In August, The Chinese leaker on Weibo that leaked the Splatoon 3 Oled and Switch Lite accurately…stated we would see Nintendo tease the new hardware during the last week of September. So this person has an alleged track record. Take with a grain of salt.

He even went so far to provide specs. Ultimately it is in the ballpark of a Xbox series S. You guys who can translate Mandarin, should be able to find it.

If the Direct does not manifest itself today, maybe look to that.

I've heard of most of that stuff before, but the backwards compatibility info is new to me. Has this been leaked/rumored somewhere or is it just common sense? I listened to a Nate/MVG discussion where MVG made it sound like backwards compatibility isn't guaranteed with a new architecture, meaning there'd have to be a software or hardware solution for it.

Not leaked, but assumed very strongly by pretty much everyone speculating due to how bad it would be for customer goodwill of Nintendo's next Switch ditches the epic library this one has built. That thing MVG was talking about had to do (iirc)with the fact that current Switch games have their shaders (graphic stuff) precompiled to the GPU's language for speed and efficiency, which means they wouldn't play nice with the new GPU without some sort of translation layer. Mario 3D AllStars did this with Galaxy, where the game was ported over and the GPU side ran an emulation layer to mimic the Wii so they wouldn't have to re-code the graphics rendering for Switch's GPU. So there's precedent for that method, we'll just have to see what Nintendo and Nvidia decide to do about it.
