So here's a fun thing I didn't know until embarrassingly recently. Nintendo Land came from one of the directors of Wii Sports Resort, who went on to direct Nintendo Switch Sports. In the interim he helped out with A Link Between Worlds and Super Mario Maker.

What I'm getting at here is that the troubled development of Nintendo Switch Sports likely robbed us of a really good project that would've come after by now.

Nintendo the type to fuck up the development of the game they invented.

It's frustrating when Nintendo hit on great ideas and don't follow them up. Reimagining Nintendo Land for Switch should be on the agenda, as should porting over NES Remix, and then working on SNES Remix and GameBoy Remix and Game & Watch Remix

Just do what Pac Man Vs did, put a 2nd screen app version of it on the eshop as a free download. The switch that has the game is docked, the version with the 2nd screen app is the portable screen.

They should use the Super Mario 3D World look to do a Diablo style spin-off, it works so well for a top down view and they could make it a collect 1 million coins challenge like in the 3DS NSMB

But the real determining factor to how enjoyable it can be is if they finally denounce the Bah!Bah! soundtrack and make it something pleasant to listen to.

3D World's soundtrack would be a fantastic starting point. That stuff's sublime.

Since people are talking about it, as someone who still has their WiiU plugged in to their TV, is the 3D world switch port worth it for Bowser’s Fury alone?

Super Mario is my favorite franchise and Bowser's Fury is a contender for my favorite of the series. Definitely worth it.

Wild that we're going to easily clear the previous longest-ever Nintendo speculation thread on either site. Fami is the gift that keeps on giving!

It's wonderful to see this community grow into its own when it's not being tied down by mod drama and constant console warring.

Real talk though I hope the GameBoy systems are on NSO in a few weeks or certainly within a month or two. Having a rough time of things so replaying old favourites in the next few months is getting more and more appealing.

Good job Metroid Prime HD is coming, really.

I played all the NSMB games, but I'm done with that aesthetic. Need something new to hop back into 2D Mario.

Also found 3D World a technically excellent but kind of... uninspired, safe game, which reminded me of a lot of Nintendo's Wii U titles. I know people will disagree with that, but I much prefer the more ambitious and weird elements of Odyssey. Even though the actual people in NDC are still a bit jarring.

I agree. The problem was how they used similar variants in four games released in fairly short succession. It got very old, very fast.

Next Paper Mario will just be a visual novel. All NPCs are Toads and it still regularly wastes your time with useless fight scenes that no one likes

In hindsight I may have misspoke; I haven't touched NSMBU since Wii U and didn't recall that most of the Bah!Bah!s have been replaced with a glockenspiel...which is like, marginally better, but still not exactly endearing (and I say that as someone who loves listening to full band Born To Run live in '85)

Yeah. The problem was no change in style with many of the games coming out in quick succession (though really it was just the 3DS and Wii U ones back to back. 4 games in 8 years isn’t that much). Part of the problem was how different the original sets of games were form each other compared to the “New” series.

Dream realistic GB launch lineup:

-Super Mario Land (SML2 to follow later)
-Kirby’s Dream Land (KDL2 to follow later)
-Metroid II
-Link’s Awakening
-Mole Mania
-DK ‘94
-Game & Watch Gallery
-Harvest Moon GB
-Legend of the River King
-Tetris

That would be a pretty solid day one line-up, don’t you think? A little bit of everything. SML2 is infinitely better than SML, which is probably the worst Mario game, but you gotta start somewhere. I’m assuming Nintendo would probably want to launch with ten games and add more over time, as they did with the N64, rather than add a whole bunch of games all at once and then burn out sooner.

The last three are probably the biggest stretch, since they have to be licensed, but Nintendo has added Natsume games to NSO before.

I’m just assuming Pokémon would be a no go.

I’ve been playing Returnal. Pretty excited to get to after all the praise.

Im not liking it at all. I’ve put some decent time in it. And the gameplay loop isn’t as much fun as I had hope. Like the setting a lot tho, looks nice visually, but a bit boring.

I’m hoping that I just haven’t gotten to the part where “this is why it’s been in the running for game of the year”.

But yeah, i was hoping it was like Hades where I liked a lot almost immediately lol.
