For Gamecube remasters, Nintendo will finally do Melee HD because the competitive community clamored for it several years ago and made a big point about it, unfortunately they will not move to it if it has no UCF and worse netcode than Dolphin which it almost assuredly will.

I'm starting to see next year as a Switch re-launch. We're essentially reaching the next generation - Switch being 6 year old soon. That certainly puts the rumoured hardware specs and Zelda being veiled in mystery for so long into perspective. They're trying to cushion a risky new console launch by embracing cross-compatibility and maintaining Switch's USP and marketing clout.

In that sense, seeing BotW2 and 2D Mario soon would make sense - Zelda and 2D Mario having important places in Launch Title History. If both of those turn up in a single Direct... my God.

Also, side effect of remakesters of GameCube/Wii Era stuff: that's content that would have no problem running on Switch OG.
Exactly!!
I think relying on both remakesters and ambitious new games(Zelda BotW, FE Next, hopefully 2D Mario, content of 2022 games) is a very smart idea to both highlight the new hardware and keep selling the old one/selling games to the giant install base.

I'm pretty sure there's games on Switch that some kind of ray tracing for some visual features(IIRC the clouds/sky in Xenoblade 2?). Is there any chance we have those in a drawn back way or as an option once games start having it for Drake? BotW 2 surely looks awesome and while it's probably not ray tracing, those lighting/reflections/particles look stellar.

Is there any smoke for a Luigi's Mansion 1 Switch remake or is that just wishful thinking?
I think it's mostly wishful thinking. But Luigi's Mansion became a huge titan with 3, so they won't want the franchise to freeze. I think a Remakester of 1 before we have 4 is a given - that way they can both heavily highlight Drake's visual features while also giving original Switch another looker, which is also what I see Prime Remastered being.

I'd be pretty happily surprised if Prime 4 was 2023. Seems like 2024 to me based on the fact that they restarted in early 2019, they had to hire a bunch of new positions for it, and their attention has also (supposedly) been split a bit with the Prime 1 remake/remaster. Plus covid in the mix? I mean it's taking Nintendo 6 years to make a sequel to BOTW that is being built entirely on the foundation of the first game. Game dev cycles for AAA are just super long now.

I feel like after the success of LM3 it's possible.
Konami can you please remaster and re-release this joy of a game???

Please. This game gave me so much joy when I was a kid.

Right now Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime seem to be a lock for Switch.

F Zero GX seems to be a distinct possibility. Prime 2 may well happen based on what we've heard about the first Prime remaster (and Prime 3, from Wii). Everything else is up in the air, unless anyone can enlighten us.

Personally if Nintendo wanted to bring things like Pikmin and Luigi's Mansion to Switch I hope each game is packaged with their sequel.

My favorite part of Luigi's Mansion on 3DS is that it is actually a part of the canon timeline as its own separate story and not just a straight redo of the first story.

Someone asked Grubb on Twitter about any chance of the Prime trilogy in this direct and he said:

“No. If 2 and 3 come, they will do so later and with less pomp.”

Not that we expected it in this direct, but it still seems up in the air about 2 and 3 coming over. Though I’d have to imagine they would consider even just a straight port of 2 and 3 before MP4 releases

I think Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will both get "Welcome amiibo" or "Booster Course Pass" and "Octo Expansion" kinda deals. I think those games will get back at receiving content in 2023 or 2024. I don't think it's at all reasonable to expect sequels for any of those anytime soon. Switch didn't/won't have its own Mario Kart and the port it got only got DLC 5 years after the release. I don't think Drake will have its Animal Crossing or Smash because we already have perfect games of those franchises that are evergreens and have active communities.

Only way I see Ultimate and New Horizons not getting new content is if one of those Game Cube remakes end up being Melee and Animal Forest.

All this talk about “most” of the remakesters being GameCube games but what about the small portion of upcoming remakesters that AREN’T GameCube games?? Super Mario RPG, anyone?? :D
I think that with those 2D-HD galore it's more likely than ever that we get Super Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger.

From the information we have in form of leaks, they were already working on Prime 4 by 2018(providing assistance to BN/design).
Prime Remake wrapped up in September 2021.
I don't think holiday 2023 is that out there of a prediction. But it could well fall into early 2024 too.
I don't think it's comparable to BotW 2 because as far as we know it's not an open world game. But it is going to be one of the most ambitious/probably the most expensive games Nintendo ever made.

Melee HD would be an useless product, the porting to a newer engine would slightly alter some minor mechanics and the community would say it's literally unplayable trash and go back to spending hundreds of dollars on CRTs and GameCube controllers to play Melee on original hardware.

so what did i miss on gamecube remasters?
Basically:
  • Nintendo is going to heavily rely on remasters and have a lot in production (most games guessed on the last pages are either in production or seriously considered);
  • Nintendo reads social media and boards, so they know franchises fans ask for all the time and try to work on them/test the waters with remasters;
  • at this point, Metroid Prime Remake, Zelda Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are basically givens and coming soon;
  • F-Zero GX, Kid Icarus Uprising and nicer games from GCN are apparently going to happen too.

This. 2 and 3 will come eventually, but as far as leaks go, they're not even in development yet. They're not releasing before MP4 and definitely aren't getting revealed or name dropped alongside Prime Remastered.

Okey relating to FE, I kinda want them to do back to back remakes lel. Gimme a FE4 remake and then a FE6 remake soon after :> (Who cares about Thracia lul).
Oh and if PoR's gonna get a remaster, I need them to do me a favor and make Killer weapons buyable in the Armory. That was one of the few grips I had with the game, it was the only game where Killer weapons were extremely limited for whatever reason instead of being traditionally buyable later on. Every other game in the past and future (including its sequel) had Killer Weapons ready to be easily bought at around the midgame. But PoR was the odd one out and didn't have them in armories.

This is a great chat. But I timestamped a hilarious shot where Erica Mendez is reading lines from Genealogy lol. Remake confirmed lol.

Regards, I love the cast of FE3H and these chats are fantastic.

I don’t think anybody confirmed/strongly hinted F Zero??

That's the better option though
I don't consider a subscription for games I cannot own the best option. A nice add-on for subscribers, a good additional alternative, sure. Great. But I don't want my only option to be to pay a monthly subscription to gain temporary access to games I want to own permanently. I don't need a Metroid Prime subscription, I want it in my library.

The Game Cube library has always been a hole on my gaming career because I skipped both it and the Wii. The first Game Cube game I ever played was Wind Waker when they released the HD version. Slowly they have been making those games available again, and it culminated with Sunshine a while ago which was also my first opportunity to play.

So I'm very happy were getting more GCN games. Will be a delight to play Metroid Prime for the first time.

I hope The Thousand Year Door, Pikmin 1 and 2 and Metroid Prime 2 and 3 are between these remasters. I'd love to play those and never had the chance.

Man, with the cost of living crisis and everything; I really can't get hyped for full price remasters of Old Shit, if that's what they're planning.

I hope they just do GameCube NSO. Or failing that, I hope they do a line of 'GameCube Classics' for £25 each or something, rather than treat each one as a big deal new release.

Also, how dare they move on from Wii U to older systems without porting Xenoblade X and Pullblox World

I think they wouldn't port it to a newer engine if it just used the Gamecube ISO. The community still wouldn't like it if it had any additional lag (which it would) or worse online than Slippi (which it would) though.

I've missed so much due to a stressful day at work :'-( I see that Emily apparently chimed in to say there will be lots of remasters/remakes in the works at Nintendo. Has there been any word if there's some legitimacy to the whole Kid Icarus thing? It's a top 5 game of all time for me and I need it.

I still can't get how some people never actually realized this, or is it just my thinking? Because from reading few posts here I was really surprised that this is news to them.
tbf, this is Nintendo we're talking about. Infamous for being anti-consumer and being terrible with communication.

Btw remember Super Mario Sunshine was sold as part of a collection with two other games that costed 60 dollars.

Sunshine looks great on the Switch, that level of remastering is enough to bring a game in its original form. So either the next games will be more complex remasters with better texturing like Twilight Princess, or they will be cheaper than full price imo

If Halo was/still is in consideration for Switch, I sincerely hope it was just MCC or even just the first title, because woof
Saber's own games taking so much time to port to Switch, I wouldn't be surprised if it arrives to Switch like, in 2025 or even later. It's been more than year since the Kingdom Come announcement but still no word.

I get your point. But it's like, yeah they are mapping what fans want, what general public thinks about new games etc. It's the same as "they don't care about competitors", yes they care. They even had meetings after E3 in which they discussed games from competitors.

I hope this is the case! Just on a personal level though: I have no eye for detail, and so better textures wouldn't really justify the cost for me.

Damn, I'm catching up in earnest now, and it DOES seem like there's a lot of remasters coming from Nintendo. WWHD/TPHD, Metroid Prime, F-Zero (hinted at from like 4 people now), Kid Icarus. I'm totally cool with that. For F-Zero and Kid Icarus, it definitely feels like a chance for those series to prove sales potential.

Only now catching up on this thread, but to me the surprise is less that they look at social media and more that they would actually see worth in spending resources on what the enthusiasts want. Usually, we're always told that the enthusiast crowd is a vocal minority and is out of step with the casual crowd which is where the real money is at.

Like I'd be over the moon if a TTYD remaster got announced but I'd be surprised if it actually happened.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but are you saying that Breath of the Wild 2 will not be an open world title?

If so, I completely disagree. It’s a direct sequel to the original BotW, which became so well-renowned due to its perfection of the open-world format. If Nintendo wanted to make a linear 3D Zelda next, they would not have branded it as the “sequel to Breath of the Wild”… it would be a standalone title like Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, or Skyward Sword.

It’s not at all unreasonable to assume that BoTW2 will be primarily an open-world title. Sure, maybe there will be linear sections or elements like dungeons or the sky islands, but I fully believe Nintendo would not make a mistake as ridiculous as following up one of their most successful games of all time with a so-called “sequel” that changes the genre.

edit: unless I’m a stupid dumb-dumb and totally misunderstood what you were saying, in which case I apologize.

Let's all play which FPS is likely to arrive on Switch first; Halo, GoldenEye, or TimeSplitters?

Did I miss something, what happened ?
After Bonnie Ross announced in 2017 that all future Halo games would have splitscreen co-op campaigns after the dismal failure of Halo 5, 343i has just walked back on that promise after months of delays, lack of communication, and gamers (and Gamers™) are...a little incensed, to say the least.
