Land. Doesn’t look like it’ll happen this gen, but hopefully next gen…
Good-Feel were planning to continue contract development along with their self-published game, and given we're over 4 years from Crafted World, I feel like their next Nintendo project(s?) could be due.

For now I'd settle for an international release for their new self-published game though.

Where the fuck is Super Mario 128. I'm beginning to think that Nintendo is a fake insider. D Tier. Sega is more reliable.
I sometimes really wonder why Nintendo is seemingly going to take more than 6 years to get the new 3D Mario out the door. I know it's probably the successor launch title but it's really weird that after Odyssey was a launch year title the next installment is on the next console.

Ahh, the best Direct Month of the year has arrived! January September!

I really feel that Metroid Prime 4 has a good chance to be revealed this time.
If 4 isn't revealed in this direct, it probably won't appear until next year, and I don't see Nintendo waiting that long to reveal it after Prime Remastered was shadowdropped in Feb
I know plenty of people have guessed 4 will be cross-gen with the Switch 2, but I'm skeptical. I feel like Nintendo would like to release it by itself rather than letting it compete with all the other causal launch titles.

Nintendo doesn’t do 2 3D Mario games on a system. They even advised Ubisoft to keep Mario + Rabbids one per system and they didn’t listen. Galaxy 2 is the only time they did it.

We still got Bowsers Fury.

I’m gonna keep predicting this. It’s never going to happen, but maybe if I type it enough times then it will manifest itself into the world.

The Nintendo Collection

Like the Criterion collection, but Nintendo. Lavishly beautiful packaging. Games with documentaries and extra features. Directors commentaries. Dynamic mini docs that talk about bits of games and then get you to play that scene. As they talk about possible changes and things they could do, the scene changes. For instance, as the documentary/commentary talks about the size of the character, or the motion of a jump, the physics and size of sprites change so you can get a feel for what they’re talking about.

Nintendo have this wonderful heritage and they should play to it more. These games are cultural artefacts. They deserve more than to be ROM dumped into a pile on NSO.

collections at launch : Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda and the Mother trilogy.

It is indeed, and that was when the home console they made it on was very successful, just like the Switch was in fact. So it kinda would've made sense to make another 3D Mario for the system (I know BF exists but that's just a game expansion). Nintendo certainly never takes 7 years to make a 3D Mario either.

I never understood why a lot of people are convinced Prime 4 will be a cross gen tittle. I mean, if the successor is BC then the game would launch on switch and maybe would be updated to work better on switch 2.

I think it will be a switch launch tittle and then in the presentation of switch 2 it will serve alongside with TotK as an example of "you can play you switch games but enhanced!". That would be a huge selling point considering the new machine won't have a lot of exclusives at launch, as usual with the new consoles. I don't see Nintendo selling full priced ports of switch games this time, they want to grow the userbase, not to fraction it, and I doubt these kind of ports would have a great audience when you just can play the original version through the BC.

There's barely any connection between the story of the 2D games and the Prime series.
The only reason they are set before Metroid 2 is because Samus hasn't exterminated the Metroids on their homeplanet by that point.

If they wanted they could choose any other point in the timeline.
If they want to use Sylux though its definitely set after Metroid Prime Hunters, so before Metroid Prime 2 at the earliest.
But I don't think they would bring back Phazon so after Metroid Prime 3 is a given I think.

They could just be silly and set it after Dread or Fusion, but I don't think they want to write themselve sinto a corner on purpose.
they why Ridley in the Metroid 2 remake look like Meta Ridley?

yeeeaaahh I'm not so sure that one's coming, word around town was that it was fake information fed to weed out insiders. Chrono Break, on the other hand, had actual trademarks filed by Square so it's definitely real and definitely coming out, they were probably just waiting for Mitsuda to finish his commitment to the Xenoblade trilogy because there's no Chrono without Mitsuda and now that that's done all I have to do is keep talking about it in forums until Square finally sees we're ready for the splendor and then it'll definitely finally happen yall
Actually, that was all because of a guy shitposting, gaming sites thinking that the Nintendo insider circle had their own separate sources on it, and someone posting fake leaks on Twitter for clout

Anyways I lean towards DK being fake at this point. idk about DK Vine's track record, but the only reliable person we've had back up its existence is Nate and Emily explicitly said she's never heard anything about it. That is significantly less smoke than MPR so I'm less likely to believe it just leaked early

maybe for the game to be graphical/techinal showcase for Nintendo next hardware

I think it comes down to when Prime 4 launches vs when the Switch 2 launches. If both end up being Holiday launch window I fully expect a cross gen launch. If Prime 4 is a first half or summer 2024 launch and the Switch 2 is holiday 2024, then I agree it'll just be a "switch games enhanced on Switch 2".

Thing is, they'd sell so many copies of games so many people already own. So many. You could do, say, Mario Galaxy in a fancy box with those documentary/commentary-type features, sell it for £50 and I'm ashamed to say I'd buy it in a heartbeat even though I can already play that game on my Switch.

It might be a nice way of bridging a new console gap. Solve the backwards compatibility 'problem' of cannibalising your own sales by doing a fancier new edition.

He did say barely, there's some connections, its just for the most part vague so theyre not super constrained by the timeline. Really though that bit is more of an easter egg, showing the halfway point of Ridley's recovery.

I would expect that to be the supposed Mario 3D as Prime 4 has been in development for the original switch for more than 4 years. It's going to be a looker, yeah, but it's a switch game after all.

But a cross gen launch would mean two different versions of the game? I don't see Nintendo doing that considering they want things as simple as they can be. I think their cross gen period will just limit to the enhanced backwards combability, but oc I could be wrong. Let's see, this is probably the console launch I have been more curious ever.

Yeah it will be a Switch game. The best they will do for Switch 2 is higher res and some eye candy.

A big thread event that I teased in the OP will launch later today! It’ll be at least 10 hours from now before it goes live and anyone can join!

I hope you are all looking forward to it :)

What makes Geneology great? I never played it, but it seems like many fans like it overall.
It's known for having one of the darkest stories in the series. It's arguably one of the best, if not the best, story in the series. The first half of the story in particular is infamous for its numerous plot twists. Combine a lot of world building, mechanics that would return later in the series (such as having two units marry and have children later on like in Awakening and Fates), and a great OST, and that just adds to the several reasons why those who've played it tend to love it.

Add in the fact that it never released outside of Japan, and that's a recipe for a remake.

Of course, a potential remake has some hangups. One of the concerns is the gameplay. Genealogy has only 12 chapters, but the maps are enormous, whereas most FE games have maps similar in size to Engage or the GBA games.

A bunch of folks tend to present Proteus Ridley as definitive proof of Prime's canonicity, but the bloke could simply have gotten mechanical parts across two separate continuities. The villain being rebuilt with cybernetics is a common enough trope. If you took someone who only played Metroid 1, and then immediately had them play Samus Returns directly after, Ridley's mechanical parts would require no explanation.

(I wanna believe it's all one continuity, I'm just saying Proteus Ridley on his own doesn't necessarily canonize the Prime games.)

I'm assuming if it's cross gen it'll be an up port that maybe takes advantage of the new consoles gimmick like Twilight Princess on Wii. I don't think Prime 4 will be a holiday 2024 title, I'm just saying if it is, I can see Nintendo putting a box on shelves that says "Prime 4 Switch 2" for early adopters to possibly spend a premium on.

Cacpom can also have unrealistic expectations sometimes.

I expect to be disappointed. A truly big game will have a longer marketing and hype cycle, as Sony, MS and even Nintendo would fight over who gets to reveal it to juice console sales.

I expect an unknown unannounced game releasing by Mar 2024 is probably not that calibre title
the Resident Evil 4 remake was released in march, Monster Hunter games usualy release in spring

If Xbox hadn't purchased Bethesda, I would be expecting a Starfield: Cloud Version but thankfully we are avoiding that evil.

Nintendo have made a big deal about Metroid Prime 4, to the point they bucked all their usual marketing instincts and revealed it was in development when all they had was a logo, and then subsequently making an apology video when development restarted. It just seems too big to chuck out during the dying days of the Switch. Far better to hold it back and use it as a showcase title to wow early adopters of their new console. It's a strategy that did wonders for BOTW.

I think they can blow our minds with just an in-engine/cutscenes story trailer/teaser, keeping some mystery and setting the tone of the atmosphere of the game and hopefully revealing some of the scenarios and of course Samus' power suit and face, put a "2024" in the end and end the Direct with it.

I'm not against that btw. Even if the game is fall 2024 I just badly wanna see it and have it with something other than "TBA" on the listing.

I still hope for a Spring 2024 release window and an actual trailer with pre-orders opening after the presentation tho.

They’ve kept fans waiting too long for Metroid Prime 4. This tease nonsense isn’t going to cut it with this game. It better be close to a full reveal when we first see it. It was announced 6 years ago regardless of a restart. You know fans have waited. You know they want to see it.

If it's true about Nintendo padding out there release schedule till the next console with ports/remasters then this is the direct where we will see it

I’d like to hope we get one new big splash announcement this direct. Metroid Prime 4 should be it. DK gonna wait until next year. A new 2D Zelda would be great, but at this point idk if that’ll release on Switch.

Also, Metroid just isn't big enough to launch a system. The series is a 3m seller at best, but the majority of that is coming from Europe & North America. The franchise doesn't sell at all in Japan. Early in the system's life, sure, but for launch there's no chance whatsoever they're using a launch game that doesn't have sway in their primary market.

If Prime 4 is a crossgen game, it's because all big Nintendo game are going to be like that for a while a la PS4/PS5. There's no way it follows the TOTK/TW model.

I'm not expecting Nintendo to keep releasing Zelda titles anually, since they made that promise to investors in less economically fortunate times and they will run out of remasters one day. Though, if there's no DLC or Musou game next year I could see them releasing a new FSA co-developed with Grezzo, it was a solid title (masterpiece i'd say) that didn't get a chance on a sucessful platform yet and would neatly diversify their online multiplayer games line-up.

Become they want a metroid game that sells more then 3m? I don't understand why so many dismisse the idea of Nintendo trying to make metroid more mainstream with prime 4 being there best shot, especially if it comesc out around a new console. Plus no one suggested that prime 4 would be the only launch title.

The series isn’t 3 million at best lol. Metroid Prime 4 will do more. Dread did more

to add to this, they have been hinting at it for years but with the Mario movie's massive success Nintendo is in a prime position to upgrade itself from Nintendo The Game/Console Makers To Nintendo the all entertainment company, they will want all there major franchise to become movies,tv shows, books, and I'm sure they'll love to have Metroid be a part of that, but it needs to be in the public conscious more and right now the best way to do that is with prime 4 and giving the biggest and best marketing push they can do for it and if it's a 2024 release then it would be with the next console

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see something Animal Crossing related in the next year or so, potentially even in this direct. They have the (leaked/rumored) Animal Crossing Lego sets coming in March. I wouldn’t put it past Nintendo to do a New Leaf remaster, a new spin-off that isn’t a board game, or even more DLC for New Horizons.

Or maybe they just release Animal Crossing Lego sets with no cross promotion. This is the company that made a Mario movie that you can’t watch on the device you use to play Mario games after all.

I’m still holdin out for tomodachi life anything, I need more mii goofiness!

Then with TTYD HD I’m gonna guess we aren’t seeing that until next year (if it’s real), but could potentially get an announcement for it.
I don’t really have many expectations for a September direct tbh, I feel like we will get like 2 big game reveals and a couple of in-depth looks at already announced titles.

Also I think an animal crossing spin off that’s set in the city would be neat with it focused on being a more involved city builder, or even one set in medieval times for a wacky cute rpg similar to miitopia would be fun to see, and it would be a nice callback to when the N64 animal crossing game was almost going to be a dungeon crawling RPG early in development. Though I’m not sure if animal crossing spin offs are even guaranteed as it felt like they were more so made during the struggling years of the Wii U and 3DS just to keep the IP somewhat relevant and in people’s heads.

I kinda meant 3-4m, which is the ballpark Dread is in. Either way, it isn't Mario, Zelda or Mario Kart numbers, which is what the system will launch with.

They're doing an amazing job building it up, hence Dread becoming the biggest-selling game in the franchise and Prime Remastered probably set to be number two by the end of the year. But a new console launch, especially one they're as anxious over as this one following how badly they bungled the Wii U off the back of a hit, is not the time to grow a franchise. It's the time to pull your biggest, safest hand and play the hell out of it.

Obviously it wouldn't be the only launch game, but every system launches with one big hitter franchise game + one or two games designed to show off the hardware (1-2 Switch, Nintendo Land, Wii Sports, Wave Race on GameCube for the water physics). I can see a situation where it's system launch in September with Mario, and then Metroid comes out in October or November, but it won't be day one. I'm willing to bet an item of fruit of your choosing on that.

Does it strike anyone else as strange that we have SO many games coming from the Super Mario universe? (By Super Mario universe, I’m talking about spin-off series and characters too.)

We have:
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Super Mario RPG
Princess Peach will star as the main character in a brand new game
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon remaster
WarioWare: Move It
Mariokart 8 BCP Wave 6
(not to mention the Donkey Kong game that’s apparently in development. Yes, I know DK came before Mario, but it’s still a shared universe.)

That’s five officially confirmed games and one DLC, which seems like a ton, especially when we don’t officially know all that much else about other series’ futures. By the way, I realize that this definition of “Super Mario universe” is pretty broad and includes a variety of different genres (2D platformer, racing, microgames, RPG, etc.) but I still thought it was interesting.
No, this seems normal. There's usually a couple Mario physical releases per year. LM DM and Princess Peach games are 2024 anyway.

I'm also sure that whatever the first trailer of MP4 is, a lot of people will say it looks impossible on Switch and must've been captured on a Switch 2 lol.
Prime 4 would be in good company with that tbh. Feels like we get at least one or two games per year now that look "too good for Switch" 🤣

Hi! I suggest adding "Rumored Pokemon game set in the Unova region" or "Rumored Pokemon Unova game" or something like that. There's currently a lot of speculation happening about that in the Pokemon community.

Yeah good point. I absolutely expect it to be revealed February 2024, but I just suggested because I thought it was just a rumored game list.

You guys have a point, but part of me thinks the timing was due to COVID year with no summer direct. I feel like that was an E3 announcement
If it was an E3 announcement it'd have been at the July Partner Direct like SMT V or the Persona games in the June 2022 ones. It was likely always a pre-TGS announcement.
I sometimes really wonder why Nintendo is seemingly going to take more than 6 years to get the new 3D Mario out the door. I know it's probably the successor launch title but it's really weird that after Odyssey was a launch year title the next installment is on the next console.
Well games started to take forever to make. Odyssey took as long as BotW(4 years) then its sequel taking as long as TotK should come as no surprise.
I believe it got engine shifts, COVID delays and platform shift that afforded for it to take as long to come as it's doing.
I think at first it's inception it was meant to come much faster(as TotK was), but with internal delays they decided to move it to the next console as it would be near it anyways.

That would be quite a big deal. A GCN or New Leaf remakester would be great and sell gangbusters, I don't think there's any remaster with a bigger sales potential. I think there's quite a lot of people thirsty for Animal Crossing and with the nature of the success that New Horizons was it was definitely ended too early.
Anyways 2025 feels about time to have a new mainline entry for the Succ so I expect it to be on the hardware reveal.
Prime 4 would be in good company with that tbh. Feels like we get at least one or two games per year now that look "too good for Switch" 🤣
Yeah lol, ever since September 2020 with MonHun Rise reveal, then it got a little crazier with Splatoon 3 reveal, Sparks of Hope and etc where every game was like "it must be running on next generation hardware!!"

It is indeed, and that was when the home console they made it on was very successful, just like the Switch was in fact. So it kinda would've made sense to make another 3D Mario for the system (I know BF exists but that's just a game expansion). Nintendo certainly never takes 7 years to make a 3D Mario either.
Nobody takes 7 years, but don’t forget about Covid delaying games. Then, it’s rumored Nintendo is working on a DK game from within the group.

-New 3D Mario
-3D World + Bowsers Fury
-Covid
-DK game
-Save 3D Mario for launch of new system because it’s either that or TOTK (and this wasn’t going to happen)

It makes sense.

I dunno, I kinda think there's maybe some decent odds Black and White remakes could be announced this Direct, or at the very least before the end of the year.

On the subject of Metroid Prime 4, I don't think it will necessarily move hardware if it launches alongside a new Switch; I believe there's something that could be said for launching it early in the window a month or two after the latest mainline 3D Mario. Metroid and Mario could definitely hit two very different demographics (especially with Zelda so very far away from what the next entry will be), and I think MP4 is the best game they have that thrives on being a graphical showcase and can absolutely make use of all the DLSS tech that upscales the image to 4K to show how much more powerful it is compared to the old Switch while still being crossgen.

All that said, there's no way Metroid Prime 4 skips the Switch after it was explicitly teased early in 2017 that it's coming to this console. I'm not sure how many there were, but people definitely bought a Switch for this game and are still waiting for it to release. I can't imagine how pissed I would be if I bought the console thinking the game was at most two or three years out before the dev reboot, only to find that it's now exclusive to the next console.
