If last month bore a Xeno 3 Direct and Partner Mini, and this month only bears, say, a Stinky Horse reveal, this forum will hit unprecedented levels of chaos

Hey, new thread! :) Loving the rebranding.

Can't wait for the month to progress and see what we're getting.

When is the threshold for it being likely to be a Direct with BotW2? Like, a September Direct feels like a certainty to contain BotW2, but could BotW2 show up in a hypothetical August Direct, and is a July Direct still too early for it?

I personally feel like July is too early to show more of a 2023 game for which we already have two trailers. Especially with so many other games already coming this year that would have their spotlight stolen by a big BotW trailer. September would be my bet.

I would not rulw out the possibilità of multiple one game direct in July you know like one for Bayonetta 3, one for Pokemon and so on

And in September a direct with Priem HD and Advance Wars for this year(November/December) and 2023 stuff like Fire Emblem

Oh hey my thread subtitle suggestion was accepted! I'm honored, and especially proud to have made Raccoon post an ST with a JRPG reference /s

Anyways, don't really have many expectations for this month, but it would certainly be neat to get a first party focused event. I want to see Fire Emblem!

Lets Go!
Nintendo Mini Direct: Nintendo Showcase

Fully expecting some news about games other than Xenoblade Chronicles 3 this month that release this year non-Splatoon/Pokemon related.

Cool Thread @Raccoon!

I don't really expect anything big for this month but of course I would love to be wrong.

this month: nothing (or maybe a Splatoon thing)

September: Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase

At some point long after everyone expects it and gets antsy: indie world

And then finally: new hardware revel next March

I always approach hardware speculation first through software speculation. To me this year doesn’t make sense for new hardware hence no reveal at this time. We are getting a lot of big Nintendo games with extended DLC support through 2023, namely Mario Kart, Splatoon, Xenoblade, and likely Pokemon SV. Now I do expect a big cross gen period with the next Switch as I think the next big hardware is a gen 2 Switch, rather than a Pro or Successor. I’m not at all worried 3rd party support will not be here for this device, as I’m sure there are tons of PS4 era games anxious to drop on the gen 2 Switch. But I think it’s important to remember Nintendo is going to want their own games to lead on a new device no matter what.

So going back to that extended support, Xenoblade will long be out ahead of new hardware and Monolith will be largely tied up making DLC. Now I do think they have an unlocked framerate or they make a gen 2 support patch, but ostenisbly they aren’t the leading the immediate charge for a new Switch. The Mario Kart team won’t have a new Mario Kart until at absolute earliest 2024 which seems incredibly ambitious and Splatoon is obviously locked in with support as well for Splatoon 3. These two are in some ways the highest sign to me new hardware isn’t fast approaching as they were key pillars of the Switch’s early success and you’ll want brand new entries near launch. Let’s look at Pokemon then, the farthest out and the only one of these four that could potentially come out alongside or shortly after new hardware if it launches this year. Pokemon is by no means a tech powerhouse and it would absolutely benefit from new hardware as an open world game. While it running well would be a huge selling point, I don’t think a wow factor is present here either and overall it would hurt the preception of the game when it needs good hardware to run properly that will likely be very scarce if it launches soon.

So those are the big service games covered let’s look at what’s left. Mario and Rabbids looks fantastic already on original Switch hardware by playing to the console’s strengths. Bayonetta 3 could possibly benefit a lot from a new Switch since Platinum typically goes for show the coolest over the top stuff performance be damned. I just don’t see Nintendo leaning into Bayonetta 3 for this here just due to how mature/sexual/violent the series is, but I’m not going to count against it. Metroid Prime Remastered is the last big game floating this year and no matter how good it looks, I just think it’d be a weird look to attach a gen 2 Switch to as a showcase title. I know PS5 did it with Demon’s Souls, but I think Prime’s stellar art direction does a ton of heavy lifting and it will look great on the normal Switch.

To sum it up then I think new hardware would be largely distracting this year and not terribly beneficial to any of the major announced and rumored games. The Direct we just got showed a ton of third party support for this year too, so I don’t think Switch will be starved for games either. Would you really want a ton of gen 2 Switch software (mostly third party) launching at this time in a crowded holiday? I say no. I think the better plan is to start production and make sure you have a ton of inventory to better meet demand next year.

So before I go then, let’s look at potential future software that would be beneficial for a gen 2 Switch. The obvious answer is Breath of the Wild 2. It’s Nintendo most ambitious game in production thus far and I think has an audience expectation new hardware could launch alongside it (which will excite some and disappoint others). I expect the performance of this game to already be solid on the base Switch as well so a better version wouldn’t be a slap in the face at least. Metroid Prime 4 being further out, I think Holiday 2023, would be another good pick. We know nothing about it, so all I can say is again the brand match is totally there. It being a more hardcore series, I think people interested in it would be very hungry for new hardware and it could turn heads for those normally not interested in Metroid so a hardware launch near it would be very beneficial. The real wild card is an all new Mario game. The Mario team has clearly been quietly hard at work since Odyssey so I could easily imagine a very ambitious game being worked on. Not to sabotage my post here, but it could sneak in as early as this year and, like Breath of the Wild 2, could have been a potential software hold up that made last month’s show a partner showcase. My argument against this line of thinking is that the priority for the next Mario game will be to synergize with the movie first and thus will be designed for the original Switch hardware primarily, but it’s not impossible it does both.

Will these new rumors lead to what actually happens this year instead of yet another summer of disappointment and doomposting?

One more big post for now, so I’m against major hardware, but I do think there will be news in July. I’m not sure the format it takes exactly, perhaps it is just Twitter announcements peppered with Treehouse videos or it’s another mini with a focus on first party titles and they have a spotlight title like Bayonetta 3. Regardless I want to take a look at high priority annnouncements.

The biggest one is definitely the Mario Kart 8 BP Wave 2 announcement. If they want to finish before their deadline of December 2023, they need to be putting out waves roughly every four months which shakes out to roughly March, July, November, March, July, November for the six wave releases. Walking into the last Direct, I felt pretty good about its appearance since the timing lined up. But if you look at the every four months schedule, the November launches in particular do not have a regular presentation nearby. Therefore, there is a good shot Mario Kart Waves will just be Twitter announcements ultimately. Say announce on a Monday and then release that Friday. While we are on DLC, Mario Strikers DLC updates could easily be a Twitter announcement as well if they are mostly just regular character additions.

Games are in an interesting spot. I think whatever is in July is not a full presentation (that’s being saved for September) so I think only 2022 titles matter here. That leaves Advance Wars (which I think quietly releases in August), Bayonetta 3, Everybody 1-2 Switch, Metroid Prime Remakester, potentially new Fire Emblem, potentially Goldeneye, and potential smaller surprises left to be covered. The big ones are obviously Bayonetta, Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime, and Goldeneye. I think the one to watch is Bayonetta 3. If it’s coming soon after Splatoon 3 as Kamiya fears, this is the game we most need to hear about this month in a big way. So either it’s a spotlight game in a mini, or it’s getting it’s own direct. I’m leaning towards the former, so the rest of the above will appear there.

Ok that’s all my big thoughts heading into this period following the shocking return of the Partner Direct. Excited to see how this month goes!

With all these late rumours now about a July direct and possible Switch2 reveaI, now I really want a beefed up Prime remaster to showcase the new Switch.

I almost never double dip on games but I'm so on board for Prime, haven't played it since... wait when did the game release?

Forgot to vote in the poll. Going with July 14/15th for new Mario Kart tracks day and that week in general for any presentation (I picked no hardware). The following week is Live A Live and the week after is Xenoblade 3.

No optimism for any type of Switch hardware atm. I feel like a Mini first party Direct could happen on the 12th/14th? If not, I'd wager we'll get a twitter drop of MK8DLC that week instead.

MK8 tracks get a twitter drop in july, no direct until early August which will have a Splatoon 3 blowout and announce the Metroid Prime Remaster and Bayonetta 3 date. No hardware, no September direct

Yay new thread, it was fun to read through!

Whatever helps time pass more quickly is welcome to me lolol

I wonder if this thread will descent into madness like the previous one, that sure was a wild ride!

I'm voting for a partner mini in July. There's nothing tangible info of an imminent new console, and Nintendo can wait for September to show their cards.
There are still some 3rd party games I'm curious to see (Outer Wilds, Kingdom Come...).

After long, long thinking I think I figured it out. We will create a GoFundMe and we as a Fami will collect as least $40 000, then @Raccoon will buy a Nintendo stocks, this great guy will then have a opportunity to ask Nintendo management a question during shareholders meeting in Kyoto, Japan. The question will be along the lines: "Hey gentlemen, do you know Famiboards? It's a cool Nintendo forum you should check it out, but as for the question which is for Mr. Miyamoto, with all due respect you beutiful Creative Fella, what's the deal with Pikmin 4? Like seriously man?" Raccoon will learn this text in japanese, then he will sell these stocks and we all will make profit.

Makes me think. Did they really put together a Treehouse just for Live A Live? Or did they record a bunch of other games to be released after the next Direct?

I noticed the SplatoonJP twitter account put out three news tidbits today, when normally they'd only do one. Rushing to get it all out before a certain event? :)

They won’t do a Treehouse for just Live A Live we will definitely see more games. I bet the next one will be Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Fire Emblem Direct because Nintendo has decided to take the exact opposite route as Sony. That is, becoming entirely a Japanese-centred company.

Is something wrong with me? The possibility of new hardware makes me super nervous and not excited. Nintendo has such good thing going with the Switch and it almost has everything I want, but I'm afraid there will be a lack of backward compatibility, there will be Switch "'''pro'''' exclusive games, etc.

I feel like we JUST got the OLED. With the hassle of any new hardware launch post-2020, I just have a lot of anxiety about what "new hardware" could mean for Nintendo.

I'm in a one-person bubble that doesn't care about the graphical performance of AAA games at all as long as they 'work,' and has never docked my Switch, so I may just be the extreme minority...
