StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

Sometimes when fans start to freak out doom and gloom, that’s when insiders and leakers and journalist reveal something they know about the company or new hidden products… so maybe we’ll learn something soon via that if the Q&A doesn’t shed any light or encourage us in any way.

Nintendo have a clear window for a big launch this holiday/early next year - no new hardware from Sony/Microsoft beyond a revision of PS5... getting into holiday next year we're potentially looking at launching against a PS5 Pro which would obviously split people's money in these times of price gouging corporations artificially inflating prices.

So i guess they gave the usual non-answers about anything new/updated/whatever hardware (something everyone here should've and hopefully has expected!) and reports are drawing their own conclucions again, and we're back to be better off waiting for the official translations, right?

we truly are in his world

Btw. ... i can't be the only one who sees Grumpy Cat in this guy? Please tell me i'm not.

The following sentence is in the Japanese version of Bloomberg report of the latest Nintendo earnings, but not in the English version:

また現時点でハードの価格改定の予定はなく、次世代機については「常に新しいハードの開発は進めているが、この場で申し上げることはない」と述べた。

Machine translation with my edits: He also stated that presently there is no plan to revise the hardware prices, and regarding the next-gen console, "we are constantly developing new hardware, but I have nothing to announce at this time".

A scenario with no price drop + new hardware this H2 does make 15M sound like a tough number to hit for the base Switch.

Slowly conceding to 2024+ and I farkin hate this timeline.

It would be impossible for them to hit the 15M and have any hardware for this holiday or early spring.

Impossible.

I think Furukawa did not say that there will be no next generation hardware in this fiscal year.
Japanese media reported the following
古川社長は「(スイッチが)すべての欲しい人の手に既に行き渡ったとは捉えていない」と話し、2台目や新規の需要も創出するという。後続機については「常に新しいハードウェアの開発を進めている」と述べるにとどめた。
Edit: The same information was already posted lol.

That’s a big difference from last year when they said there would be no hardware announcement this year (2022).

Which system was it that was shown off a few weeks after they said something similar? DS? 3DS? I don’t remember,

this is nothing new, why is everyone freaking out again?

15 million sales expectation... but no price drop... and no hardware revisions...

This can only mean one thing, really. They're finally adding Netflix.

Call me a Copium junky or whatever, but I'm still banking on 2023. I'm not forgetting Nintendo's previous comments on a "smooth transition" and neither should the lot of you. While Nintendo has made baffling decisions before, I genuinely do not believe that they would play around with the potential of their future hardware. The only way I can see them riding out the Switch is if they were stuck in a position to do so if new hardware isn't ready. You cannot convince that something isn't going on with that seemingly barren 2H schedule and their frankly insane sales forecast at this point in the Switch's life. I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna change my mind just because this report is business as usual. At least wait for the Q&A before making such hasty statements. I don't wanna come off as rude, but as someone who has only been here for five months, the constant volatile reactions to anything negative is starting to wear on me.

Nintendo has had a slide for their upcoming first party launch schedule in each of their Fiscal Year Earnings Release presentations since fiscal year 2020. I took some quick screenshots of the table in each one for the sake of comparison (you might have to open the first two images in a separate tab to see the lists more clearly):

12-15 million seems reasonable and big for that late in the lifecycle. One more good last year and then a a successor. I’m fine with that.

seems like everyone is reporting different things were said. Its best to wait for the offical Q&A at this point, mistranslations have happened in the past
It’s right here from VGC.

Speaking on a call after the results, president Shuntaro Furukawa reportedly suggested that amid slowing console sales, Nintendo isn’t completely confident in hitting its next 15 million target. It also won’t release new hardware before March 31, 2024, he said.

So business as usual?

I’m increasingly not seeing a cross Gen. period for Switch or an increasingly short one as Nintendo will probably want to move over to switch 2 as soon as possible

VGC is reporting that Nintendo says no new hardware is coming in the next 12 months.

But their own article only says:

The only mention of no new hardware is from analysts. Is there another quote I’m missing?
You're not missing anything, but caught another instance of VGC untruthful reporting (using the term loosely). I wrote about their shoddy translations, exaggerated characterizations, and downright misinformation many times. Sadly, the MO has been working out very well for them—too well actually, as their articles are often taken as fact and widely redistributed.

Just recently they claimed that the Japanese script of the Super Mario Bros. Movie was "unique" and "independently" developed. That is categorically untrue. Miyamoto only said that some jokes were localized so that the humor wouldn't get lost in translation. But since VGC said so, other writers and streamers simply regurgitated it in the west.

And who could forget that they fell for the WaddleDeeKnows hoax? Good times.

Feel now like Metroid Prime 4 is going to definitely be out before Switch 2 unless they plan on dropping Prime 2 and 3 over the next 12 months or so.

Yeah I don't think a cross gen period is guaranteed at all. At best some games might get a Game Boy/Game Boy Color style treatment.

But by 2024 Nintendo will be ready to move on from Switch 1. Get your Switch 2 and 3D Mario, throw your old one in the trash, stay locked in our new ecosystem or no Splatoon 4 for you.

EDIT: What is going on with post formatting

as long as it's BC I'm fine

Read the article again, plus read the other stuff, we arent posting them for nothing.😵‍💫

VGC says this by themselves or sone analysts, but the Nintendo CEO only mention new hardware is not in that forecast included.

Literally fuck these clickbaiters like VGC etc.
I’m not gonna read pages upon pages of posts here. I saw someone posts this in another topic. I’m glad to know they straight up lied for clicks. Absolute trash ass company.

BC is all it needs. Current owners and even people buying this late know there's a risk of a new console on the horizon.

Damn. I just don’t see how we don’t get a June Direct with it being this barren.

I just dont get it. Why would Drake finish in 2022 and not be in a commercial product before 2024 earliest? To me it indicates things have been very bumpy behind the scenes.

Man, even Furukawa isn’t confident that they can hit 15 million this year. I really hope them waiting so long on Switch 2 doesn’t end up biting them in the ass. Switch is long in the tooth, it’s time.

I can only assume that their hardware and software pipeline were bombarded by Covid if we aren't seeing this thing for a whole nother year.

COVID has definitely impacted Switch 2's timing, no two ways about it. If it wasn't for COVID I'm positive it would be on store shelves this November.

Will be interesting to see what software they release to buy time until it's ready.

If I’m nintendo I’m announcing the Switch 2 this year (switch sales for this holiday isn’t that big of deal to worry about the hit. It’s already slowing down). And have Switch 2 by March 2024.

It’ll be a good transition.

I don't see how Nintendo is repeating the same mistake as with the Wii-Wii U transition unless you believe the release timing was wrong and not the lack of (mass market) appealing software back then.
I don't think releasing even earlier would have saved it. Heck it released a year BEFORE the other consoles

Thanks for the screenshots. I was going to comment on the same thing. The barren launch schedule is not normal.

Totally this. I can see 15M just if the new console will release in march 2024 by the end of the fiscal year.
