Nintendo should have bought Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise when they had the chance.
  • Western developer specialized in single player games
  • Iconic female protagonist to add diversity of their portfolio as well as crossovers such as Smash Bros.
  • Lots of legacy content to draw from
  • Reboot series has come to a conclusion, giving them a clean slate for the future of the IP

Of course, this being Nintendo who are known for coasting and resting on their laurels it was to be expected that they wouldn't do this no-brainer move.

The whole thing would have been worth it just to see weird fanboys having a meltdown all over the internet and going "But Lara Croft is a PlayStation character! Fucking Nintendo stealing our games AGAIN!" Alas, it was not meant to be.

I have a confession to make. I’ve been playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3 for 15 hours now

Why is this thread so slow

are u playing videogames?
I'm fighting to try and get my pickup to pass the biennial smog check so the state doesn't tell me I don't have a car anymore

I might play a video game if it fails

Fami doesn't care about Splatoon so there isn't speculation about that game's direct 😔
not sure how serious you are but this is 100% correct

everything else is handled and hardware is dead, so there's nothing interesting to most of the site

Yeah August is a dead month. The only first party release is probably Dream Buffet but we don't have a date on it. Lol

I may pick up Pac-Man World though if it gets good reception.

I wish Nintendo would stop sending me e-mails about Xenoblade Chronicles 3 being out and making me even more depressed I can't buy it

You all have lost your absolute fucking minds.

The Switch Pro will be revealed when I'm ready for it to be revealed.

When it is, that will be the end of this. Any more of this bullshit after I reveal it will be actioned accordingly.

Seethe, cope, mald, do whatever you need to do to prepare yourselves.

I admit, I don’t really care about Splatoon, but I’m happy for those that do! It’s just that as you said, there’s not really much of anything to speculate about. Splat 3 Direct and Indie World seem very likely soon, maybe with Kirby thrown in. We need to wait a few weeks before we can really speculate much about the General Direct. And even then, most of the speculation about that Direct will be exactly the same as the speculation we had back when we thought it would happen in June. Very little has changed. We need Nintendo to actually have the Direct so we know the status on a lot of different things; THEN speculation can actually ramp up again.

@Raccoon I think speculation calmed down mainly because our needs were all slowly met over July and no one doubts there will be a Splatoon Direct rather than people don’t like Splatoon. For the former part, the biggest questions walking into July were where was new hardware (there was none), where were the new games we wanted from a June Direct (we got Kirby), where was our DLC (we got Mario Kart, Strikers, and New Volleyball Moves), where was our Bayonetta 3 info (new trailer and release date), and what’s up with Pokemon (we got it). We also got two cool new games to play in this time with Live A Live and Xenoblade and the latter is a colossal feast for the ages that everybody and their grandmas should play.

So yeah most people are happy right now. Like I really want Splatoon, it and Bayonetta 3 are probably the last huge extra hype releases of the year for me (not counting Trails From Zero which I’m mainly super hyped about for other people to play), but it’s hard to be hungry with speculation when I’m so full elsewhere lol.

People complaining about too much Xenoblade. People complaining about too many strategy RPGs. It is time for Nintendo to announce the game of their nightmares.

Xenoblade Tactics
Okay, I'm gonna take the bait. I'm that Nintendo fan. Xenoblade Tactics would indeed be anti-hype for me. I felt my eyes glaze over as this post entered my vicinity and my eyes would glaze over again if this ever got announced.

Thank you for hurting me tonight.

I agree with all this, but I do think this is also a clear demonstration of the differences between Direct news delivery and split up news. As different groups were satisfied over the past weeks, they fell off speculation. Now, with only one group left out in the cold, most are content while it waits fervently. I definitely feel that, as complete as this news period feels, the thread would look very different if something more popular on the site was the last box to be checked.

I'm not complaining about that, by the by. I think the lull is good, and I don't really feel bothered by the fact that most of the site is indifferent to Splatoon.

everyones happy except the scrimblo bimblo fans

Even my Scrimblo Bimblo was forced to be a Tactics game. By Ubisoft, of all companies. Twice.

Have I not suffered enough?

Mario + Rabbids is objectively well made, but i didn't stick with it to the end. The sequel looks well made but im mostly interested in the OST over any of the actual gameplay.

Okay but for real, time has been going crazy fast the past month or 2 and now that the Splatoon 3 direct is imminent it suddenly slowed to a crawl. How do I pass the time? And don't say "play video games", that'd be heresy.

I think we’ll get proper Splatoon hype going after the inevitable presentation. I know some people have been satisfied with how it’s been presented and what’s been presented so far, but I think the most exciting trailer for Splatoon 3 has been that first one. We had a great introduction to the game (lil buddy, upside down Eiffel Tower) and we saw a lot of the biggest multiplayer changes right then too in like a ten second clip (new spawning, new weapons, new movement). Since then it’s been very lackluster showings. Like we know what Turf War looks like, we know there will be new events and wrinkles in Salmon Run (which hey, Godzilla boss looks rad, but how often will he even show up). I don’t feel this way because I don’t like Splatoon, I feel this because I love Splatoon and expect more from them. In the first game they brilliantly made map control into a tangible element, in Splatoon 2 they turned Horde Mode around on its head with Salmon Run which laser targeted the heart of what’s fun about those modes, and with the Octo Expansion they raised the bar for the already excellent Splatoon single player. I’m ready to see what they got, because I do believe it’s not just subtle, but profound multiplayer tweaks. We’ve been resting on hype for this game for too long, once people see the big additions, the hype will be real.

Has it been a year since that original post yet?

Are we thinking that the Sept Direct will show us a blowout of BoTW2?

I personally am fully expecting it
