What are the odds of half life coming to switch now that portal seems to be doing well overall?

It’s outselling everything on the eshop, even during the big sale. Best selling eshop game in Europe in the month of June as well. Wasn’t half life 2 on the nvidia shield as well?

This is a great point. I was remarking to myself earlier today that if it were 2014 and Mario Kart 8 looked like Shroom Ridge I'd probably be super into it.
Yeah, I've heard similar sentiment crop up here and there. Tour is still an HD-ready game with a clean visual style. It looks nice! But MK8D goes for that more realistic style, and without a lot more work you get the inevitable clash of styles. Both are fine in their own ways when you look at them separately, but right next to each other the difference can be jarring.

MK8 was such a quantum leap over the rest of the series, presentation wise, it's not even funny. Other games looked good. Sounded good! A game that looks like Tour on Wii U would've totally been in line with that. But MK8 went bonkers and it looks and sounds phenomenal, even ported to a Switch and even now. It's the first time Mario Kart really impressed me in that way and it's part of the reason I can say it's a GOAT tier game for me. In that regard, even if the Booster Course Pass isn't as good visually, it's like an extra cherry on top, or a solid side dish complimenting the lovely main course.

These food analogies are making me hungry...

Regardless of which style you prefer, it’s hard to deny that some of the textures and models in the BCP are downright terrible. Some of the detail work in Paris Promenade is just plain ugly.

I prefer the 8 style, but I like the Tour style too. I just wish they did it more justice.

I can't believe you were on my ass when we have the exact same opinion

this is what I get for rampant hyperbole

I'm so lttp here, but huge congrats buddy!

Monday is the anniversary of Satoru Iwata's death, which Kit and Krysta have mentioned is an off-limits day of the year for Nintendo moving forward since his death. Tuesday is the first day an announcement of some kind can be reasonably expected.

Glad you got something good for you

I don’t like talking about my money publicly but I do have a good flow of income
Thanks y’all. I’ll be sure to buy more games to not play lol

The Tour style works best on Shroom Ridge for me. Looks vibrant and nicely cartoony, whereas other tracks just look a little flat and simple versus the vanilla 8 offerings.

I liked it best on Sky Garden myself, all of the colors really pop quite nicely. Definitely looks best on more minimalist track designs.

For this coming week my ranking in terms of likeliness.

1. Pokemon Trailer
2. MK8 DLC trailer
3. Pokemon + MK8DLC
4. Bayo 3 trailer
5. Bayo + one of the above
6. First party focused direct
7. Drake + Direct

1-5 are fairly likely
6 is plausible but not too likely
7 is a pipe dream

Why does everyone think there's a Pokemon trailer this week? Someone said Kelios said something but I can't find any proof of it.

There is a lot of Nintendo roadmap plans that are just MIA at the moment. Splatoon stuff, Wii Sports DLC, Mario Strikers DLC, N64 and NSO stuff, Mario Kart Booster Pack DLC is over due. Probably a lot more stuff I'm missing as well. I think largely this is why I thought maybe a General Direct was in order but I suppose they could just do a bunch of tweets. Like with the Pokemon Puzzle NSO announcement last week, the OLED Splatoon Switch, etc. So who knows with Nintendo anymore. Their patterns are completely breaking down these days lol.
Nintendo could always just do a bunch of Twitter drops, but bundling things into Directs is a strategy that they do anyway because it has certain benefits for them. It's not the right format for everything though, and the announcements of new games for NSO in particular basically never makes it into a Direct unless a new platform is coming or the game is a really big deal.

But why next week specifically? Why not any other time in the next month?
Over a month since the last trailer (June 1)

New gen Pokémon gets a new trailer once a month and we’re due for one

But like the poster above said, SV has a seemingly quieter cycle (but we’re still in the summer so it’ll ramp up at some point in the fall)

The only wave 1 BCP courses that really bothered me visually were Toad Circuit and Sky Garden. Toad Circuit has the weird flat textures for grass and sand while Sky Garden does this ugly rippling effect with the clouds

I don't think Pokemon is any more likely next week than anything else, but given that next week is oddly empty when every other week this month has something going on, it seems like SOMETHING will happen next week. And Pokemon is a really plausible and also safe pick.
Gotta clear the week for Pokémon. The niche series needs time to shine.

I don't know, maybe Nintendo is just worried they've had too many announcements lately and they need to make space so that they don't go overboard and overshadow Animal Crossing

Nintendo is clearing their schedule for next week so they can announce patch notes for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Pokémon is plausible, but not something Nintendo would clear the week out for like it seems they have

That’s funny cause I love the rippling cloud effect on Sky Garden!

I really love how American Psyco grew in higher popularity in recent time. Even if it’s just cause of memes most of the time.

But the film is great. My favorite scene is the Interrogation in Bateman’s office lol

I misread this as "the interrogation in Batman's office" and I can't believe it took me this long to realize Christian Bale played a guy named Bateman and a guy named Batman. 🤣

let's not talk about what we expect to happen this weekend, because with no new information we're just spinning our wheels

instead I think we should rank possible outcomes by how much we'd actually like them

I'll go first:

1. Drake + Direct
2. Drake
3. Direct
4. Splatoon 3 testfire next weekend
5. Everybody's 1-2 Switch reveal
6. Splatoon 3 Direct
7. Mario Kart DLC news
8. idk, Bayonetta 3?
1. the steady creak of a wooden rocking chair, porch-bound and overlooking a field of tall grass rustling in the breeze when all else is silent
2. a consequence-free kiddie pool in the middle of our living room
3. a plague and its cascading fallout gone without a trace, but for all to know the risk and terror we live daily and to act from this day forward as though at-risk people both exist and are worth protecting through conscious individual choice and community support
4. spiders georg 64

Raccoon is right. Metroid Prime HD remaster+ is such a boring proposition to me. That's how I feel about most games being remastered and remade visually without changes in the content.
I wouldn't reread a book because it has a nicer font and cover, and I wouldn't redate my ex because she has a new makeup brand.

I know I'm being hyperbolic. But I play games for their content first and foremost and just a visual upgrade isn't enough to have me excited.

For me what’s exciting is it’s another excuse to play Prime, something that’ll get people talking about it (which it deserves), and a sign Nintendo is all in on Metroid again. Just feelgood stuff. Of course it’s not the same as the excitement of playing a new game, but it’s an often overlooked classic compared to its similarly-acclaimed 3D Mario & Zelda brethren

And as a side note, for anyone who HASNT played Prime - you’re about to experience a GOAT contender and should DEFINITELY be excited

Like for real - I’m jealous of anyone getting the feeling of experiencing Prime for the first time.

Get “oh I’m not sure if I should play it, it’s probably one of those older games that is beloved but a product of its time” out of your head right now. You’re wrong. Play the game. It stands up with AAA titles today easily.

It's too safe. That's the problem.

This thread is supposed to be off the fuckin rails yall, cmon what happened????????
The wild speculation hype sine wave (WSHSW) peaked not long ago, so we have to ride it back down to the bottom before it can go back up again.

You don’t mess with classics in my opinion.

Games like the RE4 remake might turn out fresher but I just know it won’t hold a candle to the original with the changes.

I want the definitive version of Prime, I don’t believe they could make it better with additions.
