It’s pretty clear the dramatic inflation we’ve had over the past two years is making even the parties who were initially hesitant to jump on board the $69.99 next-gen game pricing train, like Ubisoft, reconsider.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Nintendo follows suit with the enhanced games that are released alongside or after their new hardware. Not every game – we’ve seen them explore variable games pricing on the Switch, and I think they’ll continue to do so – but stuff like TotK? Yeah, I’m expecting $69.99 and I’ll be pleasantly surprised if it’s $59.99. And I’m sure that will totally doom the new Switch just like the $299.99 launch price and $79.99 Joy-con pairs doomed the last one.

I’d start, like, mentally preparing for that now. Inflation is no joke. And $69.99 is honestly not as bad as it could be: Nintendo started releasing $59.99 discs with the Wii U in 2012 and adjusted for inflation that’s over $77 now, and will only be higher next year.
Preorders have been up for Breath of the Wild 2 for a long time and have been set at $60 so we are safe there. Best Buy changed the name even on their listing and it is still $60.

Konami finally announced the winner of their indie game contest! The grand prize finalist game could go forward and be polished and published by Konami digitally (and I imagine due to a notable dev being involved it will be).

So do we think we know Nintendo's completely lineup for the remainder of the year or do you think Nintendo will pull a Super Mario All-Stars and announced something later this month or October and drop it a few weeks later (ie: Zelda HD Remasters, Metroid Prime Remasters)?
Oddly, despite the many suggestions of 2022 being 'stacked', this is the second lowest number of Nintendo releases on Switch after 2017. We're several games short of 2018 through 2021's totals.

There are some obvious explanations, like no ports, no Labo kits, fewer regional releases, only one eShop only game, and Advance Wars and potentially the 1-2 Switch sequel were pulled from the schedule. It's not like Nintendo need to hit a quota, and they're fine I suspect when it comes to big hits (Kirby and Switch Sports both got off to strong starts, Splatoon 3 has absolutely smashed it in Japan and is likely doing well internationally).

That being said, Nintendo have finished re-releases of early 2000s classics (Advance Wars and Prime) just waiting for release, so maybe. Advance Wars is likelier, I think, perhaps for a quiet December release. Alternatively, some mad eShop game(s) would be great fun and could come out of nowhere. I want the Tingle franchise to continue, somehow, and the eShop is the place for forbidden videogames such as that.

the irony of old shit year discourse resolving with a slightly anemic year because of the near absence of old shit is not lost on me

I still think you being vaguely prophetic with the many more remasters and remakes rumor popping up is still very amusing.

I sensed the changing tides

these days I think it's a good strategy, though. it's all part of Nintendo's future-proofing strategy

I caved and bought NSO Expansion Pak. The announcement of the old Mario Partys + replaying Paper Mario got me good.

Even though I'm not part of the staff, I've worked closely with them to continue improving this site. For example, I worked with Bellydrum to implement the Famifeed News ticker at the bottom of the site.

Other site features that I'm exploring with the staff, but nothing is set in stone or guaranteed:

Countdown ticker:
  • A ticker that counts down to major game releases (Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Zelda) or major events (Nintendo Directs, The Game Awards)

Video streaming:
  • We're exploring ideas and features related to video content or streaming live events (Nintendo Directs).

Fun game-y ideas:
  • Pokedex feature: Famiboard members can collect Pokemon.
  • Sticker book feature: Famiboard members can collect stickers of Nintendo characters.

Shop feature:
  • Earn fake money (FamiGold?) by being an active member and redeem really cool digital prizes.

Some ideas might happen, other ideas likely won't. We're weighing the pros and cons of each idea before fully committing to anything. The point is, we're looking for ways to make this site more fun and enjoyable. It's important that this site never becomes stagnant or boring. :)

The game ideas sound fun and the countdown ticker would be very useful! Looking forward to seeing what comes next for Fami :)

Hey nice, I did that way back in 2007 (so thanks for making me feel old /s), when he started I couldn't believe he was actually going to do it, it was amazing.
I couldn't believe it while he was in the middle of doing it.
And he actually made it longer. Albuquerque. Longer. During the donut part he just kept going on and on naming all sorts of donuts. He started making up donuts, just to keep it going on and on. It was amazingly insane. And at the end where the album version does the "I lost my train of thought, anyway.." part, he instead completely trailed off, had the band stop playing, then told the audience "sorry guys, we gotta start over."

AND THEN THEY SERIOUSLY STARTED OVER.

He's a mad, mad genius.

OMG that's amazing, id love to see him again.

Holy shit that sounds amazing. I want to have a mind that can dream up donuts on command.

Excellent, now I can feel better about forum-browsing instead of gaming. Because now forum-browsing IS gaming.

Next year will be Miyamoto year

Zelda TotK
Pikmin 4
New Mario 2D/3D
New Star Fox
New Nintendogs
F-Zero GX remaster

All their babies getting new games.
Star Fox is in a bad spot. Miyamoto's the only one who wants to keep making Star Fox games within Nintendo but, judging by Zero, giving him control over a new one is probably a bad idea.

Pokemon collecting here on the forum? You better have Scizor when you launch this.

This man here needs his Scizor!

  • Sticker book feature: Famiboard members can collect stickers of Nintendo characters.

omg, it's (maybe going to be) back

I can't believe we are halfway through the month! I have time tonight so I wanted to answer Round 2 of the Thread Game questions.

Question 1: What is your favorite anime and/or cartoons and why? Share the OPs if you want!

My all time favorite anime are Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Symphogear! Madoka is super densely crafted and makes the absolute most of its 12 episodes. It's a perfect tragedy with amazing and haunting imagery and I love the main cast of six so much. Every time I watch it I find something new to appreciate which is awesome. As for Yu Yu Hakusho, I first saw it airing on Toonami and it was my favorite anime growing up. The main cast of four are awesome and the perfect team with so many cool powers and techniques between them. While the last arc is weak, the middle of the show with the Dark Tournament and Chapter Black arcs is so strong it carries the whole thing. Finally, Symphogear is incredible. It's an awesome magical girl battle show where the characters sing while they fight and its whole purpose is to be as over the top awesome and wildly entertaining as possible. I love the characters, the action, and the music so much and it just keeps getting better as it goes. To not flood this page with too much anime I'll throw the OPs and a clip behind a spoiler tag:

My all time favorite anime, Madoka Magica. The OP has some magical girl nudity in it for a transformation scene and one other odd bit that doesn't really reflect the show at all, so don't watch this at work! ClariS is my favorite musical group incidentally! (Couldn't find an official upload for this one :/)

Yu Yu Hakusho, I grew up watching the English dub so I love the English OP!

I picked the fifth season's OP for Symphogear since I love the song a lot!

Also I'd be remiss if I didn't share the clip of Symphogear I saw that got me into the show. I feel like you'll know 100% either way if the show is for you or not after seeing it. Maybe one bit is NSFW? Mostly just gonzo action here.

Question 2: Take one of your favorite anime or cartoons and design a game around it and/or vice versa by taking one of your favorite games and tell us how you want it adapted into an anime, cartoon, or movie. If you have an idea for a sequel or spin off adaption that’s cool too!

For Madoka, I'd love to see a console version of the the Magia Record mobile game. The structure of the universe is very game-like and Magia Record makes it even easier to work with and has plenty of areas ideal to flesh out. I'd imagine you go to school, hang out with friends around town and in Mikazuki Villa, and then take on witches, uwasa, and the Wings of the Magius at night. Yu Yu Hakusho had a fun GBA game I played, but if I were to make a console game I'd make an original story where you invade a demon realm of some kind and have to storm castles and fight big bosses kind of like the first arc where Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei team up. You could swap between characters as you played. For Symphogear, I'd make it an Asura's Wrath-like game. I feel like that's the only way to truly capture the full spectacle of Symphogear.

I know that this isn't exactly a popular opinion but i vastly prefer how offline looks. DQ X definitely looks liked an mmo that shipped on wii and was later up-ported left and right, while Oflline goes for that chibi-retro-3DS look but more modern (more post-processing for example), and its geometry, rendering all look a notch above the original release.
Meaning... SE bring it over! (I still think and hope they will)

I like the chibi look too.

I hope they keep supporting it and add the rest of the expansions to it, and yeah I hope they release it internationally. It feels like it’ll be a while for DQ XII yet, and a Builders 3 doesn’t seem like it’s on the horizon, so why not?

I don't mind chibi per se, certainly not in DQ, I just don't think it's very well implemented here. Offline has more modern effects but is still rather low-poly and is lacking in visual polish (see for example how characters and enemies "teleport" in battles). They put in a lot of work to make it look better than Online in some ways and worse in others. But of course, different strokes and all that.

I actually completely agree with the bolded, though as a whole i find the style well executed. And yeah as always not everyone is going to find the same thing as pleasing and all that.

Yesterday I dreamed about a new DK game.

Was a combination of Bowser Fury open structure working as a big hub but with 3D World levels that you can get inside through doors.

Would the concept work?

Waking up this morning and seeing an online acquainance who's really big into Suikoden being absolutely over the moon at the TGS announcement made my day. So happy that fandom is eating with the HD remasters + Eiyuden Chronicles (which is looking really good!).

Konami please get SotN on Switch and a Parodius collection please

Also making my day is watching people online squabbling over the PS4 port of Resident Evil 4 😂

Not making my day is realizing I have family visiting the weekend of the upcoming Splatfest

@shoptroll Would love to see these games happening one day as well! Konami, like a few other companies, are seemingly slowly realizing that they're sitting on a ginormous goldmine of timeless quality content.

Wonder if we’ll get more info on Neo geo pocket color selection Vol 2 this weekend

Also, Konami give us a Goemon collection next with every game

Random dumb but totally Nintendo thought: No Metroid Prime Anniversary Edition for November, but it totally comes out in February to coincide with the Japanese launch (and to give Retro another 4-5 months to produce something showable for Prime 4).

That was just mean 😂

Oh well, at least the DS version still exists if it's not good.

When I saw "80 Tiers" my eyes rolled into the back of my head so hard they almost ended up in my mouth. And you need to hit Tier 55 to get the character unlock if you're not paying money.

Fuck off with that noise. I'll take gacha over this battle pass nonsense if I absolutely have to, and even then I've had my fill of gacha games.

EDIT:

Oh look, another day another Square-Enix published game coming to Switch

Was waiting for this. Gyro will work wonders for this one. Might even get it on my SD as well.

For everything announced this week, this has to be one of the best TGS's of all time.
Yup, I’ve not been disappointed yet.

Ok, Square ignoring reality and sticking to PS5 exclusivity for XVI is a touch disappointing but I’m not ruling out a PS4 announcement in Q1 so they don’t embarrass themselves in Japan.

With development costs increasing each gen, i wonder how long Sony can afford this buying out third party AAA games as exclusives.

At one point, the money they can offer have to be less than just doing marketing yourself and release on every possible platform to grab every possible revenue stream.

Yea their model isn’t sustainable and I suspect this is why Sony increasingly moving to using their internal game studios as an incubator for movie ideas 😄

Also, I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if the explosion in S-E AA output this year is to offset whatever losses they’re taking on XVI, KH4, and Rebuild of Final Fantasy VII development

Absolutely amazed Konami decided to remaster Suikoden 1/2. I was certain they would do nothing and it may just end up on PS Plus Premium. This is welcome news to wake up to.

I already have Like a Dragon Ishin, Gaiden and Resident Evil 4 as PS4 games, so I can live without FF XVI.

On the Switch… that’s going to be tough. There is still stuff I want and the list keeps growing. I know it’s peanuts compared to other people here, but I have like 42 Switch games and that’s still growing

There would be an unholy amount of salt across the internet if that happened. A lot of people are begging for cross-gen to die.

This is probably one of the reasons why Sony is investing heavily into their own GAAS games. They see the money that Fortnite, CoD, and others bring in and they want a bigger piece of the pie.

The only question is will the investment pay off?

With how much they're trying to fight back MS Activision aquisition, i feel like they're not fully convinced as of now.

Third party Gass games like COD are important to Sony because they basically get a whole lot of money with minimal investment. They get 30% of the cut while Activision does all the work building and updating the actual games. If COD suddenly was only on Microsoft systems, that's a huge chunk of revenue lost to Sony.

I think I’m going to paint this father son duo today while watching some anime

IMG_5809.jpg

Not sure what. Been meaning to check out the world of Fate tho

Playing through crysis 2 at the moment on a switch lite. Amazing they can get games like this running on the Switch (I know it’s an older game), and it looks good!

Never played the Crysis 2 and 3 until earlier this year (also on Switch). Not gonna lie; I was flabbergasted by how good they looked.

I don't think MS will put CoD exclusively on Xbox and PC for quite a few years even after the aquisition.

But i do think that it's a bad look for Sony if they a) lose the marketing deals and b) have a fat 70$ / 80€ price tag on their version next to "Day 1 on Gamepass" on MS systems and PC.

Absolutely. There is no other franchise that currently appears on PlayStation where you are guaranteed 10m+ sales annually with waves of DLC and microtransactions like no other.

FWIW, I think CoD is safe on PlayStation for the rest of this gen. If Microsoft really wants to go for the power play, they will do it to start the next gen.

There would be an unholy amount of salt across the internet if that happened. A lot of people are begging for cross-gen to die.
Meanwhile people in Japan are begging for it to happen so they can actually play it 😄

The big question is if it will be more salt than when XIII had to go to XBox 360 because PS3 numbers outside Japan were not great at the time.

Agreed. The “preferred platform” deal usually goes down at the start of each generation and that has flipped hands twice now. So it’s the natural time for that to happen.
