I used to be an investigative journalist but not for gaming
Pardon my obvious line of questioning, but don't investigative journalists usually vet their sources and evaluate information to at least consider the likelihood of its veracity? The line of work is typically a bit more involved than picking out prospective tabloid articles.

quit while you’re ahead bud
I'm stopping with this post because I don't want to derail the thread more than it has been but I really needed to vent out this frustration.

But look, if you're a moderator reading this: I genuinely think some (very few, but still) people that have been banned here were on your side politically and philosophically. But due to a small slipup or a way of how they wrote their thoughts, a ban instead of a warn or a DM from the staff could legitimately nudge off that person from the community. This is GENUINELLY something that turns people away to the right. I'm not calling this place an echo chamber, I'm merely saying that conversation and trying to show how someone's spouting bullshit is a better way of handling things than a straight up lazy ban.

(I'M NOT SAYING THIS ABOUT NITENDO PRIME BTW)
To be even more specific: I'm talking about the guy with a polar bear avatar and the other one with a animal crossing dog. The others in that thread were valid bans IMO.

bruh just dm a mod.

Since you likely have a high degree of customized automation for looking up stuff, let me make a suggestion with that in mind. You should create a general format for any posts you make so that you can provide more context, like starting all posts about rumors with disclaimers, such as informing the reader that it's for entertainment purposes only.

Long time users like @Dakhil and @fwd-bwd , for example, have a very specific way of formatting their posts, and often come with some small tidbits of general context that are repeated across all posts. Because of that, it becomes easier for anyone jumping into the thread to understand what the post is and to take it with a grain of salt.

Good idea, thank you

Hmmm interesting, so I got a 2 month ban for a stupid joke that references a set of zelda characters but put in a poorly written way generalizing all middle eastern people as one race and culture (which I recognize that was pretty bad, yes). And before that, iirc a ~6 month ban for calling someone crazy but again, in a very poorly written manner (the stupid "take your meds" joke).

But, a guy who LITERALLY said that minorities only care about making babies and living off welfare gets only a 2 month ban?

Not only that but there are (some) people who have been banned for WAY less for WAY more months in that one thread where people were discussing ATLUS' writers ideocracy when dealing with trans and queer folk.

Good job moderation team.
What did I just say about not volunteering information about yourself

bruh just dm a mod.
I believe complaints like this should be made public. DMing a mod would lead to one getting the memo but the others being unaware.
What if that specific mod turns out to be against me? they wouldn't even care about it.

Again, I need to make it clear that I don't want this place to let bigoted posts pass without punishment. But I also think people in the moderation team should re-consider how they plan user bans timings and in case they are writing poor posts: make them aware of it, discuss. Don't straight up ban people. You're LITERALLY making them radicalized and sending them towards the conservative opposition.

But like I said earlier, I'll stop before the thread gets more polluted.

Hard to believe that an Epic dev would have access to Nintendo's First Party graphics upgrade strategies.
To be fair, it IS possible the 4chan post is legit if it turns out to be the same Epic dev that had previously made a claim about switch 2 on 4chan. Not necessarily likely it's legit, but possible.

Yeah we're not going to go down this route. I'll very quickly report the thread lmao. So we're gonna move on from talking about that piece of shit and the "complexities" of all that...

Because we're all enduring case after case of whiplash from this thread every 6-8 hours lmao
It's important to make clear that 4chan is not only a bad site, but toxic to the entire internet and should never be trusted as legitimate. True, sometimes true leaks happen there, but it's almost impossible to find them in the sea of trash there is there, thus no one should put anything from there here pretending it is legitimate.

I'm just going to dm you my response but we need to move on.

Jesus, ignoring pablo isn't enough because like 70% of the posts are posts quoting his crap.

Any way to algo ignore posts quoting ignored users?

As you mentiojn, the unfortunate truth is that there have been legit leaks on 4chan in the past but I get what you're saying, a place like 4chan with a history of nihilistic sadism is never going to be trustworthy, same reason it was immeasurably stupid for THQ Nordic to volunteer an AMA on the one image board that was made for people that even 4chan considered too toxic.

I mean don’t you see the topic goes good
Until he shows up? Then he always inserts some nonsense garbage from 4chan?

This doesn’t need to become the Pablo discussion thread.

I get it’s not a perfect solution but if you don’t like his posts then just ignore him.

Personally I like his enthusiasm, lol.

Unless they are someone with access to the current Nintendo Switch Dev Kit. Then it is the easiest thing to fake. Literally copying menu item and changing the text. Done in 10 seconds. Not saying there is not a tiny tiny chance, but when you consider that devs of such great games as "Calculator for Nintendo Switch" have access to it, it‘s very possible that it was some random person with a dev kit who dosen‘t give a fuck.
I prefer your thorough detective way than all the senseless clowning that was happening.

Thank you.

....is it always Battle O'Clock in here, or did I just come at a bad time
We're testing out a new Battle Pass monetization strategy, but everyone who participates now gets grandfathered into the free tier.

I'm not sure whether this post is too constructive to be entered into the Battle Pass event, but it's a nice thought.

Good idea, thank you
I might also suggest putting a bit of analysis into what you decide to share, especially given your stated background as an investigative journalist. I'm not sure what method you use to determine what's worthy of posting here, but I get the impression it tends to be a bit, um, controversial.

There is no end to rumors which could be shared, but not all rumors pass the sniff test. And people here have sniffed a lot of rumors.

If you thought Pablo was bad, just wait until it's mid-September and I'm clamoring about a late December 2023 release.

My stance has changed on this. I don't think GameCube will be added to NSO like the apps currently exist, but I think GCN and Wii titles will see more and more "quick and dirty" ports like Pikmin 1+2, and that these will be added to NSO+Expansion Pack around the launch of Next Gen.

This approach gets around issues like adapting controls and large download sizes, while people who want to "buy to own" still can.

I think DS is the final NSO app, probably next year, with additions after that being Wii and GCN remasters, then early Switch games, transitioning into a "Game Pass for Nintendo".

They can't keep adding consoles forever, because eventually they'd catch up to current gen and reinvent Game Pass anyway. I think that'll start with GCN titles. Also gives them a place to put the already ready Mario Galaxy HD and Sunshine HD ports back on sale, along with games like Twilight Princess and Windwaker HD, and the already-ready-but-never-released New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

My new feature prediction for NSO next gen would be "remote play together", giving games on Nintendo Switch with limited or no Online full Online support, just as the NSO apps do for their games, but at a system level for all games.
I agree with you that they'd likely stick to remastering Gamecube games as there is more money to be made from that avenue. Though you brought up an interesting point with suggesting a "game pass for Nintendo." They currently offer a decent selection of dlc expansions included in the premium NSO tier alongside an occasional game trial. They could offer extended game trials for select Switch games in a Game Pass-like format.

Another new Switch 2 "leak" from 4chan, please take with a grain of salt, no aggro:

The final hardware and development kits are finally making rounds publicly. This is the hardware developers have access to.

Custom Tegra T239 processor. It has multiple profiles with varying clocks for the CPU and GPU so developers can choose the right one for their game. Optimize for better battery, performance, etc. At maximum the development hardware pulls 28.6 watts from the wall, 11watts in portable.

The development hardware uses another 720p OLED screen. The device has 24gbps HDMI 2.1 support. Their is no 120hz support, but supports 4K60 output with 10 bit HDR.

Our hardware came with 256gbs of much faster storage with UHS-II micro card support. Read and writes speeds are similar to the Samsung S22, 550mbps read, 480mbps write.

The system is the Xbox Series to the Switch's Xbox One. It features full backwards compatibility. The SoC also boasts an Ampere based GPU capable of Ray traced reflections and Nvidia's DLSS. Switch games will be eligible for free next gen upgrades and games like Fortnite are cutting off Switch support by the end of the next calendar year to make way for the Switch 2. All ongoing Nintendo games (i.e. Splatoon 3, TotK, Pokemon, Mario Kart 8) will get next gen treatment with many studios also preparing their existing games for the new hardware.

Games that don't get an upgrade can still benefit from the new hardware. Exclusively in docked mode their are upscaling and filtering options for existing Switch games.

Fortnite is already running on this device and in comparison to Xbox Series S, the Switch 2 maintains the same image quality docked at 60fps. In portable mode it's still 60fps as well, but without Nanite and Global Illumination.

Hidden content is only available for registered users. Sharing it outside of Famiboards is subject to moderation.
Yeah, I feel confident Nintendo's going to keep the CPU frequency the same regardless of the mode almost all the time similar to the Nintendo Switch.

And supporting HDMI 2.1 at a max bandwidth of 24 Gbps makes zero sense unless VRR's supported. At that point, Nintendo's better off keeping the HDMI 2.0b support from the OLED model (here and here).

This turns people to vote against gay marriage, abortion, and trans rights?
Completely missed the point. No, I'll make it more clear:
Both banned users in the metaphor - refantazio thread I mentioned were (reading from their posts in the thread and their previous posts on the site) clearly not people who are in favor of prejudiced views. But since they were discussing in a manner that was poorly written (but again, not offensive towards who they were speaking nor against the general progressive views shared amongst users on famiboards) they were banned instead of being brought to attention, getting a warn, a timeout to speak with moderation so to say.

I know moderation shouldn't treat users like kindergarden babies but that's not really the point, I mean that out of those two people and the very few others who were banned for small offenses, you could seriously lose multiple of them to centrist and right-wing groups that would normally not have a problem with them but aren't aware (or just pretend not to care) about societal issues.

It won't turn them into people anti-gay marriage, abortion and trans rights. But it certainly will nudge them out of groups who care about it, towards groups that may even be against it. Centrists are one step close to right wingers sometimes.

My entire point is something I've been advocating for years on my country's biggest marxist-leninist discord server: a movement is NOTHING without a wide group of people behind it. This is why you don't just push back people on the fence, you must guide them, discuss with them, show where they're wrong.

I don't think you need to worry about mods pushing people towards right wing groups. If you find yourself being involved with those types of groups, that's your fault, not the mods. Generally, if someone gets banned, it's for repeated offenses or warnings. Either that, or whatever they said is particularly egregious and not worth giving ghe benefit of the doubt.

Anyway, I suggest we end this convo here.

So, Switch 2, am I right?
