Dread released so long ago. I fear that after the game's unsatisfactory sales (i mean it didn't even reach BOTW) nintendo might give us Metroid Fans the cold shoulder again.

Why do those franchises like xenobald and fire emblem keep getting new games while we metroid fans have to scrape by. I wish Metroid got sold to Microsoft, they would treat us better.

speaking of potential BotW 2 DLC - between Torna and Octo Expansion, the expectation for expansion content on Switch has raised significantly since BotW released so I wonder how that'll reflect in the sequel, especially with new expansions on the same scale coming for Xenoblade and Splatoon 3 next year

If it’s broken 3 million (or will soon), isn’t that the best the franchise has ever done? I can’t imagine Nintendo is expecting all their games to be 5-10 million sellers - that’d be totally unreasonable.

The main concern I’d have is whether they can shop out the next title easily. there’s no reason to assume Mercury Steam will just continue to make Metroids right?

Edit: should have read carefully - I took the bait :X

Lol I thought you were being serious until "didn't even reach BotW" lol

This seems like a troll post, but I’ll respond anyway. We got Samus Returns in 2017, then Dread last year. Prime 4 is in development. And if the rumors are true, Prime 1 is getting a remake.

Metroid is doing fine.

I think it's not unreasonable to think they'll make at least another Metroid game for Switch after Dread's success. I think they'll also use the engine and assets they made for Dread as a foundation to build the next 2D Metroid as an iterative sequel or even a new remake for the next two years or so.

The gap between Zelda: Breath of the Wild and its sequel is the longest gap between mainline Zelda titles ever

I hope the Zelda team takes this gap and goes meta. In BOTW2 at the top of some cliff there will be a sign that reads, "the distance between this point and x location is 22xx meters (1 meter for each day between March 3, 2017 and March-May x, 2023), mind the gap."

I don't think they work like that tho... Astral Chain came out in 2019, with Nier Automata being 2017, and it had a 4-5 years dev cycle. Bayonetta 3 definitely didn't start development only late 2019. They also had Babylon Fall released and etc. Idk if Bayo and AC share many leads too. I think it can happen by 2024 tbh.

Speaking to VGC in a newly-published interview, studio head Atsushi Inaba said he couldn’t say what the project was, but cryptically commented that “it would be nice” if the unannounced game was revealed soon.
This was in 2021, what the state of the game or even the project is anyones guess. But it wouldn’t shock me to see a 2025+ release date. We’ll learn more when the trailer is shown.

F-Zero GX HD would still be really cool. That or a remake. Nintendo seems to like doing remakes to test market viability (2D Metroid, Famicom Detective Club, Advance Wars).

With such a long dev time I can't stop myself anymore - my expectations are fully unchecked

I demand Tarrey Town's expansion further into the Akkala region. Hudson's ambition surely cannot be contained to that precarious islet. Anything less will ensure the game is an abject failure.

Splatoon fans and Zelda fans are actually in a very similar situation of waiting over five years for a sequel that's basically the same game

and both will defend their respective derivative sequels until the end of time

The simple fact that it will finally be possible to have lobbies with Friends in Splatoon without using the stupid mobile app makes Splatoon 3 a worthy sequel.

While Splat 3 looks to be iterative, the three-way splatfests are a very big (and needed) step up imo. It fixes a really bad paradox that 2 suffered where the less popular team was massively advantaged by actually having people to fight while the more popular team almost exclusively fought amongst themselves. If the story mode is good then this sequel can be justified, although they probably should've waited to make it a Drake exclusive

yeah, having watched the direct a couple times since it went live (via reactions), it's a weak ass sequel. I'm excited for it because it's more splatoon and way more playable, but it's more like this is splatoon 2 and splatoon 2 was "oh shit oh fuck new console is out less than two years after our new multiplayer ip"

Might make more sense once reviews hit.
Need I remind you that the metacritic score of pokemon is much higher than the one of zelda in the past 6 years?
Game freak is just more talented than epd3 and that's just a fact.
Pokemon's metacritic score is at over 600 while zelda's score is 200+ maybe.

Tbh, as someone who hasn't touched Splatoon 2 in like 3-4+ years I'm considering getting it, 24/7 Salmon Run is tempting and it's so similar I can just sell my copy of 2 (although having to part with Octo Expansion is a very hard choice)

I think Splatoon 3 will get good reviews just based on the fact that the singleplayer looks EXTREMELY promising from what we've seen, and reviewers love to focus on Splatoon's campaigns

pretty much. I might get it once im not so poor and after all the dlc but yeah.

I was talking to a friend of mine and we concluded that it's a sequel meant strictly for the fans. Is that what Splatoon needs right now? Perhaps not, but it will hopefully at least benefit from the larger install base and see some nominal growth

There are F Zero games on GBA and Nintendo have been working on GBA emulation for Switch.

Plus, we haven't had a 99 game this year, so far.
please god no. if i want an f-zero BR i want to actually interact with other cars not race by myself and occasionally fire shit at other screens.

put the death race into GX and make it online, that'll be more than good enough.

I think it's a sequel for fans and for the ~60 million people who got a switch after Splatoon 2 stopped receiving content updates :)

Oh yeah I don't think DLC like Champion's Ballad will work now.
The bar set by Torna and Octo Expansion being basically new games is too high and I think they'll go that route for the Zelda DLC too.

The last time I played splatoon 2 was in early 2020, so I think I'll buy splatoon3 to get back into the series.
