They don't completely own the Another Code franchise, unlike Detective Club. Nintendo always retired the IP when the co-owner of the franchise got shot down. Like Chibi-Robo or Custom Robo.
You have evidence that they've written off those ip and can't use them anymore?

See, I'm part of two fandoms right now that are in Speculative Mode: Crazy Edition. Nintendo fandom what with this Direct/Pyoro stuff, and Dragon Ball fandom since there's a Comic Con panel in October that is teasing a "mysterious teaser" and people are going ballistic, slamming glass tables over each other's heads trying to make sense of what could be real and what's bogus. IS THE WEB ANIME REAL OR WAS IT ALL A LIE? No one knows.

It's a miracle that I'm not an introvert, otherwise all this wild interaction would destroy me. Things are crazy now and I'm gonna Burger King Bet that for this direct stuff.... something will happen by tonight that's gonna cause ANOTHER surge just like last night.

I thought Nintendo was 'testing the waters' with F-Zero X on NSO. Then again, I'm not sure how their data collection would work there, if they could actually track how many people played the game through the app. And people may be willing to give it a shot just cause it's 'free' with the sub. In which case F-Zero GX HD would work better for this purpose. It helps that it's a fantastic looking game already.
Since we know that the Japan-only MyNintendo app has a functioning activity log we already know that they can track pretty much everything.

Thinking through who could practically make what's being leaked:

  • F ZERO 99 (Arika - development timeline works out with Pacman 99 being withdrawn in October after launching in April 2021)
  • Mario vs DK (presumably NST - I might be misremembering but some LinkedIn activity indicated they finished a project this year; their last release, Bowser's Fury, shipped in February 2021 so it seems feasible)

The DS/Wii remake is obviously the most difficult to call. I'm considering whether this is going to be another combined Pokemon Mystery Dungeon title, like 2020's release it would be from Spike Chunsoft and the timeline seems feasible; however, the WiiWare Pokemon Mystery Dungeon title was quite different to the DS game which would presumably be Explorers of the Sky, so maybe this can't happen. Certainly, Spike Chunsoft have had enough time to work on a remake and Explorers of the Sky itself is widely liked by fans, while the WiiWare content never released outside Japan.

They green lit remakes of Famicom Detective Club, but Another Code is where we draw the line?
FDC at least has people who worked on it still at Nintendo and got the occasional reference before the remakes happened.

Another Code's been totally ignored outside of Smash, and Smash references near everything.

No but do they look alive to you? They have Smash spirits and all but that's about it.

I'm guessing they just don't want to give the IP's they don't completely own to someone else.

Pokémon games won't be in the next Direct, we got a Presents some weeks ago. New Pokémon announcements will come in february 2024 as usual at this point

Off topic, but what are the chances the dragon ball stuff bears fruit? Need me some more anime

You mean like they did with Mages and Famicom Detective Club? That IP was even more dead as shit until it got 2 remakes.

Find it funny people assume F-zero 99 would be based off the Snes game. Using X’s assets and death race makes way more sense with some new textures and cel shading to spruce it up. Just because the previous ones were sprite based doesn’t mean they all will be

Spectrobes, Elebits, or Okami/Okamiden (I know Okami is already on every platform I'm just being delusional!!) would be the remakes I'd be most hyped for. I can't see it being any of them though.

Holding out hope for a Tomodachi Life leak too.

We got Pokemon announcements in June, though, which makes me think the series is no longer completely segregated from the Direct format.

Nintendo completely owns the original NES releases of Famicom Detective Club, they're not co-owned. They were made in-house.

Another Code is co-owned by Nintendo and Cing. Cing is gone but the creators might still own a part of the franchise, we may never know.

They probably announced the Pokémon stuff at the direct because they didn’t want to wait until the Pokemon presents in august. That would leave 2 months from reveal to release, something Pokémon doesn’t tend to do

Being a MvDK fan and fucking forgetting you are on Fami like..

Fwiw I couldn't care less about Mystery Dungeon (no offence to fans of the series), I'm just suggesting what might fit the leak description and what might be practical from a development standpoint. Mystery Dungeon could come from Spike Chunsoft, who haven't been lead developers on anything since 2020. One reason F ZERO 99 and Mario vs DK are so plausible is because Arika and NST could realistically be due to release something. A new 99 game of some format should've been widely expected given Pacman 99 is about to be withdrawn.

Personally I find the idea of a Wild World/City Folk mash up remake really appealing. I think Animal Crossing is actually under-utilised on Switch, and the older games have the potential to offer something to fans that's different to the direction the series has now gone in. But I also really doubt Nintendo would actually combine different entries from one of their core IP in that fashion, given their remakes and re-releases tend to be largely faithful to the original experience (and this is sometimes detrimental to the re-released experience). It's also difficult to know who might actually create that hypothetical AC game.

Okay time for my take:

F-Zero is a great fit for Battle Royale, but given they have exclusively relied on huge IP like Mario, Tetris, and Pac-Man for marque NSO titles so far, there must be some bigger strategy around going with F-Zero. I suppose it could be a trial balloon to see how much interest there is in the series, but that seems like a pretty poor way to do so. I am guessing this is a Pikmin Bloom situation where they want to use a free game to grow the brand. If this turns out real I would expect another F-Zero game in a year or two.

If DK is Mario v. DK it looks like they wanted to have a DK game out around the time the theme park is being expanded in Japan, but it wasn't the right time for a big platformer. If that's the case, I wouldn't expect MonkEPD for a while, maybe next-gen.

Princess Peach Showtime seems like a lock. I am guessing it closes out the fiscal year in March 2024.

The DS/Wii remakes could be third party, so I am not going to speculate about that too much, but Another Code is an excellent guess.

They either own enough of the rights to use the characters in Smash Ultimate as spirits, or the people at Cing who had the rights have been cool with it. I can't imagine if the latter they'd say no to a remake being made by a company like Mages or a smaller team at Nintendo.

Kind of tangential, but I would install this app if it was available here actually. Or they should have a proper activity log in the OS itself.

I don’t see why Nintendo would go out of there way to remake games they don’t fully own and will therefor not get all the profits from when they just remake games they do own and will have no licensing issues to worry about

why are people talking about wave race

It's historically a launch game for a new console. Wait until the 2024 direct ya folks who probably just want T-Square-esque music
alright smart guy see you on May 3, 2024

ooh if it's mario vs dk will be hearing more of mario's new voice for sure
Mario & Sonic Paris 2024, assuming it's a thing, we'd probably get the new voice there too.

Which would be funny, since Mario & Sonic London 2012 was the first time we got the new SONIC voice cast in those games, so now Mario gets his turn.

Well, in that case they need to have talks with ex-Cing employees who owns the franchise. but without them Nintendo alone won't do the remakes.

Nintendo didn't even release the Cing games on Wii U DS and Wii Virtual Consoles, as Cing got bankrupt before Wii U was out. Hotel Dusk, Last Window, Another Code 1&R were absent from the Wii U VC. So were the games of other dead studios: Chibi Robo Wii and DS games, Custom Robo GBA and DS games. This was not the case with ALIVE studios: Reginleiv by Sandlot and Pandora's Tower by Ganbarion were on the platform and they also were co-owned.

I've been waffling between "FE4 Remake is definitely getting revealed next week" and "FE4 Remake is definitely NOT getting revealed next week" over the past few days.

Guess we'll find out when the Direct airs.
