I kind of want to get a read on what everyone is thinking -

What is the expectation for a next generation reveal? A press release? First Look video? Presentation?

Okay, a trailer drop at the end of March, along side a press release. The trailer will feature glimpses of new games like a 3d mario, what looks like a first person metroid, and animal crossing, none of these will be formally announced just yet. It will show tears of the kingdom running on the new system at a higher resolution and smoother framerate, with a line that says “and your switch library comes with you!”. We get a glimpse of third party games new and old making their way to the system, specifically cyberpunk 2077, elden ring, and suicide squad kill the justice league. Along side promise of ea sports titles and a port of need for speed unbound, as well as dead space. Nintendo switch online is briefly teased and if you look closely you can see icons for the gamecube and Nintendo DS. Nintendo ds games will be possible because yes, this is a dual screen system in both hand held and docked mode. They are essentially trying the Wii U again, while maintaining the ease of use and accessibility of the switch such as the joy cons. Developers are not required to utilize the second screen, but the two screens can snap togeather and apart allowing for local multiplayer sessions with each player using one of the screens.

An official unveiling is set for June, with the systems official launch in September. Super Mario expanse, animal crossing traveler, and Metroid prime 4 are officially announced as launch and launch window games. Price information is also put out as the system will retail for $299, and $399 respectively.

  • Tweet that says something like "please join us at X:XX AM tomorrow morning for a look at the future of Nintendo"
  • Twitter/Youtube trailer like the October Switch trailer that mostly teases at new games and 3rd party ports but also shows some older Switch 1 games running on it; ends on a title card giving the general launch window (i.e. Fall 2024 for example). Press release the same day that confirms some more basic details like storage, backwards compatibility, screen size, support for SD cards, etc
  • Big infodump (maybe a stage presentation, but I'm feeling something pre-taped) a few months later that details launch/launch window games, pricing, release date, etc
I think this is where I'm at too... I think the lead up to the console will be just ever slightly longer than the one we got from October 2016 to March 2017 for the Switch but I think they'll follow a similar structure to this.

I think the only thing I would also add on is I think we will probably start hearing official word after the first look about games from other developers that they indeed are developing games from the platform and maybe showing them off while Nintendo maybe courts a couple of larger third-party developers/games to appear in the larger summer presentation :)

I wonder if our animal friend will appear tommorow
It's about time

I’m so curious what the launch-year Zelda game will be. I don’t think WW/TP ports would be enough.
I doubt there'll be new mainline Zelda game, I think WW/TP ports is likely it. We got TOTK less than a year ago.

I'd expect new 3D mainline Mario game and MP4 this year however.

Courtesy of Lbabinz on Twitter, Best Buy Canada just put up a bunch of new branded eShop gift cards with new artwork and currency values:
These are dollar amounts that haven't existed before for eShop cards in Canada.

nintendo got me wanting to spend 125 just to have three lil freaks staring at me like they’re asking if I’ve got games on my phone

Also an 85 dollar eShop gift card is just nasty because a retail game here is $79.99 plus tax which is more than 5% in every province except Alberta, so if someone got you an $85 card you’d be like 5 bucks away from a full retail game

Yup. Immediately assume this also lines up with games going to $89.99 on the new console.

already astronomically sick of animal crossing being synonymous with tropical shirts like it's margaritaville

reveal a new one with cozy temperate small town VIBES please asap

my theory is Twilight Princess and/or WW are getting re-remastered to take advantage of what the Switch 2 is capable of and that will be the year 1 Zelda

Twilight Princess with updated lighting/RTX in 4K through DLSS or whatever to flex some of the tech

Launch year Zelda is probably going to be 4K 60FPS BOTW/TOTK. Next 3D Zelda at least gunna be 2027.

I do not think that's the case for the $85 CAD ones cause the existing 99 dollar cards wouldn't even cover that. This just feels like Nintendo of Canada wanting to have better in between options for anything from 50 to 99, and also options above 99, which is probably needed even if Switch 2 games do follow TotK cause even the 99 dollar cards leave you with like 8 bucks after you buy a full priced game.

Not a bad guess - certainly more likely at this stage than the games coming to regular Switch. I so wanted to be able to have all the mainline Zeldas on Switch, so it’s a real bummer for me. If the next system has B/C confirmed and I can get some kind of decent trade value from my current Switch towards it, I’d feel a lot better right now! As exciting as it is to probably see the next system next month, I’m broke at the moment. Also, I’m hoping hard they have really good first-party software to show next month the same time they’re revealing the system; going at least three months into the year without significant first-party updates would be rough.

Pull a Yoshi and commit some tax fraud by putting your zip code somewhere else

Woke up to us hitting 200 pages. Close enough :) Glad to be here for when we break 10,000 posts. So close!

Speaking of gift cards, ever since Amazon took away the ability to buy eShop cards with your Amazon money, my eShop purchases have gone way down.

New 2D The Legend of Zelda title, wherein the player controls Link with one controller (Joy-Con style) and Zelda with the other; one of these can be handed off to a friend or partner* of some sort to create instant two-player multiplayer.

Minish Cap Remake
Alas, it would be a shame to lose that pixel art.
I still maintain they should have had a toggle for Link's Awakening.

Tears of the Kingdom Remake

This time it's Breath of the Wild Tears of the Kingdom, which puts the two games together and rectifies any discrepancies.

Something like this is probably ideal, yeah. Remember that Twilight Princess Wii U tech demo?

Also, bring back the Tingle Tuner.

sheikas spinoff made by Fromsoftware 😶‍🌫️ 😶‍🌫️
How is FromSoft doing that when they're already making Luigi's Mansion?
