It’s just hard to imagine what more they could do in September, outside of showing more of what’s already been announced. I have to imagine most big new announcements are being held off until the switch 2 is revealed. But I don’t work at nintendo, nor does my uncle, so who knows lol

Also, im in the middle of playing super princess peach for the first time. It’s a fine platformer, if a little basic tbh. Nice art though. I hope the new peach game is a bit more mechanically interesting.

Our first weekly discussion question is officially up now!

Week 1 – From the two Directs this year, which game or games would you most like to see an update on at the next Direct?

I'll be posting a new question every week around this time, midnight from Wednesday into Thursday. I have six questions prepared, because TGS starts in six weeks now! Hopefully we'll be seeing our next Nintendo Direct by then :)
Others already mentioned them, but Level-5’s stuff. No Decapolice or Fantasy Life in the June direct was disappointing. Makes me think we aren’t gonna see much out of Layton.

Should see them all in some capacity due to TGS at least.

In terms of Switch releases, 2024 will most likely be remasters and ports, Switch 2 will have the bulk of new releases i'd imagine. Question is, will new games next year be released on Switch and then have patches to upgrade them on S2 or will they be genuine Switch 2 exclusives?

Back again already. Hopefully this will have some good updates and fill in with lots of third party stuff. The way things are going, the end of the year/beginning of next year could be Raccoon’s old shit year.

Also, for every post you make here, you need to make a concurrent post in the General STs (say this selfishly since I am hosting next months)

Hoping Prime 4 doesn't show up. That game deserves a Switch 2 reveal, and to "feel" like a Switch 2 game, even if it's cross-gen. Metroid Prime games actually do depend on their visuals, so it's one of the rare Nintendo games where it matters.

It has been a dream year so far anyway, I don't particularly need this to be a good Direct.

Any two of the following would be more than enough for me (and frankly I'd be happy with just one):
MP 2 HD
Fire Emblem Remake (any old fire emblem, but I guess genealogy is the rumour)
F-Zero GX
New Donkey Kong

I don't expect any new game reveals though - at this point I just don't see why you wouldn't hold them for the Swich 2 reveal, which should be June next year at the very latest.

Peach isn't a remasters ;)

Switch continues to sell well. Gamers are very active. No reason for Nintendo to abandon Switch :) Unpopular opinion : I can see the Switch 2 coming out in 2025.

I’m on team underwater for next 3D Zelda, but what if…. we already get underwater for TotK DLC?

They just flood the entire overworld map, making the sky islands the default surface. Then they add new Zonai devices where we can make sick underwater vehicles that moves fast and nimble, like dolphins.
It's all fun and games until they give us iron boots back as an item that need to be equipped from the Inventory Screen

You cannot hurt me with that sentence.

I was there in 1998. I played OoT on N64.

Not only that, the PAL version, even.

Full confrontal shock therapy of shit ass performance and menu-based boots swapping.

Nothing can scare me anymore.

There will be something announced, like that rumored Fire Emblem remake, but I think that it is safe to say that it will be more 3rd party focused this time. It probably depends on how many ports Nintendo has in the chamber.

Funny enough, (aside from 3DS touch screen button) it seems like the one lesson they didn't learn next to a mountain of thousands of lessons learned in botw/totk, which the complaints about inventory/armor management lol

the septembre Direct will problaby focus on Super Mario Bros Wonder, Super Mario RPG remake, the Peach game, Luigi Mansion Dark Moon remaster, maybe a shadow drop of Metroid Prime 2/3 HD, the final Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC, the second part of the Splatoon 3 expansion, hopefully a teaser for MP4, DLC for Tears of the Kingdom

Yeah, I keep forgetting about the long rumored zelda ports, plus yoshis woolly world could be a good slot filler

Well, the big, and in this case big means MASSIVE, difference is ...

BotW/TotK menus are fast.

OoT PAL N64 menus were eShop-scrolling-for-some-time-level of slow.

I see 2018, 2019 and 2022 had E3 directs in June and Sept directs. Still I'm not sure about this one. Of course I hope I'm wrong, we will see!

September directs are always more focused on announced titles and 3rd party, so lower expectations are probably the right call.

Next year’s February direct is the one I’m really interested in. Those tend to be focused on new announcements, but it’s hard to justify a presentation like that with new hardware likely being revealed a few months later. Makes me wonder if they’ll have more announcements this time around to compensate.

I feel this will be the last big Nintendo Direct, the one with a lot of reveals in the wait of the next hardware presentation. Princess Peach game, super Mario Wonder, Metroid Prime 4, the rumored FE remake and whatever else is in store for 2024 could easily make an appearence. But tbf, I have great expectations from third parties. Silksong, DQ III, New Layton game could easily steal the show for me.

The Peach game can definitely skip this direct. Nintendo does that a lot. Announce in one direct then the game skips the next direct. We may not see it until the February direct.

Fire Emblem remake I think has a VERY high chance of now being announced.

With Mario Wonder and Super Mario RPG coming I don’t see Nintendo revealing a new

Surprised to see so many people thinking DK is off the table due to the Mario games. Feel like the last direct kinda shows that Nintendo doesn’t really care about that. He had a huge role in the movies too, so they might wanna continue riding that wave.

FE4 Remake is a good call though, blanked on that one. Seems pretty likely.
i could see a new Donkey Kong game on Switch, but in 2024, Nintendo will problaby want to tie this new Donkey Kong game, with the Donkey Kong expansion that open next year on Super Nintendo World

Excellent thread @xghost777 ! Can't wait to have my feelings hurt by Ninty once more 🤗

Quoting myself from the General Thread for both my prediction on air date and the Gamecube shadowdrop:
F-Zero GX and TTYD seem to be the popular belief for the next Gamecube shadowdrop during the September Direct...but has anyone considered Luigi's Mansion?

LM2 is scheduled for early 2024, so it makes sense to get the first game on Switch before the sequel. The game originally launched in Japan on September 14, 2001 (a Thursday this year), and it's been almost five years as of October when it was re-released on 3DS. It may be way too early in the morning at 1:15am for such a pivot in thinking, but this hit me like a ton of bricks. It makes too much sense to be the de facto Halloween game when we don't have Bayonetta nor any other series remotely spooky/horror from Nintendo.
Nintendo loves their anniversaries, and this year marks ten years since the Year of Luigi. I think F-Zero and PM are locks in the future, but with LM2:DM getting a Switch port early next year, they'll want the first game out before then, and with Luigi's Mansion 1 having its anniversary date on a Thursday pre-TGS, I'm almost willing to commit to an avatar bet lol

My bad! :( In all seriousness, I want the Legends series to be given justice and to finally get to play three.

Legends 3 was the reason I purchased a 3DS and was disappointed that the demo was never released…
I want the mobile games, for phones, as a part of the collection along with the Legends 3 prototype.

I feel like next month’s Direct is going to indicate whether or not the next hardware is coming out in early, mid or late 2024. If there are like, 3 or more high-profile game announcements, the new hardware is definitely Late 2024. If the Direct is mostly just updates on games we already know, I bet the hardware is earlier in the year.

Here’s what I THINK we’re gonna get, as well as what I think my impressions of each one is going to be.

1) a title and actual trailer for the Peach game

“You know, that looks pretty interesting for a game that definitely isn’t for me”

2) overview for Mario RPG

“Yup, that’s definitely that Super Nintendo game”

3) new trailer for Super Mario Bros Wonder

“those genius mfers in Kyoto continue to not miss. GOTY contender”

4) Metroid Prime 4 re-re-re-reveal trailer, followed up by “Metroid Prime 2 available later today, Metroid Prime 3 will be available in November/December.” I’ll even go so far as to guess: Prime 2 and 3 will get a 2-on-1-cartridge physical release at the same time Prime 3 is out.

“It’s cool that Nintendo is giving Metroid this giant push lately. Bummer the sales aren’t higher than they are.”

5) At least one other GameCube port (Thousand Year Door? F-Zero GX?)

“I am old enough and nostalgia-fueled enough that I just want to play the games I already know I love, and every time Nintendo ports a GameCube title I will buy it sight-unseen.”

Considering that Nintendo didn’t time any sort of release with the opening of Super Nintendo World or the Mario Movie, I really don’t think it matters to them. If anything, they’d want DK to come out first to build more hype for the theme park, no?

That DK theme park expansion in Japan is probably gonna open early next year to have it operating before the busier summer season. So my expectations of a new entry dropping in time for it are pretty low. Best scenario is they announce a new game and then drop DKCR HD on eshop early if they want a game available before it opens.

They’re not announcing a new DK game with Mario Wonder releasing in a few months. It’ll be announced next year and the ride opens up next year too.

'Praedico ergo sum' - René Descartes reflecting on the self, while pondering the contents of the 1641 September Direct

The next direct was January 1642

Honestly, this is the first time I don't even feel like checking into this thread. We've gotten a September Direct for what, 6 years now? The only time they didn't do it was during COVID's first year and even then we got a Partner showcase and Mario's 35th.
Mario's releasing in October, Wario's in November, so the only question is WHEN in September? I'm feeling the first week, personally.

As for what I'd like? Well, I'd prefer a Prime Trilogy but that ship has sailed and we're either getting an Echoes Remaster later or 2 later games HDified sooner, which are both not ideal for me (I'd prefer a Remaster of 2 sooner, since I feel like it's a game with best art direction of the 3). Since I'm a bit grumpy on that front, maybe we'll get a Metroid Prime 4 thing?

Would be cool to see more about that Peach game, too.

Assuming the next gen launch is the final third of 2024 for Nintendo, then there's still a lot of space between Super Mario RPG and any hardware launch for Nintendo to fill. There isn't a point where they can rest on their laurels, given Switch hardware will keep declining in the next financial year, so they're going to need to keep software out and existing software selling. Thing is, I'm not sure when they'll announce much of that stuff, because I'd expect a February Direct to happen as normal to essentially confirm the first half of 2024 and to be the last Direct focused on the current Switch.

It's an odd one. Lots of potential things could show, but I'm probably more interested in seeing DLC plans for Zelda and finding out a genre and some actual information about the Princess Peach game. It'd be great to see Prime 4 finally be a real thing, too.

The Donkey Kong coaster at Epic Universe Orlando opens in 2025, so technically they got a year window to release a new game in time for the ride.

Do people want dlc for TOTK or just expect dlc for it?

This is similar to what I'm thinking. If the new console arrives in the 2nd half of next year then that would probably imply it's showcase would happen around the usual June Direct spot. Meaning September and February would be our last Directs of the Switch era before the focus changes.

With that in mind I can see Nintendo playing things close to their chest in September given they wouldn't want to reveal software that far out with Switch 2 on the horizon. I could see September largely focusing on this holiday while detailing Q1 with possibly LM2 or Peach in that quarter, and then February's Direct covering April through July/August.

Another Fire Emblem ?! One was released this year....

A remake of Genealogy has been heavily rumored for over a year. Also, Engage was finished in 2021. Nintendo just waited to release it.

Personally, I am fine with getting a Fire Emblem ever couple of years and we had to wait four years from Three Houses to Engage so this is catching up.

BotW DLC ended about nine months after its release. I think TotK DLC is still on the table but it'd have to show up in the coming Direct, February is way too late
