I'm a strong believer in a september direct, but I'm guessing there will be some news through Twitter in the very least before that.

I'm under the impression and it accelerated since yesterday, that it's widely accepted the new switch is gonna be revealed in the next weeks.
Is that right or we gearing for a new emotional trainwreck?
Because I wrote off 2022 a while ago, don't put me in the back in the mood for nothing!

it's bullshit, but I believe it

Is something wrong with me? The possibility of new hardware makes me super nervous and not excited. Nintendo has such good thing going with the Switch and it almost has everything I want, but I'm afraid there will be a lack of backward compatibility, there will be Switch "'''pro'''' exclusive games, etc.

I feel like we JUST got the OLED. With the hassle of any new hardware launch post-2020, I just have a lot of anxiety about what "new hardware" could mean for Nintendo.

I'm in a one-person bubble that doesn't care about the graphical performance of AAA games at all as long as they 'work,' and has never docked my Switch, so I may just be the extreme minority...
One thing I’d say, regardless of when new hardware drops, is the original Switch has a very strong back of the year already lined up and I strongly suspect 2023 will be another very strong year overall. Switch will not be abandoned the same way Wii and Wii U were before, during, and after an inevitable hardware transition. The engagement of the Switch audience remains strong and the install base of the next console will not develop quite as quickly as demand will far outstrip supply. I expect Nintendo will themselves also have their first real cross gen period between the Switch and the next Switch.

There's a difference between widely accepted and it being a distinct possibility.

Rumors have existed for close to a year and a half now that a new more powerful Switch was launching in the window of late 2022 to early 2023. Nothing about those rumors has changed whatsoever. We have heard a few new whispers from various Chinese forums (the veracity of said whispers is not currently known) and the new tidbit about their raw materials level is interesting, though inconclusive.

However if the plan was/is to launch late 2022, then it would very likely be revealed this July. This July has always been the expected date of reveal in the case that they were gonna get it out this year.

I hope I'm wrong, but unless any of the usual reliable insiders have anything to say, I don't think anything will happen in July.

It's been hard to relate to the negative feedback in response to what Nintendo showed in June. It seems pretty clear that they are spreading out their usual E3-level announcements over a few weeks. It makes everything easier to digest. I fully expect a first-party Direct in the first half of July.

I don't pop into these sorts of threads often so have fun speculating!

I too, entered the path towards complete self destruction by following this thread. What are you guys doing to me?

Ok, it was strange seeing the board being hyped about it these past days while there was a lot of pushback about the console even existing outside of the tech thread.Thought I was missing something.

At the very least, I think we get a Metroid Prime 1 HD reveal this month. I don't see Nintendo waiting until September to reveal it.

Mid-July, no hardware announcements. We're not getting new hardware this year. I think if we're getting hardware in March of next year, they'll announce in the fall.

I'm also very tired, but that's because I got up early to watch a certain TV show today

Incidentally, the only potential outcome in the poll that I think is entirely unlikely is another Partner Showcase. The June one was a very rich and diverse showing, with too many games featured to suggest that they'd do another so soon. It was even branded to suggest this: instead of "June 2022" as the 2020 ones were, it was "6.28.2022"

Please don't tell me that this tweet alone was the basis for the creation of this thread. I thought there was more smoke lol.
There is smoke tnks to that inventory info, which has been widely discussed on the new Switch HW thread. I believe there are some comments by NateDrake other than his twit that one could consider as an indication of a nearby reveal of the new product (but he clearly isn't openning anything new about that at the moment)

Four pages already? Excellent. Let the madness begin.

Excellent thread of course, @Raccoon. In terms of the question at hand, it is certainly possible for Bayo 3 to be dated and Prime HD to be announced via Twitter, but it just seems... not that likely to me? Like I don't really know why they'd do that. The Twitter drops worked well enough in 2020, but it would be a huge marketing shift from 2021 and I just don't know what would prompt that.

In terms of the new hardware, it's a matter of when (not if), and whether it's marketed as a revision or a successor. I don't have much of an opinion of the latter question, but the former seems like there's basically two upcoming windows that are serious possibilities: this Fall/Holiday season or next Spring, with BOTW2. I am hoping for the former, obviously, and I think there is a decent amount of smoke pointing that way, Nintendo's recent Partner Showcase being an example. But we shall see.

I gotta say that even though I'm that person, (The "E3 is Christmas, I miss it so much, General Directs are big parties, community events and highlights" person) I've started to look at "piecemeal marketing" more favourably now these last few days.

Like, something like a Twitter drop has its neat benefits. It's kind of fun when something like a Xenoblade Direct or an Origami King announcement just ... happens. It's a pleasant surprise, and each announcement gets its time in the sun.

Dunno if it's Stockholm syndrome talking, but was thinking about it.

Nate retweeted his October 2021 podcast to reiterate he has nothing new to say since the new Switch talk heated up again due to the inventory talk. He said he won't be commenting on it , noting it may or may not be relevant. My take is nothing has changed really from what he's heard since late last year, so still a likely 2022 or early 2023 release and devkits have been out for some time.

I can totally relate to this, even as a publicly Direct-obsessed person. Pikmin 3 Deluxe getting announced on a random summer afternoon was really nice, as was Paper Mario.

That being said, we've entered a new golden era of Directs. Every Direct since February 2021 has been a greater spectacle since the last, and despite the strange choice to have a Partner Showcase instead of a big June Direct, I have a feeling that the trend isn't dead yet.

Direct, twitter drop, Morse code - I don't care how they do it, I just want Nintendo to announce Metroid Prime Remake.

people wanted a direct thread for this month
I have nothing against a new speculation thread. The title and the poll threw me off because I legitimately thought there was a hardware reveal event scheduled for this month.

Yes. This is all I want! But I'm afraid of the off-chance that we have to wait until September.

Honestly I still kinda think they would have kept Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade 3 for the next console if a clean-cut new generation was imminent. Because Monolith reportedly struggled to make do with the Switch hardware, and a new gen console would have gotten rid of that problem. And Splatoon 3 because the Switch already has Splatoon 2 and 3 seems mostly similar to a casual player. Not something that would necessarily be needed on the Switch. Welcome, but not needed. Splatoon would be a massive franchise to get a new console off the ground in Japan too, it's huge there.

So at most i can see a pro console with DLSS or smth, but stilk part of the Switch family. No exclusive games, but all the Switch games in better resolution and/or framerate. Maybe some games will get enhancement patches. But nothing more imo.

I mean I agree. I don't need a new Nintendo console, personally. If it's a hardware revision I am fine with it, but if it's a clean cut, then I will be upset (irrationally so, but still), because I really don't need to waste away my time trying to hunt down another impossible to get system just to play the best version of botw2. And that's really all i would really need a conzole with more power for cause Xeno 3 is releasing for the Switch now and i play all graphically intensive games on my os5. Also I am running out of space on my tv board because the ps5 is massive and I am not ready to retire my Switch yet. So for all I care, Nintendo can take their time.

There is no reasonable doubt that it exists after the Nvidia leak. There is some debate about timeframe, although I think the reasonable range is a fair bit smaller than some seem to think.
