We've not had a full fat September Direct after a skipped June Direct, which makes me wonder what we could get this year, assuming Nintendo don't pull Partner Showcase 2.0.
Fire Emblem and Zelda seem like the likeliest 2023 titles to show. 2023 should also be about time for Good-Feel's next contracted game from Nintendo. And, of course, there's the EPD 8 and EPD 10 games in the works. I'd be very surprised if we ever got all of that shown at once, though.
Direct showings always need to be contextualised within the broader rhythm of Nintendo's announcements. One of the reasons we had February and June 2021 Directs packed with announcements was because each time, the release schedule was mostly empty at that point in time. By last September's Direct, the schedule was full up to January, and so they didn't reveal as much of their own content. Currently, they haven't announced much software since February of this year and 2023 only has one game pencilled in, so September would be the time for them to begin tipping their hand. That being said, they'd only really need to cover the first few months of 2023 because a February Direct could do the heavy lifting for reveals for the April through July period (which happened in 2021 and 2022).
We came into 2022 knowing that Pokemon Legends, Kirby, and Triangle Strategy would launch early in the year. Maybe a September 2022 Direct gives us a similar picture - Zelda, Fire Emblem, and something else.
