StarTopic Nintendo Direct Speculation |ST8| Press Your (Nintendo Direct) Luck!

was there a rumor about an Indie event in March?
I think the person by account name "Brazil" said something about a possible Indie World "before the General Direct (probably March), and a General Direct in April."

Here's what he said, and a link to the post here
Here’s what I’ve heard post-Friday: Direct in April (general or mini, dunno), Indie World before that (probably March).

June for Switch 2 reveal.

Everything in flux always, but I’m feeling good, so eh.

Is that even a month, I thought we‘re in January 3…
Anyway, every month is a good month for a Silksong announcement and the sooner, the better.
January, a month so good they made 12 of it. And gave a nickname to each one so people don't have to keep saying January 2, 3, 4, etc...

The only reason why I am not sure if Nintendo will work again with Mercury is because the spanish journalism wrote about the crunch and a very bad job conditions of devs when they were making Dread.
Dread is today's best-selling Metroid game. It has received critical acclaim, awards and nominations. Mercury is certainly working on the next 2D Metroid. It took Sakamoto 15 years, after Fusion, to find a team for 2D Metroid, and he's not about to let them go now. At the very least, if EPD have concerns, they can forge a closer partnership, as they did with Next Level Games.

Iirc MercurySteam is owned by Nordisk Film, NLG were independent prior to Nintendo aquiring them.

Does Mother 3 / Earthbound 64 count?

Earthbound 64 had images released for it fairly quickly after announcement.

Metroid Prime 4 has no details other than being made by Retro Studios.

The only other possible detail is that Prime 4 was announced as first person back in 2017, but it's not even clear that will remain true.

We're 7 years in with no screenshots or information.

We don't even have any leaks pointing at any art, story, or gameplay details.

Yeah with Easter this week and silence from most insiders, I'm thinking March is off the table for any kind of Direct. Question is will we get a General Direct in April, an Indie World Direct or nothing at all? Pretty mediocre year for Nintendo so far so I'm hoping for something to happen soon.

The next Direct will be happening on April 8th at 11 am PDT.

So every Nintendo fan in North America trying to catch the solar eclipse will have to decide between a Direct or a once in a lifetime opportunity, while every Nintendo fan in eastern Asia and Oceania will have to stay up past midnight and catch it.
This may sound silly but I could see Nintendo avoiding April 8th for this exact reason.

They want as many eyes on Directs as possible. North America forms a major part of their sales and they know damn well that a lot of people would be more interested in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. They must know that if they hold a Direct on the 8th, there will be a loss in viewership – maybe a relatively minor one in the grand scheme of things, but a loss nonetheless. Plus they will want a day to stay in the news cycle afterwards and not be overshadowed (HAHA) by the solar eclipse.

... April 8th is also a Monday so they were never doing a Direct on April 8th regardless of the eclipse...

Knowledge like that is only known by us extreme video game nerds

I guarantee if you asked every person who bought Dread only a small minority knows anything about that

I know precisely because I'm spaniard. However, while that might or might not be true, spanish journalism is as shitty and ridiculous nowadays as it can be. Trust me.

If you look closely you can see Miyamoto, Furukawa and other head figures throwing darts on a 3-month calendar titled "When is the next Direct?"

Those tree branches look familiar...

Even with the well-corroborated rumors of a Switch 2 delay, kind of wild March came and went without even a peep

Guess we won't hear anything until summer at the earliest

So are we getting a direct in April? What is the current rumor/evidence looking to be
It’s the same it’s been for a month now. If an Indie World is happening this month it’s most likely announced tomorrow, with Wednesday still possible. Otherwise we are waiting until April for a big drop of potential Nintendo news. They might be letting Peach have the spotlight right now.

Time for a General Direct prediction/wish list! I’m gonna try and throw some fun ones in here that aren’t rumoured/obvious, because it’s just more fun that way :D Also, I’m just gonna focus on first/second-party since that’s where my expertise lies.

Nintendo Direct 4.10.2024

Opener:

-Fire Emblem 4 Remake reveal trailer / 8.29.2024

Headlines/Spotlights:

-Paper Mario TTYD gets new content trailer (side story: Luigi’s story) / 5.23.2024

-Splatoonville trailer: an ambitious experimental spin-off of Splatoon that goes for RPG gameplay, while making use of Splatoon lore and worldbuilding. / 10.24.2024

-The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD & Twilight Princess HD. Very similar to the Pikmin 1 + 2 reveal: the games are shadowdropped digitally immediately and can be bought separately, or as a bundle for a reduced price. Physical dual pack releases on 6.6.2024

-Mario & Luigi: Triple Trouble reveal trailer: wha-? Who’s that that’s joined the brothers on their latest RPG adventure? Could it be… Princess Peach?? / Holiday 2024

-Tomodachi: Live it Up! reveal trailer. A sequel to the Tomodachi Life series, this entry comes with many features from the 3DS title, but it also allows you to explore areas of the island on foot as your look-alike and interact with your islanders by walking up and talking to them! / Early 2025

-Chibi-Robo: Surge Protector reveal trailer. Finally, a true sequel to the original Chibi-Robo in line with the original gameplay, has new locations and story to enjoy. / Holiday 2024

Closer:

Metroid segment:

-Prime 2 HD and Prime 3 HD dual pack. No shadowdrop so it doesn’t conflict with Zelda shadowdrops. This dual pack will release physically and digitally on 7.11.2024

-Metroid Game & Watch system. Enjoy the original Metroid and Metroid II on this Game & Watch system, just like the Mario and Zelda ones. Releases alongside the 2/3HD pack on 7.11.2024

-Metroid Prime 4 full reveal. It’s everything you’ve ever wanted. / 11.14.2024

So are we getting a direct in April? What is the current rumor/evidence looking to be
I think we might have a clearer picture tomorrow, based on the possiblity of an Indie World this week! However, even if we don't get an Indie World this week, I do generally think it makes sense for Nintendo to have a Direct either in April or May that begins to detail second half games! I think it's fairly possible there's an Indie World next month and then a Direct in May, maybe right between Endless Ocean and Thousand-Year Door

Imagine if we didn't hear that Switch 2 was internally delayed. I think people would be freaking out right now about not hearing anything.

So basically the second best year for the switch

Watch switch 2 get announced this week lmaoo
Honestly, it's crazy to say but I wouldn't say it couldn't happen 😭😭. I think it's extremely unlikely but I think anytime between today and within their yearly investors meeting in May is free reign for when they can officially confirm it. I just wonder if a Direct or the confirmation comes first 😭

I feel like April isn't going to have much TBH. A TTYD trailer and highlighting the Spring Splatfest, maybe an Indie World in there.

Opens with Pokemon Stellar Black 1+2 and Stellar White 1+2, features Terastalization, November 14
Animal Crossing Festival, you can transfer your character and town from New Horizons save, October 24
New Dragon Quest III HD2D trailer, Holiday 2024
Mega Man 12, Fall 2024
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, August 29
Nier Replicant, Summer 2024
Tears of the Kingdom: Zonai Garage, a new Switch Online App service that lets you share and download builds
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD + Twilight Princess HD, July 18
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin, Fall 2024
