I was a lurker during those times mostly but I remember January 2019 moreso being a Direct must happen this month due to PATTERNS thing because of the 2017 presentation and the Jan 2018 mini

Looking at the timing of the announcements, the lack of leaks about any announcement, and the fact only NA went down, I'm leaning toward a budget option for the holidays. There's a lot of ways they could approach that. For example
-Make an even cheaper version of the lite and phase out the lite entirely. This feels the most likely to me because the lite sells like ass, and I think it's mainly because it's too close in price to the normal unit. An even cheaper, smaller, $150 switch lite could move consoles.
-Get rid of the regular model and replace it with a cheaper dockable model at $200 or $250. Maybe also drop the price of the OLED to $300.
-Get rid of the regular model and replace it with the OLED at $300.
-Make a cheaper docked only model, maybe replacing the regular model with the OLED dropping to $300.
-Lite OLED for $200, regular lite either phased out or moved to $150.
etc, etc.

There's a ton of possibilities for a cheaper or higher value option for the holidays.

Yeah the video only being made private in America has me the most concerned. Perhaps it's due to time zones, and the other channels will follow suit later, but I'm not 100% sure now.

I don't know. Things don't feel right.

I'm nervous.

I'm spitballing, meant to imply that an employee making a video private could've been a mistake due to scheduling differences. In reality, probably a timezone thing.

As I said in another post: all that says to me is that it wasn’t some automatic “Hide this video after X days” script and was, in fact, a conscious act. Someone decided to this. IMO this actually gives it more weight.

There is not zero way. Nintendo can always accept a lower profit margin. It's a cost/benefit analysis they have to make. It can be worth it to lower the profit margin on a product if it will sell a lot more consoles. This is a calculation neither you or I can make since we don't have data on their profit margin or how much they expect to sell at each price.

But it's worth noting Nintendo is expecting to sell around 20m consoles this year and they are currently not making that pace in Japan at least (the only region we get this data in) so it's safe to say they aren't lying to their investors and have some card up their sleeve like a better deal (which could be a lot of different things to be fair, even just a bundle).

the operations of a multi-billion dollar company are the epitome of that which you cannot control

it might happen, it might not, enjoy the ride and stay calm
 
I think it's likely that something is coming. Even without the video being private, Nintendo often has some special console/bundle/deal to keep the sales flowing. Just it might not be a pro ok. There's a lot of different things Nintendo can launch. The 3ds had like 8 different versions released and only one could be considered a pro (and even then just barely). It's not a pro or nothing.

I mean you are right in some way (including the including the punchline lol) but singling you out in a thread full of crazy hype from all sides, me included is neither fair nor true.

So I will try to don't do this again because while I personally didn't mean it in a mean spirited way there could be folks jumping on you because of it.

Sorry to quote you again but, also, the fact that it still exists on other channels could just be down to the simple fact that Nintendo of America, Europe and Asia/Japan are three different marketing entities. Even Directs themselves aren't entirely coordinated between regions, so whether or not hiding early videos to avoid confusion is done could just be like that.

I'm not legit nervous over this, really. Especially not nervous enough to be deserving of a "Jesus Christ" :p

I mean, I do spend time worrying about stuff I can't control. And I worry about some silly shit sometimes. But speculating about this shit is mainly just the nice kind of worrying, like a horror movie or something. Particularly now cause I don't have a big Competition thread - that I spent hours making - riding on it happening.
