Jeff heard week of the 12th, Quartermann has heard "as early as next week" (Sept 5th), but I think it lends more credence to the week of TGS more than anything else.

I'm still holding onto my prediction that N64 NSO update will be the following week, Friday September 23rd, filling the average 35 day gap between releases, no NSO update of genuine substance until October.

And Nate repeatedly told us that his sources typically aren‘t aware of the branding for each Direct, so it‘s probably just guessing work based on the games included in the showcase they were told about.

Definitely curious whether they'll break their Wednesday/Thursday trend of directs to ensure it goes before TGS or not.

We can always ask the Grubb himself: hey Jeff, when you were talking about "whatever they're doing with Zelda", I feel it's safe to assume that was an encompassing thing meaning "BOTW2 and WWHD+TPHD?"

He only said “maybe next week” because Dan said “rumor-direct as soon as next week” (which honestly doesn’t even make sense except to say it’s not this week but anytime after). Grubb even put Week of 12th in writing on his Game Mess schedule, he seems pretty sure but was just thrown that weird nothingburger by Dan

I mean we thought TGS week was out because of prior history and now Grubb's saying week of the 12th. Which I find interesting as they've never been so close to TGS. It would basically be a "not-TGS" TGS Direct.

I missed anything on the ports but sure, 'whatever they're doing' could incorporate those games. I'm just not taking it as a given that they're releasing soon, even though I'll freely and obviously acknowledge Jeff Grubb is in a better position to know than me.

Look, here I go with another theory. Splatoon reviews are dropping either Tuesday 6th or Wednesday 7th. If they drop reviews on Tuesday 6th and try to announce Direct on Wednesday 7th for a Direct on 8th that would already make Direct on 9th for most of Europe and especially Japan and they are not going to have a Direct on Splatoon's release date or even date before.
 
By my calculation “As soon as next week” covers next week through the end of days. Pretty solid prediction IMO

How, by making him say a date that anybody COULD technically guess?

Also how is saying a specific date helping "snipe" someone than saying the week it will be on?

I'm just curious if he has a general idea of when it is or if he knows the exact date
 
Whether the Direct happens next week or the week of the 12th, that will be another pattern broken (major game release week and TGS week). Nintendo truly doesn't give a fuck anymore
 
This was years ago I know, but the September 2017 Direct happened two days before Samus Returns released.

It's best not to be too obsessive over the date, we know it's coming, we know it's probably the week of the 12th, now all we need to do is wait for it to happen!

As for saying the date, saying like "it's on the 14th" isn't a guess. Don't want Nate to lose his source or the source to lose their job, leaking any confidential information is already treading on very thin ice, don't want to overpush it.

Also, if it happens to be a day later or earlier, or if it gets moved (which is always possible) do you really want Nate to go through shitstorms like that again? If Nate said Persona 5 Royal is launch on October 21st at 9am but it launches at 10am, some people find that enough ammunation to declare anything he says to be wrong forever.

If Nate says a specific date it will be all over the internet and bringing a lot more attention to him and his source. Especially the further out the direct is, the less people know about it. I think Nate sometimes is more specific of the time a couple days before when a lot more people are aware and wouldn’t be as easy for the ninjas to track him down. Before then he drops clues
