I think it's not supposed to be an exclusive anymore, but it's most likely Resident Evil. RE games release pretty often (six games have released since 2017: Biohazard, 2 Remake, 3 Remake, Village, 4 VR, and 4 Remake), and a Switch title has been rumored for a while now. It feels way too early for Monster Hunter.
Monster Hunter World was released in 2018, Monster Hunter Rise in 2021,

Those are from different teams though, and World 2 most likely isn't coming to Switch. Monster Hunter Rise also released on the other consoles pretty recently, so releasing another game so soon would be weird.

Week 3 – From recent reports, we allegedly have another year ahead of more Switch. Which untapped series or character would you like to see get a new game before Switch 2 hits.
I think it'd be Sin & Punishment or Kid Icarus. Both of the franchises have a gameplay scheme and apparently good story and awesome characters that would bring a lot of variety to the table and probably look great too.
Maybe related to the third party game Nintendo is showing at Gamescom?

Hmmmmmm I can't wait to find out what the hell could that game be. Maybe Resident Evil is still in the cards but he couldn't use "scary" to describe? Or maybe Nintendo had a Super Mario Bros Wonder demo for the press?

Please someone spill the beans already.
Monster Hunter World was released in 2018, Monster Hunter Rise in 2021,
A sequel to World is apparently due, but a sequel to Rise looks too soon to already happen seeing Sunbreak was basically a new game. Unless the leads were already working on a game and are heavily reusing assets for a direct sequel to Rise.

World 2 probably wouldn't come to Switch imo.

Maybe third party game Nintendo will help to distribute in Europe is a Dark Souls 2 (or even 3?) port. Dark Souls 1 Remaster was also distributed by Nintendo in Europe

We’ve already finished our second week of the Direct thread. That means we should have only four weeks or less to go if the September Direct arrives in time for TGS! Rumors should start picking up once Gamescom is over as all eyes will be on September! As we enter Week 3 it’s now time for our next question :)

Curious to see what y’all pick! I think I’m rooting most for F-Zero and Fortune Street myself :)
Feels like the biggest series not yet appearing on Switch would be Star Fox, Donkey Kong (TF yes but no new game yet), and a bit of a longer shot, F-Zero. I'd be happy to see new games for any of those! Also not Nintendo, but a new Castlevania game would be rad.

It'll be interesting to see what's left in the tank for the Switch assuming that the Switch 2 is indeed Holiday 2024. Because while there will certainly be more titles filling out early-mid 2024, I feel like they would be saving the big hitters for the Switch 2 launch if that's the case. It's going to be a very interesting Direct season starting with this one and into 2024.

At this point I don't expect to see any new versions of Trails in the Sky 1-3 or Cold Steel 1-2 until Falcom remakes them. Doubt Xseed will want to play nice with Falcom or NISA.

I don't want Chrono Trigger. I want Chrono Break.

Nintendo Direct 9.19.2023
The legend has spoken. I’m even more confident it’s true because I’m taking a class that meets Wednesdays 4-6:30 PM ET so if the direct was on the 13th at it’s usual time I wouldn’t be able to watch it live. Luckily that’s not something I have to worry about .

I’ve gotten just about everything I could ask for this generation, but if I were to choose one thing, it’d probably be MonkEPD. I’m admittedly not the biggest DK fan, but how could I say no to a new 2D platformer created by new blood at one of the most prestigious development studios in the industry? (assuming all those rumors are true, of course)
IDK why but I still feel it in my gut that a Nintendogs is coming.
At first I was going to say we get one every Tuesday, but not only is it not Tuesday, but I realized you weren’t talking about the Jeff Grubb podcast.

Well then 👀

Goddammit Sega:
Sonic Adventure
The Shenmue series
Jet Set Radio
Power Stone
Skies of Arcadia
NiGHTS Into Dreams

Goddammit Square:
The Quintet Trilogy (or at least Terranigma)
Chrono Trigger

Goddammit other people:
Fantasian
Spark the Electric Jester 3
Trails in the Sky trilogy

Edit: I just realized you said "new game," not "ports of games that aren't on Switch yet" but to be fair most of those series I would love to see a new entry in as well so I think it still works 😅

It happened that way last year 🤷‍♂️

I’d be very down for the Quintet Trilogy and of course Chrono Trigger (and a new game!). Also I’ve never played Skies of Arcadia, they need to bring that back.

If I was president of Falcom, the Trails in the Sky trilogy would have been on Switch day 1 and on every platform under the sun haha. (Same goes for Chrono Trigger with Square lol)

Shenmue...I hoped to see it appear on Switch one day, but that's gone now. Would've been an ideal release for short playing sessions in handheld.

But then again, it could be said about numerous other games too. From Mirror's Edge to the latest Daytona USA installment.

Probably won’t engage in direct speculation for a bit, recently learned s close family friend is dying from cancer and went to see him yesterday. What’s worse he is my mom’s boss and the place in the process of shutting down and she’ll be out of a job.

F*** cancer

Damn, you got me on this one. They are not going to announce the Direct the day they have Holiday. I will give a new date asap.
Honestly, the fact that Respect for the Aged day is the same week as TGS this year is making me think it might be the previous week. That makes the 13th or 14th the most likely dates IMO

Fuck it, I'm changing my vote on the poll lmao

EDIT: oh wait oh fuck that's Pokémon week. No way they're doing the 13th. The 14th is theoretically still possible but uhhhh

Snitch is saying there's gonna be God of War: Ragnarok DLC.

Come on Nintendo. Announce the Tears of the Kingdom DLC so we have the battle of DLCs for DLCs to decide who makes the better DLCs.

6th or the 20th

If it's the 6th then Super Mario RPG is canned due to Square Enix not liking the number of pipes in the game, but Tears of the Kingdom 2 Ancient Boogaloo launches in 2024

If it's the 20th Wave Race is back and we see Metroid Prime 4 but Nintendo are selling F ZERO to EA

Choose your poison

20th easy, there's F-Zero chance anyone picks the other option.

StarFox will always get my first vote.

But in this age where Armored Core 6 may lead to a possible "renaissance" of mecha games? Can we get Custom Robo to come back?

Perhaps not Monster Hunter, but there is something a number of Rise's leads also worked on together before they moved onto that title.

Koji Oda, Masakazu Eguch, Ryota Fujii, Takayoshi Miyake? They all worked on Mega Man 11 together.

I was one of those that imagined that after they were done with Rise, and with another team assuming most of their duties for the expansion, Sunbreak, that they would come back to Mega Man afterward. It just happened to be that Taisen leaking proposed an interesting possibility of what they could be doing next for MM.

Nintendo isn't going to give us inferior versions of one of their games when the HD versions exists, especially when those versions have been praised for their quality of life changes, which Nintendo marketed too. WWHD and TPHD won't need much porting work, and they're very likely already done and just waiting to be released.

They already put OoT and MM on NSO when the 3DS versions exist. I know you'll say that's not the same thing, but looking at Metroid and Pikmin, doing minimally changed versions of Gamecube games and releasing them bundled or at a budget price seems to be their MO for legacy content post-N64 in lieu of NSO.

Metroid and Pikmin didn't have pre-existing HD versions though, sure Metroid Prime Trilogy and the New Play Control versions of Pikmin existed but those are very different from the HD remasters that are WWHD and TPHD

I don't know how to timestamp in Twitch links, but Grubb talks about a Direct in early-mid September starting at 37:40. I interpret this is a "it'll probably happen, like previous years." Not really like a "I know this is happening for sure."

Metroid just got a major remaster and Pikmin 1 and 2 never had an HD versions, it feels like your jumping through hoops to justify weirdly low expectations

The more I think about it, the more sure I am that the Totk's DLC will be announced in the direct, they revealed the last batch of characters on social media in the past days... something's cooking

They've been doing that all the time, it's just extra marketing for their biggest gaming success in years :D

Terribly sorry to hear. That’s heartbreaking. Best wishes to your friend as well as to your family.

Why would Nintendo be showing something off to influencers (god I hate that word) ahead of time rather than just a hype drop in a Direct?

Unless maybe they're filming something like all of them playing a multiplayer game together for a trailer or something?

That is indeed fetched pretty far. Not only are the influencers gathering at the store location in NYC, not Gamescom, but the article writer themselves say they aren't convinced of the "reveal at Gamescom" leak being accurate.
Makes sense. I was just thinking that maybe they‘d hold something in NYC to follow-up the Gamescom discussion, like a talk or additional details or something. Obviously I have no idea what it would be, but thought maybe they would have a North American counterpart? I don’t know, you’re probably right lol
