Actually the OLED trailer lyrics describes this thread perfectly:

"We can go higher than we've been before, reach to the sky and have it all."

they did this with the Lite reveal at some point too

I think it was sometime before the OLED reveal but don't quote me on that

They don't want any confusion. They've done the same with past directs before they announced a new one.

No, they set videos to private when they’re about to release a new video for something that COULD be mistaken as the previous video, to make sure consumers are watching the newest, and therefore most up-to-date video. So for example if there was a Direct on Smarch 10th 2021, and there’s another Direct on Smarch 11th 2022, they’ll private the Smarch 10th video to make sure people are watching the Smarch 11th video and not the year-old one by mistake.
Ermmmmm..... well, colour me cautiously HYPED.

Switch era Directs have consistently been in a Spring/Summer/Fall cycle, and we have yet to have the summer one.

I'd flip the question on it's head. Why make such a meaty Partner Showcase when that could have been packaged into a standard general Direct? The only two reasons I can think of are that they're either skipping the summer Direct entirely (which I do not buy, as there doesn't really seem to be a good strategic reason for doing so, especially with a bunch of announcements that should be happening imminently (Mario Kart tracks, Switch Sports update, Splatoon 3 testfire, etc.)) or because there's something unusual, like a hardware announcement, that's going to take a bunch of extra time in their presentation that would normally have been occupied by third party announcements.
If they're doing a Direct in July because of new hardware announcements, then I agree it's likely. However, we're not sure they have new hardware to show, and if they don't, it'd make no sense to do a meaty partner in June, and a small first party in July. Again, if there's no new hardware, they could do a Splatoon 3 Spotlight Direct in July and drop things like tracks and updates on Twitter.

I don't want to be a downer, but weren't there also rumors about a potentially different model (not Drake, I think a different OLED model or something) for this year as well? Could be a trailer for that maybe?

Oh my God I actually bought the OLED because I wanted a Switch refresh after 5 years, are they actually gonna drop a pro this year:(
Congrats on owning the new Base Model once they introduce the Pro and phase out the current base model

Same here, the difference between the original and the SwOLED was worth it for me though, even with the possibility of only using it for a year.

It's still up for Nintendo UK. Regarding the Switch Lite, I think even the Nintendo UK video is not available. So maybe this means nothing. I wish it meant something.

That rumor was for a Splatoon or Pokemon themed Switch OLED.
Themed OLEDs makes total sense. I maintain the OLED will become the new Base Model, so that’d be the one that they’re gonna push hardest during the holiday shopping season by introducing themed units.

Fuck Nintendo imo

It's probably privated because it's now about a year old. I'm guessing they regularly prune year+ old videos and decided to do this one for whatever reason.

The OLED was announced a year ago and on Noa side they probably decide to private videos that are a year or more old

This wouldn't make any sense, the OG Switch and Switch Lite trailers are still up IIRC. You don't remove marketing for your brand new model on a whim.

Imo we should all block Nintendo on Twitter. That would send a message for sure.

Uhh I cant find the Switch Lite trailer either. Hype might be dead y'all.
Nintendo is retroactively cancelling the Switch and acts like it never happened. We have only ourselves to blame.

Our Pro begging went too far.

We shouldn't have kidnapped Nintendo employees...

or was that just me?

tbh I've been a little bearish on the DLSS model being announced this month since I'm expecting that to be spring 23, but if that is the OLED vid that went private that's definitely something

Again, the question is what strategic benefit there is to splitting all the announcements up like that when they could have slapped them together with the Partner Showcase and another trailer or two for first party games to make a standard summer Direct.

No. Aside from maybe a special edition or two, which would not get dedicated trailers, there's no credible rumors about non-Drake hardware.

We don't know, but Grubb did say they were taking this fragmented approach, and it may be working for them.

Between last month‘s suspicious lack of new First Party Nintendo software news, the July-long Splatoon tournament suspiciously taking next week off (it took no weeks off last year), and now the OLED video going private??? Fam this is more than smoke, this is stumbling upon Furukawa lighting matches around his gasoline collection
