As someone who didn't have a PS1/2 growing up I'm also glad we're getting all these remasters of Square Enix's classics. It's still bizarre seeing FFVII-XII, SaGa Frontier, and Legend of Mana on my Switch.
I agree it’s bizarre. Having been around during the SNES -> PS1 transition it feels like either rewriting history or a major homecoming at times

I don't want to act all "well, ackchually", but in fact they are going to call it (Everybody Hates) Hey! Pikmin, just fyi.

You mean that game that was supposedly almost done year ago?

Pikmin 4 needs to be a thing. Hopefully we get it withing a couple of years and Nintendo updates 1 and 2 as well.
Ok here’s the dream slate

Pikmin 4, made from the ground up with co-op as an option in mind, coming later this year/next year

BUT

Pikmin 1 + 2, with full co-op (olimar cloned himself for 1 or something IDK) remade in the modern Pikmin engine, coming much sooner.

I completely forgot about Dragon Quest, pray forgive brethren.

Part of me wishes Square did US physical releases for all of their old school games because I'm a sucker for collecting JRPG game. Part of me is also glad that Square doesn't do this because I am a poor dude.

That would be cool, but that is a lot of Pikmin in a short while. I think we get something Pikmin by the end of 2023, be it 1/2, just 1, or 4.

i believe in halo on switch because viva pinata ds and age of empires ds and diddy kong racing ds existed and i played them and halo ds was a thing that actually existed but no one played it. so it's not hard to believe in that. I'm even kind of surprised microsoft stopped at cuphead/ori/minecraft/lucky's tale on the switch, considering their current strategy. I don't know if I'm delusional for expecting more but I'm expecting more.
I'm honestly of two minds; on the one hand I fully believe much like you based on past precedent (funnily enough I never played Viva Pinata, Age of Empires or DKR on DS, but my friend hacked his and we got to dabble a bit in the Halo DS build that leaked with local multiplayer and honestly it was pretty wild).

On the other, truly I think the miracle game was Ori's sequel if only because iirc the other games either had already released on Switch or were mid development for Switch before being scooped up by Microsoft.

I wouldn't say you're delusional for expecting more from Microsoft, but I'm just self-aware enough to realize I'm jaded when it comes to Nintendo lol. I know it's completely unreasonable; Microsoft comes with proposal that makes Nintendo money, Nintendo carries minimal risk, Nintendo gets 30% cut of sales, what's not to love? The onus is on MS to deliver a product that meets/exceeds expectations and puts their reputation on the line, and given the mostly complete state MCC sits in, it's not a terrible assumption to believe it could be delivered.

But then I always swing wildly between endless optimism and crushing pessimism 🙃

I know I've said this elsewhere online but I don't know if I've said it on this beautiful website so let me just make sure I've said it here too:

Pikmin 3 Deluxe's co-op modes were SO good that I do not want to play a Pikmin game without co-op ever again in my life. I'm a 20 year Pikmin fan, my girlfriend hadn't played one before in her life (she has seen them played but never played them herself). She and I got into such an incredibly in-sync rhythm with that game that, in almost no time, we were working together and getting stuff done. It actually made the game somewhat easy, because it's obvious the levels weren't designed for two people to be able to be thinking/working at once. That's why I want Pikmin 4 to be made from the ground up with co-op in mind.

Not my picture but this happened to my brother's 3DS while I was using it. Well, I guess I did this to my brother's 3DS.

nidento pls
That happened twice with me. The 3DS was nit designed for heavy Smash use lol

For the record, Cuphead and Lucky's Tale aren't true Microsoft games.

The only IPs that are properly owned by Microsoft that are on Switch (outside of NSO) are Minecraft and Ori. Minecraft at this point is pretty much a big multiplatform game like COD, Madden, etc so it's not like Switch is getting special favours from MS in that regard. Ori is kinda weird, but it's been stated that it happened because Moon Studios (an indie developer NOT owned by Microsoft) pushed for it to come to Switch.

yeah, they aren't true Microsoft owned games but Microsoft pretty much funded them. The exact situation with Nintendo and Fatal Frame/The Wonderful 101. Which I think it's something to consider or maybe not.

In the end I think Microsoft is okay with sharing some of their non-Minecraft IPs with Nintendo if it doesn't require like any actual resources from them.

Stuff like Banjo-Kazooie being in Smash and NSO is a perfect example of that, all they really have to do is sign some papers and let Nintendo handle the rest (though Rare did collaborate/have oversight with the Smash devs for the former). There's a big world of difference between just letting Nintendo distribute the original untouched BK ROM on N64 NSO, than actually wasting time and money porting over the XBLA version onto a competitor's platform. Like what I just said, Moon Studios are still essentially an indie developer and they were the ones who did the Switch ports for the Ori duology. Hell Microsoft didn't bother publishing Ori 2, instead letting Iam8bit have the honor.

Going by what Phil, things probably would be different if Nintendo was willing to allow Game Pass on Switch, but uh...I don't see that happening. Ever.

I was stoked to see Eastward on sale since I been wanting to play it, but for only 10% off is a no deal from me for now. I'll continue to knock out more of my backlog I guess.

Honestly one of the most baffling things I've ever seen a company do is Nintendo putting out goddamn Pikmin and Dr. Mario on mobile instead of Nintendogs.

Was it pride or something? Did they want to be more 'innovative' with mobile stuff like with Mario Run instead of doing the most obvious choice that might-as-well-be tailor-made for mobile? Or did they just lack the foresight to see the golden goose of an IP they were sitting on? I simply can't see a world in which Pikmin Bloom was seen as more of a good investment than "a lifestyle game where you raise cute puppies/kittens."
The walking minigame in Nintendogs but in real life, turning pokestops into dog parks where your dog can meet IRL other people's dogs, mario kart live integration.... I want it.

I want to do serious damage to my backlog this year so this means no impulse buying on sales for a while.

I am getting the dlc for doom eternal though. Already beaten that game last year

Best Buy getting rid of GCU was secretly the best thing that ever happened to me. Before, I would purchase sooooo many games on day 1. A lot of them were either impulse buys or games that I figured I would get to at some point but I barely touched them for months on end. Now I am extremely selective and I almost never buy a game at full price unless I know it has a ton of value in the package. Or I have a gift card.

Also, I don't buy games on sale unless I plan on playing them right away or the discount is super super super deep (like sub $10). JRPGs are a no go unless I am definitely playing them now. My only exception is Black Friday. I will usually stock up on games for the following year. I went a little heavier this time but Gamestop combo-ed B2G1 with their BF prices. Not my fault :p

As a result, my backlog has dropped significantly. Where as before I would have 50+ PS3 games, I currently have 11 PS4/5, 9 Switch, and 4 Wii-U games. That is a lot better that I am used to and it keeps getting lower.

halo ds was a thing that actually existed but no one played it. so it's not hard to believe in that

Just to be clear, no one played "Halo DS" because it was a fanmade prototype that used a modded version of GoldenEye: Rogue Agent [source - video evidence]. It was never released, and the only sign of its existence was an IGN staffer showing a video of him playing it - and never explaining his source for the demo.

Two Bungie devs came out and said that the Halo DS prototype was not made by Bungie, and someone may have made it for a pitch which happens a lot [source].

"...it’s very likely that somebody at some point in time created a prototype and tried to pitch it... which is probably what Casamassina is talking about... but there has never been an officially funded or sanctioned development of any sort of DS Halo game."

Bungie has denied rumors of Halo coming to a Nintendo platform twice in the past [source] [source].

I do think Halo on Switch was in discussion, but not because of the Halo DS rumor.

Yeah, I forgot this catch. Thanks! I do think they considered hard because they bothered with lots of Microsoft owned IPs on the DS.

I also meant to point out that any other Microsoft IP is a vastly different situation from Halo—Halo is their single killer app, the one golden egg IP that they know is the reason why many people buy their hardware. I don't think their past IPs coming to Switch is evidence at all of Halo coming to Switch.

I'm not trying to be contrarian—to me it's the difference between Nintendo letting Fire Emblem on PlayStation, and Nintendo letting Mario on PlayStation.

...but...I held it in my hands...I played Slayer 1v1 with my friend on the High Ground map from Halo 3 with DS level graphics...

It was all a lie?!

Eh, Microsoft is a whole different breed than Nintendo and PlayStation. First of all, they are not actively participating in console race, being in third place is ok by them. Second, hoarding all of those devs is not an act to make Xbox better platform, it's just for making a lot of money.

Sure, newer stuff like Halo Infinite and Gears 5 won't be appearing on other platforms at all but I doubt they have strict rules on older legacy games or smaller stuff like Ori. And that legacy titles should include Halo. Colin Moriarty once said Phil tried to bring MCC to PlayStation, so the relation between MS and Halo might not be as tight as Nintendo and Mario.

If Halo MCC Switch project is still alive, we shouldn't be hearing on this for quite a while, this is a massive undertaking in every way. Most likely pitched by Saber, a single game from them take more than a year to port to Switch (we still haven't got an update on Kingdom Come!). We need to wait even longer to say for sure. At least rumors are there.

Nobody's gonna understand besides Sus most likely, but I loathe the Toronto Sun (Think Canadian Fox News)

At least there's some level of enjoyment reading the nonsense posted there if you a laugh, but after a while, it just becomes sad :/

Nintendo News right now = 💤
Nintendo in March = :cool::cool::cool:
