If you don’t mind me asking: how long we talking? I have been extremely lucky and haven’t gotten Covid yet (I say yet because I feel like it’s simply a matter of time until I do) but every time I hear about Long Covid I get genuinely pretty scared about it.

In any case: I do hope you feel better soon.
It's been roughly 2 1/3 months for me since first testing positive. My symptoms at the time were pretty mild, but I've struggled to get back to 100%/the pre covid status quo ever since. Fatigue, generally less stamina/short-windedness, my lung not being as well as before, even my sleep issues/increasingly frequent insomnia as of late might be related to Covid still kicking my ass, is what my doc told me (and people around me tell me similar stuff/have made similar experiences).

It's not like it's ... super dramatic stuff or anything in isolation, I'd say at least, but it's overall exhausting, takes away quality of living. Kinda saps your energy and just overall well being in the long run, especially when these things come together. I'm sure there are people worse off than me, so I don't really feel like complaining too much, but it's seriously been adding up as of late. Work related stuff's doing the rest.

Doc told me that I might get better still mid to long term, but more than two months supposedly doesn't bode all that well.

I’m sorry. I hope your symptoms subside and you can get back to normal soon!

Take all the time you need! It does get crazy here sometimes for sure. Just don’t be gone too long - we need to hear that original Famiboards song!
Oh don’t worry… you’ll hear it as soon as it’s ready! ;)

You ever act like you don’t know why you’re tired when you know perfectly well it’s because you stayed up til 4:30AM playing video games

I mean Long Covid is going to be a disaster for the world, especially America with how frequently people go bankrupt from medical bills. Millions of people just getting neurological and/or autoimmune issues. Not to mention potential lung and heart issues.

And governments just don't care but they better cause it's going to get real bad. Mind you we have no clue what potential other long term issues may pop up. Plenty of viruses come back with something else 10,20, 30 years down the line like chicken pox and Epstien-Barr virus.

It's september 15th, I'm genetically obligated to put a mexican celebratory picture for the independence day and update my avatar for the real hero of neo mexico, the tequila gundam

Cross-posting from the Metroid ST, some valuable context on Retro's activity from Nate:

I wonder if this means most of Retro's team was hard at work on MP HD and only fully shifted over to Prime 4 mid last year, if Prime 4 was the focus while work on Prime HD was finished off...basically just what the team distribution was for both of these projects while Prime HD was in development.

Traveling across the border to listen to Germans complain about how much Switzerland sucks is, unironically, one of my favourite moments as a journalist.

(I.e. Splatoon 2 level designers with 2D Mario experience not working on Splatoon 3)
You know, given the big single player DLC slated for Splatoon next year, what if that's what those level designers are working on? I mean, it could be the next 2D Mario, but it could also be Splatoon DLC...

I would assume the Splatoon DLC has a smaller subset of the Splatoon 3 team working on it - that would more sense, to me at least? More continuity with what's been achieved in the base game and clearer decision-making about what to do next. It might be the existing team already had ideas about what they'd want to do next. Generally, that seems to be how Nintendo handle DLC, at least as far as I'd know.

I doubt Prime HD got priority over a new game at a Nintendo subsidiary. Xenoblade Definitive Edition overlapped with the development of XBC 3 (both started at the same time), but the agreement with Nintendo was Monolith Soft had to focus the bulk of resources on XBC3. The relationship with Retro won't be exactly the same, but I think that principle and priority would. Despite starting at the same time and having fewer resources, XBC DE still appeared 2 years before XBC 3.

If I remember rightly, Emily suggested a timeline whereby Retro initially started work with a view to completing a Trilogy remaster, but that was downsized to just the first game because Retro were assigned Prime 4 and Prime 4 was more important.

Like DLC, Remaster / HD version of a title is something you can do with a smaller team while other people are doing the pre-production work on a bigger project.

Any sort of “they didn’t start 4 until they were done with Prime HD” narrative is dumb.

Also I remember Nate saying Retro had help with Prime HD. Whether that's one of Nintendo's assistance studios - NST perhaps - or an external contractor remains to be seen. Could also easily be a mixture of both, given how game development works these days.

Traded in some games to get Splatoon 3 and Pikmin 3 (gave my old copy to a friend). Gamestop store credit is much better than I thought. Really happy right now.

Is 27 dungeons enough? With 8 being required to finish the game but the other 19 being tied to quests or at least giving you unique items or skills?

Regarding the lack of Game Boy NSO in the Direct…I wonder if it’s due to Splatoon 3 presumably getting quietly delayed and switching places with Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Like, had Splatoon 3 released earlier this summer as was probably the original plan, I wonder if we’d have gotten GB NSO announced in the September Direct. As is, it probably doesn’t make much sense for Nintendo to reveal and release it right now when Splatoon 3 just came out, because I’m sure plenty of people just renewed their NSO subscriptions for that, and I’m still expecting GB NSO to be part of the base NSO membership rather than the Expansion Pack, so it would make sense to space it out a bit from the launch of Splatoon 3. I wonder how long we’ll have to wait, though…

Splatoon 3 might have ended up in September because of subscriptions, yeah. That's increasingly what I think. Nintendo's own data showed much bigger spikes for online games driving subs than the addition of new retro consoles. Last year they had multiple things to push subscriptions - Mario Party and Pokemon had online modes, and the Expansion Pack launched with N64, Mega Drive and then AC.

This year, at least right now, it looks like Splatoon 3 will do the heavy lifting (while N64 continues rolling with a multiplayer heavy line up and Pokemon comes along again in November). It's interesting that they launched the Mario Kart DLC - another major selling point for the EP sub - in March of this year. Animal Crossing, as a March release, was a huge driver of subscriptions in 2020, so perhaps Nintendo noticed some subs lapsing around that time of year. Maybe March is the window to look at for further NSO additions.

(Personally I still think the GB and GBA come at the same time as part of the Expansion Pack, though)

I'd say possibly before we get Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Stadium 2 on n64 nso, so Pokémon can be transferred

Mario Party 3 in January
1080 Snowboarding or Excitebike 64 in Febtober

That gets you to March and they can drop Stadium 1 and then Stadium 2 in April and launch GB around the same time with Pokémon in tow.

That’s what I’m hoping…but I’m not so sure that Transfer Pak support is actually going to happen. After all, they still haven’t even supported the Controller Pak, for whatever reason, and emulating the Transfer Pak would surely be more difficult than that… I want to believe that they’ll still do it, and hopefully patch in support for the Controller Pak as well, but I’m gonna be worrying about it until it’s actually confirmed…

They haven’t said anything about which of the new N64 games is landing this month right? Or Genesis for that matter? I feel like that gives them an easy opportunity for a follow up Twitter announcement next week.

I thought there was evidence in the emulator leaks that they have Transfer Pak support?

Nope. In fact there’s a good chance the next n64 game could be announced tonight

Still in awe at Nintendo taking more than 98% of the console hardware market in Japan.

I believe there’s evidence that it appears to have been worked on, or maybe that was just a rumor, but either way that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll actually be utilized. If I’m not mistaken (though I very well could be, ‘cause it’s been awhile since I’ve read up on this stuff), the same is true for the Controller Pak—the emulator partially supports it or something like that, but it still goes unused—so if that’s the case then I wouldn’t be too confident about Transfer Pak support being a sure thing, either. Someone else like @MondoMega would probably be more familiar with the details, though.

Within the emulator config files the string that determines what controller add-on is attached for that particular game has three variable; Rumble Pak, Controller Pak and Transfer Pak. The former is enabled by default for all games (even those that don't support rumble) and obviously works. Controller Pak emulation is mostly functional, except there's no set location for the data to save after a game session ends; an easy fix if they wanted to properly implement it. Transfer Pak is just recognised as being attached, in the public build of the emulator there is no functionality for reading an "inserted" Game Boy save or anything (though you shouldn't rule out the posibility of features like that being scrubbed until they are properly utilised).

As for difficulty of emulation, neither should be particularly complicated with NERD's level of access to hardware documentation, as long as they have the time to implement it properly. Only possible consideration with Transfer Pak would perhaps be disabling restore points while they are in use, if just to avoid any unfortunate data loss or corruption.

Maybe they literally forgot they have a Metroid game ready to go?
I'd look at March as the next suspicious spot on Nintendo's calendar. They've had a release there every year Switch has been on the market and, as a finished game, Prime is a strong candidate. It'd be more or less 20 years on from the international release (February 2003 for Japan, March for Europe, April for Australia).

I assume Nintendo decided the proximity to Pokemon and Mario wasn't helpful, and perhaps they also want to give Bayonetta 3 (between those two games and aiming at an older audience, like Metroid would) a fair shot. Perhaps as a new, long awaited game, Bayonetta 3 gets the priority right now. I know Metroid Dread, just before Mario and Pokemon, did well in a similar window last year, but perhaps Nintendo want a new game to have that opportunity again.

God I hate dating apps. I finally get a match with someone that doesn't ghost me or a Republican and they're already talking about marriage in the second message. We haven't even met yet. Red flags!!!!!

Anyways, I started the Great Ace Attorney and that first case is probably the hardest first case in the entire series. Like geez.

Mine asked me for a hookup the first message. Bruh.

If Metroid Prime HD still manages to slide into this FY (looking pretty unlikely now but we'll see) it'd have to be revealed for March at TGA; still don't believe this is something they'd just drop on Twitter / YouTube. Hope Advance Wars still has a shot to make this year though; and I guess i'm curious to see Everybody's 1-2-Switch as well.

They could always drop it with a "Development update for Metroid Prime 4 part 2" video.

dons tinfoil hat

Geoff Keighley wants to have Metroid at TGA so much he's compensated Nintendo for the lost holiday season sales and convinced them to delay it to March but announce it at TGA.

Or like the Age of Calamity reveal intorduction with Aonuma; but my thought is that something like that could've just been a segment in the direct. It's pretty much what they did before the Dread reveal last year; short update on Prime 4 then the reveal of another game releasing first.

I think Prime HD's release will be very closely linked to Prime 4 though; so perhaps the whole thing is being held back until they can show an actual teaser for Prime 4 alongside it. Or if we want to entertain every posibility, while the Prime 1 remaster was seemingly completed by Retro last September (per Retro contract staff on LinkedIn) perhaps they have since been waiting on Prime 2 and 3 from whichever studio they decided to outsource to. Anything is possible with Nintendo.

Will I finish XBC3 before Sunbreak Title Update 2?

We'll see.

I... will not. Might buy Splatoon 3 though.

🤡
Well that's pretty much me about to buy Shin Megami Tensei V while still early on Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Doom Eternal and Valkyria Chronicles 😬.

I want some advice here Fami. SMT V is on a sale after long. I've been saving money and buying gift cards so I have ~250 reais on eShop, the game on sale is 166 reais(a full priced Nintendo game is 300, normal price of SMT V is 250). I was longing for this sale to happen but I still can't decide lol. What if all of a sudden Super Mario 3D World or something enters sale? Or maybe I should just put more 50 and buy Xenoblade Chronicles 3 or pre order Fire Emblem? Idk 😭. SMT V is on a really good price, I have the credits and would still have some and golden points, but I still can't decide lol. Just to get this out of me, the game has how many hours of gameplay?(I played 170h of vanilla P5 and it wasn't for a 100%). And is there a "route" system like IV where you can choose good, evil or neutral path?
