StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

What makes me even more hopeful that Switch 2 will be a great system is that Nintendo seems to understand well that the competition in the industry is heating up even more the coming years, Nintendo will have to go all out against all these new challenges and deliver a great product with great first and third party support to stand tall during the next era.

With Sony’s current PlayStation outlook for both hardware and software, Nintendo could coast on the Switch for another year, even with the PS5 Pro in the horizon

Waiting longer to launch Switch 2 (closer to Sony’s next hardware release) means being closer to being even more outshined in tech specs. There needs to be as much length of time as possible for Switch 2 to be in parallel with the current Sony and Microsoft hardware, allowing for better user growth too. And ideally as much time as possible before both Sony and Microsoft releases their own handhelds.

I don’t think you are wrong, but in my opinion, they’d have to have some new games after Peach to try and carry some momentum through the year. And they might have those! But if they did, I’m surprised a February General Direct hasn’t taken place to start outlining what’s in store for the year. (Outside of the lost COVID year(s), I don’t think I remember a Switch year where so few games were on the horizon or where there wasn’t at least one huge tentpole game dated.) That said, it’s only Feb 16th, so anything could still happen!

Another circle I’m trying to square is that starting in April, Nintendo has another tough FY to deal with when it comes to comparables because of the triple-punch of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, TotK, and Wonder. With Switch sales seeing a natural decline, I’d assume they have to have some sort of plan to try and ensure their profits don’t see a large backslide.

That all said, I nearly fell out of my seat when I read that Sony said they won’t have any large 1st party studio releases in 2024.

The plan is the Switch 2. The Switch business will clearly decline hard this year by design. The amazing success of the SMB movie helped but last year was always going to be a last hurrah and the 15m hardware target went from being hard to reach to revised up to 15.5.

I don't think we can expect much more.

It's still hard to believe that MS was so dumb with their scheduling that Nintendo had to delay something that likely had more work in it than their podcast.

I’ll be choosing to cope and believe that this is a Switch 2 reveal

Edit: That cope has gone out the window, although a Partner showcase implies a Switch 2 reveal is close as well

Pyoro posted on Twitter saying "Act II: Rebirth"

Assuming they're solely a Nintendo source, maybe the Partner Showcase was pushed next week?

Edit: They confirmed it's the Partner Showcase next week.

If they were willing to move a direct back, then maaaaaybe they are willing to pull a switch 2 reveal forward

I'm not stretching, you are

Well Pyoro confirms a partners for next week, so the hope for the Switch 2 reveal is back on :)

Well, different sources and all (for the Direct stuff and the Switch 2 stuff), but basically Pyoro just validated Nate and Necro ... and Grubb.

Everyone was in some way right.

There was never any link between the partner showcase and the Switch 2 reveal.

I think you misunderstood the other poster.

This being a Partner Showcase instead of a General Direct makes the Switch 2 reveal rumors much more likely to be true.

If it was a General Direct instead, then I would be skeptical they’re revealing Switch 2 in March

That is the “link” - not a direct one.

A full on General Direct less than a month before Switch 2 reveal does not make any sense

100%’ing this. Just look through the post history. It’s not over any “couple of” posts. It’s the constant behavior that goes back longer time than recently.

Anyway it’s still just a temporary threadban.

Don't even need to go through the history. Anyone hoping the console will be weak so you'll be wrong and disappointed is more interested in being right than a good discussion.

Pyoro just silenced all the people saying the Switch 2 March reveal isn't happening because insiders were wrong about a partner showcase.

Oh, I agree. I’m an H-wunner, and will be even when I pick the console up at release in H2 (😅)

I was just partaking in the hypothetical that Nintendo could coast on Switch until 2025. (But I know I did myself no favors in relaying that with what I wrote/how I wrote it.)

It seems that Grubb was right and Nintendo wanted to be away from the Microsoft nonsense , really makes you wonder if a Microsoft game will be included

“Nobody wants to hear that, but this one is very intense.

After consulting 5 sources from 3 different continents, all echoing basically the same thing, The Control X today reveals: the launch of the Switch's successor should only happen in 2025.

Details in the episode.” If anyone was curious.

Who is this guy

In a way "we were right all along, but plans changed" is a really convenient explanation for insiders.

But plans do change all the fucking time.

Yeah, no.

If Switch was, for the whole calendar year 2024, the main console and focus, we wouldn't be getting a Partner Showcase. Because early year Directs lay out the schedule for most of the year well into late summer.

Why else would Nintendo move this? It has to have a Xbox game.

Otherwise, there would've been more than 6 hours between the Direct and the Xbox podcast, enough time in between for both to "co-exist".

I think the February Direct was always going to be the final Switch direct (of any sort) and that the reveal of the Switch 2 was going to be between March & June regardless.

I don’t think it made a difference whether it was a partner, general or mini, although a partner does make Switch 2 feel even closer and more real since it adds the flavour that Nintendo are saving themselves for the big reveal.

Oh uh, that's crazy. Are they saying that releasing in 2025 is the "logical" option, or are they hearing actual rumours suggesting a 2025 release?

Again, the very Partner Showcase that's basically just got "confirmed" again by Pyoro, goes against the notion that ReDraketed won't release this calendar year.

... Just a moment...

Nintendo is in the Fiscal Year 2025 ... i swear to god if this is just a misunderstanding how fiscal and calendar years work for companies ....

If it's in 2025, then I don't see the point in revealing it in March.

That too. Not only is the Switch software schedule ... barren ... and they're not doing a general Direct.

But announcing the successor almost a year in advanced would just guarantee their Switch sales stagnating if not dropping.

A General Direct means more 1st party content, which they opted not to do. They released new Side Order trailer which could have went into a Direct. New Princess Peach Showtime content as well that could have went into a Direct.

They are obviously “moving things along” and focusing on the bigger prize.

If they saved the Side Order and Princess Peach Showtime content for a General Direct instead among with other 1st party content I’d have feel deflated because that would make it more likely Switch 2 March reveal isn’t true.

It’s fine if you want to say they’re not related. For the rest of us, we are relieved it’s a partner showcase, not a General.

If anyone wants to know what he says in the podcast, I just listened and am fluent in the language.

He basically says that according to some of his sources the Switch 2 launch is now going to happen in the first 3 months of 2025. Some of his sources even said that the "launch was delayed" and it is Nintendo's main priority to still launch the hardware within the next fiscal year (basically, before April 2025).
