Shania is a great character, yes. On paper.
In practice, her narrative is botched.
For two reasons. One i don't really understand, but the other I do:
In terms of foreign movies, I always do subs. I'm sure the dub is bad because the US voice actors seem to only have one mode (Saturday morning cartoon!). You see that in Xenoblade too, with Consul X and Akhos/Patroka. Thank God for the primarily British cast of these games.
I don't have complaints about the dialogue in this game on a general level. It can be arch and awkward at times, sure, but it's also a localisation so whatever.
It's hearing the same thing again and again, or the characters repeating really obvious things, or being absurdly slow to understand anything that is happening, or the sermonising that makes up the entirety of the end third that I take issue with.

They once again had to have her cackling evilly and have the time of her life betraying the crew and killing everyone she knows. Despite the fact that this is a broken, suicidal person fixated on their own inadequacy and failures.
It's very different to the unhinged, painful laughter that comes from N after M dies.
This is what I mean. They are beholden to the idea of what an antagonist should be, to the detriment of their own story and characters.
