In the off chance Nintendo has a midnight announcement, let’s make sure we get to page 700 in the next hour, I have to step away for a bit, but Fami you got this!

Tbh I want BotW2 news so bad but I can live without them. But no FE news again? After they have shown a spin off and not a main title in the last direct? No.

Why would 2D Mario show up in a Mini Direct? Do we understand the magnitude of a brand new 2D Mario broken away from the New series?
I'm kinda just throwing everything out there but yeah, if it were a mini I would imagine 2D Mario would be out

Alright, here are my predictions for Tuesday, left appropriately loose for the circumstances:

  • Style Savvy. I don't think Syn Sophia has moved on from the series.
  • Nintendo Switch Sports Golf. I'm not sure if this will find its way into a Direct of any kind, but I think there's a decent chance they go ahead and talk about it.
  • 2D Mario. I was joking above, but I do think it's coming. It feel pretty confident that it won't be a "New" branded game, but Nintendo could disappoint me.
  • Metroid Prime Remastered. Yeah, I believe the rumors, sue me. Comes with an assuring mention of Metroid Prime 4.
  • Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD. I suspect that these will be separate $40 releases, rather than being bundled together. This is also what I'm hoping for, as I'd much rather get a physical copy of just Wind Waker. Like Metroid, I expect some reassurance about the state of the next game.
  • Those Final Fantasy games people are hoping for. Yeah, I don't follow other publishers too well.
  • Everybody's 1-2 Switch. I know it's thought of as a "blue ocean" sort of game, but I think an online-oriented party game does have a place in a Nintendo Direct, mini or otherwise.
That’s very very close to my predictions!

I do think there’s a chance we could get some sort of Kirby collection/anniversary product, but I also admit that could just be wishful thinking. And I also expect GB/C and GBA/NSO.

So, yeah, I expect a very “classics” focused presentation. So maybe I can see why they’d want to call it a Mini, especially if it ends up being short. But NSMB3 is big enough to make it a regular Direct, I think.

I know people are expecting the new Fire Emblem, but I think they’re more likely to try to hype people up for FEW DLC if anything. Maybe FE gets announced in their Q1 Direct, like Xenoblade 3 did.

Actually yes. I love 2D Mario more than 3D. I just mean the rest of it. Would be better to have just made this all Twitter drops with more focus on each announcement over the next month.
ah I see, more like a nice cheese sandwich on shit bread

No, no , no. Don't tell me we're going back to doomposting again. I thought we were all in hype mode. Seriously, I myself believe in it being a big juicy direct.
We have to latch on to only the negative things (or interpret things as negatives even though we don’t really know anything). It’s just part of the cycle and that cycle condenses as we get closer to the supposed direct.

I hope that if it’s a general it will air at 6 pm CEST.
I have an appointment to the dentist at 2:30 PM 😭 I booked it because I thought the direct would be in the evening like always

I was genuinely expecting the OG Switch to be discontinued and the OLED to be price-dropped into being the new de facto base model, while Drake takes the OLED's spot as the premium model.

But

Based on the way these things are all still selling, I really dunno anymore..
Yeah, I’d love it for the OLED to replace the standard Switch, but could see Nintendo discontinuing the OLED while keeping the 6.2” LCD Switch around as the base hybrid model. Potentially at the same price!

That 6.2” LCD Switch has to be just cheap as chips for them at this point. But the OLED is so much nicer. I think the thing that makes me lean toward the OLED being the survivor is the new dock potentially being the same dock that the new Switch uses.

Well it's quite late in my time zone, so I need to go to bed. I very well may sleep through the announcement, and therefore the closure of this thread. It's been quite the ride. I thank everyone for their vigorous participation and hope that you all had more fun than not-fun.

Someone in the Snitch discord who works in Games Media just said the next Direct is a partner, if someone else is in there they can also verify this claim tho don't feel comfortable sharing screenshots even tho its a public Discord.

So I wonder if this person was covering his track then...

The emotional rollercoaster this thread has gone through over the last week would break a normal person’s neck, it’s a good thing Nintendo fans feed on the endless cycle of hype and anxiety.

@Rareware I really don't know the contents of the Direct. I know when it's scheduled, but I don't have any intel on what's actually being shown.

That’s fair. Thanks for saying so. Looking forward to tomorrow regardless if Metroid ends up being there or not, but it’s certainly my most hoped for. So fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Regardless of what type of Direct we get, we will get some sort of news on some game that someone will be stoked about.

And remember, the last mini partner showcase was a lot better than a lot of people expected.

a partner showcase on tuesday would be absolutely beyond based

nintendo would be screaming "fuck you preorder pokemon"

A mini-direct is even that bad, honestly, it's better for them to focus on 2023 titles within 2023, Nintendo's first party this year was planned months ahead of June so it really wasn't needed for them to do a general Direct. Im team Feb 2023, tho November could also happen they did couple of them in that timeframe.

Spoilering this in case you don't want to know what's supposedly on the horizon:
  • Same basic form factor, possibly even going as far as using the OLED dock (since there are some ventilation-related things in it that don't seem to be utilized by any current Switch chassis, it's possibly futureproofed for the upcoming Switch)
  • A bonkers leap in power thanks to a new chip that's around PS4ish levels (more or less depending on clock speeds, but what was leaked of the chip by the Nvidia hack confirms we're around that ballpark)
  • Nvidia's DLSS upscaling is built in, taking that "PS4 level" up to 4K
  • More than likely a strong backwards-compatibility solution so games compiled for "regular-Switch" will still play nice with "super-Switch" chip
  • Essentially "still a Switch" that plays old/current Switch games but futureproofed to handle a whole lot more
I've heard of most of that stuff before, but the backwards compatibility info is new to me. Has this been leaked/rumored somewhere or is it just common sense? I listened to a Nate/MVG discussion where MVG made it sound like backwards compatibility isn't guaranteed with a new architecture, meaning there'd have to be a software or hardware solution for it.

Well it it does end up being a Mini I'm still hoping FE shows up, but it does become a lot less likely. But hey, Minis have been pretty good on the weeb front anyways so I'll still probably get something interesting

And at least this month I've already gotten some hype looks at my most anticipated games for the rest of the year. And FE and BoTW2 exist, they have to be shown eventually

If we're going to baselessly get worked up about a timeslot, it would be much funnier and more fun to instead note that the only non-game specific Directs that happen on Tuesday are the E3 Directs, and they also happen in the morning PDT, and therefore conclude that this week's Direct will be an E3-style blowout.

they should go sicko mode and brand it as virtual spaceworld

I was thinking this too lmao

Partners and Minis of the switch era have all been on Wednesday/Thursday?

I know one partner was Sunday/Monday but can’t remember the others

Broke: Tuesday morning means Mini

Woke: TGS is the new E3 baby

Partner Showcases in 2020:
  • Monday, July 20
  • Wednesday, August 26
  • Thursday, September 17
  • Wednesday, October 28
This year's was Tuesday, June 28, but let's just write that off as being because it was the replacement for E3.

And the Switch-era (non-Partner) Minis:
  • Thursday, January 11, 2018
  • Thursday, March 26, 2020

honestly they may be a bit lowkey but yeah

I've never been disappointed by a direct mini, I've been disappointed by a good handful of generals
Yup. Minis have the best track record with me, I’ve liked all of them.

There have been several Generals I did not like and Partners are a grab bag of highs and lows. But Minis always deliver some good announcements.

The context of this being a mini is the problem for some. They want to see the big franchises like BotW 2 from Nintendo. Also, there hasn’t been a General Direct since February.

I’m fine either way and I probably prefer a Mini because it reassures me Drake announcement is coming sooner than later.
