Having one Xbox game (let's say Pentiment) showing up at a Nintendo event isn't a big deal; they've already had both Ori games do exactly that without much incident. Personally I think the plan was to have that happen and then have the general positivity/buzz around that lead into their original plan of having a "we're planning to bring a couple other games to Nintendo and Playstation too, here's what that looks like" talk towards the end of the month that laid out the other 3 games

But a couple weeks ago there was this flood of people claiming everything from Sea of Thieves to Starfield was coming to Xbox and folks started freaking out about how clearly Xbox was preparing to leave the hardware space imminently; given that, I can kinda see how they'd decide "we weren't ready to talk about this just yet, but we need to move things up to get control of the message and we definitely can't have that Switch port announced before we do because that'll just pour even more gasoline on the fire"

Does it make perfect sense? No, but then frankly neither does every decision made by every company
I do agree here! It just is interesting to see that they pivoted in a way that put it directly in front of Direct that would've announced it instead of airing the episode yesterday. As you mentioned, they saw the mounting rumors and had to act, so maybe, between the three involved in the podcast, they could only get time yesterday to film that and then post it today, it just is a little weird (if not, as I mentioned, interesting) to see them schedule it at the same time when there would've also been other games involved, some of which also likely would've been announced for Xbox in some way! :)

I'm kind of laughing at the idea that Nintendo isn't frightened by all the Pokemon fans/haters but fucking Jez Corden is enough to scare them into delaying a Nintendo Direct lol

I'm thinking we just hear nothing until a console reveal.
I seriously doubt September Direct would be the last Switch 1 Direct ever, heading into Switch 2 reveal presentation.

We'll get a Direct, whatever and whenever it is, at some point before Switch 2 reveal. I'm almost certain of that.

My working theory is that Nintendo's partner showcase does have some Xbox titles in it and has been planned for today (maybe?) the entire time.

But then there were meltdowns from Xbox influencers thinking Xbox is leaving the console business because it was said their 1st party titles are going multiplatforms, Microsoft/XBox had to pivot.

Nintendo got wind of this XBox Podcast event, opted to reschedule the Partner Showcase, which would've not been a big deal (not from their POV, but is big deal here and Twitter, etc apparently), because part of those meltdowns were related to Xbox 1st party going multiplatform specifically, so it's a bit too on nose, they thought why not just reschedule?

It's not the first time we have gotten 1st party Xbox titles either: Cuphead and Ori and the Blind Forest, for example. It's weird that there are meltdowns now all of sudden, whereas there were none before (or were there meltdowns in the past too over those?)

I agree, I think Nintendo felt like it was no big deal to reschedule due to the recency of those meltdowns, especially if it's just a partner showcase.
Cuphead is not a first party game from Microsoft, it was an indie with temporary exclusivity. But hey, we still have the Ori and even Banjo and rare games in the NSO, which are first party.

If it's worth anything, I'll have a follow-up to last week's back-compatibility story in tomorrow's episode of my podcast that I believe people will enjoy discussing, even if they don't particularly believe me as a source.

Something to tide things over =P

To the person who was wondering about it, I "leak" (report on) this stuff because it always brings new info to the front. Not dates, but the meaty stuff.

In all seriousness, thanks for the headsup~ Looks to be content for the Future Hardware thread

In large part, how does everyone feel about the Direct now? Does this change anyone's opinion on what the format could be for it or is everyone staying put on the Partner Showcase?
My first bet for February was a standard Direct on either the 7th/8th or the 21st/22nd. I thought Nintendo would want to get information about Side Order, Peach, LM2, Paper Mario out all at once, provide information on some sort of NSO updates, and announce one or two more games for the summer.

That being said, when thinking about why on Earth they'd go down the Partner Showcase road, I got hopeful it might mean we see 2024 Switch 1 releases which come with Switch 2 enhancements. People have suggested it for a while, but I'd just begun to seriously consider it recently, and so I wondered if Nintendo would save the bulk of their 2024 line up for a Switch 2 reveal featuring enhanced footage. But I came to that conclusion more as a way of making sense of something that didn't make all that much sense to me.

Two things I'm confident on:

1) in some capacity Switch 2 is officially revealed before the end of March. I say this less because of rumours and more because of the combination of the fiscal year ending, GDC happening, and manufacturing probably either being underway or starting soon. The possibility of investor frustration or further development or manufacturing leaks increases the longer Nintendo go without saying anything. For those reasons, I think March is reveal month, but I don't know what format that reveal would take.

2) if Nintendo do a Partner Showcase this month, the odds of a bigger presentation with first party software shoot up for March and April, given the relatively light line up for 2024.

This is a totally honest question, but:

if plans changed for the Direct date, could the format also change?

So instead of a Partners Showcase, we get a General Direct?

No it would have been a pre-recorded video that was likely made several weeks ago. Just sitting somewhere waiting to be published by Nintendo's marketing team. Probably next week.

For repeatedly pushing the blame on insiders for the level of harassment they face you have been permanently threadbanned. -xghost777, VolcanicDynamo, meatbag, Tangerine Cookie
ah yes victim blaming. Go off I guess.
All they have to do if they want to stop making people mad is literally just stop leaking stuff. This goes to all of them. Nate, Necro, Pyroro or whatever he's called. Directs would be better off without each eventual one circling around the same five names and having people pinning their hopes on these people's predictions/largely inferred assumptions.

Which mind you, my anger ain't placed at Necro, or because we didn't get a direct, I got exactly what I wanted today, as I wanted the insiders to be wrong, what bothers me is how easily the goalposts have shifted. No leaker is fallible if they can always just lean back on claiming "x thing got delayed."

Seems very unlikely they’d record new footage and re-edit everything and cancel the marketing plans for partners etc inside of a week or so.

In addition to what @Kevin said, if it was indeed a Partner Direct I'd assume it was for very specific reasons (like wanting to reveal their 2024 tentpoles alongside Switch 2) and those reasons wouldn't change as easily as a release date would.

tbf the format is usually the thing that's most nebulous anyway. it could easily end up not being a partner direct if it happens next week. dates are what are usually reliable.

This may come as a surprise to some, but most people enjoy attention to some degree. That's why people engage in conversations. It's fun to interact with people, and if you don't have that attention, you're not really interacting.

Insiders have no obligation to leak anything, but they choose to do so because they enjoy participating and fostering these discussions. Many of us here probably would share the same kind of information if we had access to it. It's not a horrible thing to do by itself, and I imagine it's a big part of what helps these communities thrive.

Of course, these insiders are probably well aware of the risks when sharing information that may turn out to be wrong. Unfortunately, it's gonna happen, but it doesn't make it any less bad, and it's no reason to be defending the people attacking them now. Just because they know the risk, it doesn't mean they deserve it. That's called victim blaming. We're talking about people with positive track records who do their best to keep people informed. It can be deflating when things don't pan out the way we expected them to, but why do you need to make others feel bad? Why do you think that's okay or justifiable? Especially in a generally positive community like Fami, it's a shame to see people treat insiders like they're less deserving of respect just because things didn't line up this time.

Anyway, video games amirite?

awesome. I will make a summary here for those who don't understand Portuguese.

I think Nintendo simply wanted to give some breathing space between the Microsoft briefing and their Direct since it will likely feature an Xbox game and Nintendo is aware how upset and worked up Xbox fans got over the news that their beloved first party franchises could release on those evil enemy consoles.

Nintendo decided to give it a few days to a week to let people calm down and stop caring.

So... Partner Showcase next week then. Didn't need Jeff Grubb to figure this one out. 😄

You get a general direct if Nintendo has enough first party games to announce. A week delay won't change that.

Oh, it's in Portuguese lmao xDDD

My mind assumed that, since he spoke in English, it was gonna be in that idiom ahhahaha

P.S. Consider starting making the podcast in English! Just a tip

Yeah you're just a sad person. Like I said, says a lot about you and I'm gonna leave that at that.

I see no difference to what you are saying to those who say shit like social media influencers don't deserve privacy cause it's part of the job. Anyways there is no point in arguing this, have fun victim blaming.

I get what you are saying but it is a huge deal and headache to move a direct. It’s not as simple as it seems

Are you referring to a general Direct which is live streaming normally, or a Partner Showcase direct which is normally just a YouTube drop?

The latter doesn’t seem like a big deal to reschedule.

I want Nate to still participate, not because of the leaks, but of how welcoming Fami is as a community, and it would be like a sort of bad taste in the mouth moment if any person would decide to leave

Welp, can we get back to actual Direct talking and not about insiders?
There's part of me that thinks these direct speculation threads bring out the worst in the membership here, and we shouldn't do them anymore, but at least with this system the hatred and animosity is confined to one thread, as opposed to the general discussion thread and any other threads that may pop up.

It’s not the Direct video itself that would be hard to reschedule, but the stuff it leads into — any shadowdrops, pre-orders, etc.

Please everyone don’t be hateful and chase away cool people like Nate :/ I expressed my own concerns about what could be going wrong behind the scenes, but in the same breath mentioned how his track record has been awesome and I’m sure something was up that caused this to go wrong. I’m genuinely curious and hope he or someone else might elaborate. Insiders aren’t obligated to share anything with anyone, though; many people act entitled about this and it’s very obnoxious. I know I’d be frustrated if I gave people fun tidbits and got misery in return.

Again, there are always some idiots who blame, beign hateful to all the Insiders or even harm them or sending death threat, because they don't get what the teases or promised, or simply being are wrong for a Inside Info.

For all those yo does such things, for Fuck sake, whats it wrong with you? Leave them alone! They don't own you shit.
Insiders such as Nate, Necro, Brazil and such are valuable members of Famiboards and the whole gaming community, who love to discuss and speculating in what is going on in the world of gaming.

And that's the reasons why we can't have good things and even thats the reason why many left this and other forums.

Leave them alone, because they don't own you shit!

It wouldn’t be as simple as moving the video to another date. There are marketing plans and agreements in place. All the parties involved are relying on the reveals and info to be shown on the scheduled date, and have their own marketing plans set up around that. That would include tweets scheduled by Nintendo and third parties themselves, press releases that go out, any eshop updates for new games that are announced, not to mention if there was a game that was planning to be shadow dropped. Nintendo would have to take the time to coordinate the date change with all the partners involved in the direct. To do so because of a podcast wouldn’t be worth it

Now, if the partner showcase was just Xbox games then yea that wouldn’t be as hard to move if Xbox wanted

Consider it done.
Please, please dodn't fall for it darling!
As a Brazilian, today I watched soooo many unhappy souls attacking Necro, they're sour as they're acting like a child. Guaraná is saying the truth, most of us are supportive of you all

I am sorry mate that you have been getting a lot of crap for this, it is nonsense, I and many others appreciate what you have shared, it has been really enjoyable hearing you tease things/leak things, whether here or on the podcast and even if there is no partner direct this month at all, that doesn't change. I hope you will continue to discuss and leak things as you have been doing, it is great just having you active but I am really sorry for all the mean comments from some users.
