News Nintendo Direct announced for September 13th (7 AM PT, 10 AM ET, 3 PM BST, 4 PM CEST)

A major purpose of the direct is TGS so it shouldn't be shocking to get a lot of JRPGs and farming games for the Japanese audience.

The Sony state of play is going to have many "anime games" too for the same reason.

Wonderful Life remake! That completely blind sighted me and I got unreasonably happy seeing the character walk down the main street with the inn. This is my favorite Harvest Moon game and was one of my favorite games in general. It looks like a full-on remake and it's nice to see the game get such a glow up. I'm really interested in revisiting this, curious to see if there are more changes. After all the gamecube remaster talk, turns out the only ones were third parties.

I missed Return to Dreamland when it originally came out and was actually considering getting it before the Wii U eshop goes down so this was a nice surprise.

Great to finally see the new Fire Emblem. The art style seems more cartoony/juvenile than usual, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I can't say they showed much that excited me about this entry in particular, summoning past heroes for team up attacks doesn't do much for me. But FE gameplay is always solid so I'm interested regardless.

Thank god the new Xenoblade class is a defender. Looks like the DLC classes/heroes will have unique mechanics so that's fun.

Zelda continues to look great, though it was just a little tease again. I guess I was expecting a little sooner than May.

Hey uh, did I miss something? I thought the Pikmin 4 announcement was nice and I just hope FE is better than it looks

I'm going to wait for the analysis on the new Zelda trailer.

when looking in hindsight there were some great games announced, it's just the presentation which was crowded with a lot of smaller games that took me the wrong way and missing several games I heard about. After all this time and several mini and partners later I expected different.

Still, excited for what's to come!

What do you mean lol, if I don't like farming simulators, half of this direct was already useless. And in general it was like 30 minutes of "headlines" with middling to bad looking games. I guess the FF theathrythm game looks nice? If Octopath can actually work out the issues of the first game, then yay?

But from Nintendo themselves, Pikmin 4 is a thing and 10 seconds of a game we've been waiting ages for.
I don’t agree.

It seems that many people just wanted remasters of games they’ve already played before and got big mad when they didn’t get them.

I stopped believing in the Metroid Prime rumors months ago and would encourage everyone else to do the same.

As for Game Boy on the NSO, I assume that'll come when the next N64 wave ends mid-2023.

Honestly I'm surprised most folks are as underwhelmed as they are.

Goldeneye was finally revealed in existence (along with an N64 roadmap, bitching on the internet works), we got Mario Kart news of the Wave 3 booster pass, Harvestella gets a demo, LiS Arcadia Bay collection, Tunic and It Takes Two, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (highkey a gamecube port I didn't expect but will welcome gladly), Sifu, Pikmin 4, Oddballers, Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star, and a subtitle AND release date for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Honestly a more than satisfactory direct for me, a solid 8.5/10.
honestly, I think it's just people were shot down after being gassed up

TotK name reveal, Pikmin 4, Goldeneye 64, FE Engage, Octopath 2, that's a solid quintet right there, hits multiple genres and audiences

There was a weird amount of farm RPGs. SOS: Wonderful Life, Harvestella, Faefarm, Rune Factory…I get everyone’s aiming for the AC audience but someone should have probably stopped them from all being in one Direct.
Haven't even read through much of the thread yet, but I'm sure Fami already has the farming memes going. This was the Farming Direct 😂 Farming the tears of Metroid Prime and Wind Waker fans, of course.

Let this be a lesson to those who listen to so many "insiders" as if they're not just whispering chidren on a playground, lmao, they're just attention whores (in my humblest of opinions.) Cheap hypebeasts for the easy marks and advertising gigs and all that.

Pikmin 4, Front Mission news, Zelda, online GoldenEye, Octopath 2 straight up completed- I'm eating! If I was a fucking farm game sim person I'd be crying right now I think, that was the byline for like eight games hahaha
lol.... nobody confirmed anything besides a Direct date. Calling out insiders for shit, they never said would be 100% in the Direct, is really funny as fuck.

He's great getting Direct timings, but I at the very least am not going to put stock in his reporting regarding Direct content going forward
Preach. I mean the direct was so mediocre i could totally believe there was something going on but im not trusting 100% any leaker anymore unless the game comes with a pic.

What a great direct, pretty filled and you can tell they are saving most of 2023 probably for the drake. That said, I have a few doubts:

- No NSO consoles? With the subs renovation time almost here? I was hoping for the GB, and it's strange they don't show more consoles to keep people subbed. I don't rule out a Twitter announcement.

- I'm pretty sure WWHD and TPHD will come some day, when there is no new Zelda to launch. But what happened with Metroid Prime? People were very convinced it would launch this year. I'm not as convinced about its existence now.

Aside from that, a great direct with many surprises, like FE, Octopath, Kirby remake and, of course, Goldeneye at last!! And we got the tulle and the date, I'm happy.

Can someone explain the Metroid logo on the Goldeneye reveal? Are they just fucking with us, wtf?

It seems realistic to me that a game rumored to exist for a decade would be played by a Metroid player.

I know people are saying they held off because of Drake but even with some evidence I can't bring myself to be convinced that's a product that's actually launching any time soon. Hopefully it will be and we'll get a nice blowout event next year.

General thoughts:
  • Fire Emblem Engage has better graphics than Three Houses but with worse character designs. I do like the fanservice element of having characters from previous installments help as guardian spirits or something.
  • FITNESS BOXING FIST OF THE NORTH STAR is already dead amazing
  • Holy shit I am eating as a farming sim fan. HD version of my favorite Rune Factory, Harvestella demo, new indie farm sim thing, even a remake of one of the weirder Harvest Moon titles!
  • Grub is the obvious answer, right, guys?
  • Octopath Traveler 2 looks like a good expansion on the first, but I’m probably not gonna get it til I get through Live A Live. High hopes the soundtrack is still soul-tingling, though.
  • Legit happy Goldeneye, Pokemon Stadium (with the minigames!) and 1080 are coming.
  • Peach Gardens is inbound! Yes!
  • Atelier Ryza 3 looks fantastic. I’m edging ever closer to buying the games.
  • The perspective shift is really helping sell the miniscule-people appeal of Pikmin. I sincerely hope we can turn off the timer so I can feel safe about buying in. Also Miyamoto totally insisted on doing that Pikmin Bloom segment and Nintendo was like “darn, he knows we can’t say no”.
  • BOO RE2R AS CLOUD VERSION?! Capcom you cowards!
  • Raincode seems overly complicated anime stuff for what seems to be a straightforward mystery solving gameplay style, but as always the author’s unique aesthetic shines through.
  • Sifu, It Takes Two and Radiant Silvergun are awesome gets for Switch.
  • Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom looks beautiful. That title is great. And it releases at the perfect time for me.

No Zelda for the first time in a decade this year then
Funny, I was on the 'no Zelda train in 2022' until the very end of last month, but thought Jeff was right because I doubted him in June and got wrongfooted by the Partner Showcase.

Importantly, though - the next new Zelda has an actual release date, down to the day, as well as the title. Not all that long now.

It's gonna be funny when some of the third party things people expected out of this presentation, such as the MGS remasters, get randomly announced at TGS or somewhere else and people go "Why wasn't this in the Direct?"

Where the hell is Mario

I really liked the Direct and all, but seriously, where is he

I guess they really did kill him last year. He died and went to spin-off hell

Definitely not a direct for me. My highlights were Zelda and the 64 games.
Now I understand why the decided to not do a general direct at E3 🤔

Anyway, it seems like Nintendo is going to wait until 2023 to show more big games.

Great Direct! Most excited for the new Fire Emblem. It looks great!

Hope we find out when Advance Wars is releasing soon.

Peasants:

"meh meh meh, Zelda trailer showed nothing, Pikmin was a logo, no Metroid, everything was farming sim"

Me, cultured animu enjoyer:

"Toothpaste-chan from FE looks kawaii, the swimsuits for Xenoblade 3 are finally here and I can date-sim in my chill farm however I want to"

"Harvestella demo? New Stardew esque game? Rune Factory 3? WONDERFUL LIFE??? Best direct ever, 10/10"

Please avoid attacking others, and remember to use more inclusive language, the forum consists of more than just "guys." -Josh5890, Harina, Derachi
You guys don't even play games, so the quality of the presentation is irrelevant. Just go back to hyping for the next direct that you'll be disappointed for.

great Direct
too bad Metroid will never see the light of the day, but

Zelda hasn't been delayed: way better to have a small teaser of a better-looking sequel of one of the best game ever made, than the HD ports of HD remakes of old titles as many were expecting

FE Engage is already firing me up! Better looking than Three Houses (wasn't hard lol), with usual solid and addictive gameplay, fusions are hype and is coming in Q1, great timing for me

Pikmin 4: YAY, finally! This time I think we can actually agree with Miyamoto that "Pikmin 4 is almost finished" lol - a great return, finally a brand new episode, and I'm confident, after how good 3 was, in terms of structure and gameplay

Atelier Ryza 3: I'm happy, I think that gameplay wise the Ryze duology has been very high, in terms of standard for the saga, and can't wait for it to even improve in terms of combat and exploration

Octopath Traveler II is music for my ears; HD-2D is simply fantastic, the different story-structure is entertaining (similar somehow to Live a Live), and I'm glad Team Asano is seeing so much confience from SE headquarters

Bayonetta 3 is great, Mario Rabbids is great, Harvestella is very promising and It Takes Two is very good; Crisis Core seems to have passed through a decent refinement

Not too many remasters: Kirby is a nice surprise, but I'm glad especially about Fatal Frame, because I think 4th is the best entry in the series

Not so interested in the rest but overall it really was a very solid Direct

Again, too bad about Metroid. At this point I really think it won't be a Switch game.

Let this be a lesson to those who listen to so many "insiders" as if they're not just whispering chidren on a playground, lmao, they're just attention whores (in my humblest of opinions.) Cheap hypebeasts for the easy marks and advertising gigs and all that.
Calling people attention whores is kind of gross.

Also, they were right. About the timing of the Direct, about It Takes Two being there, about us getting the BotW2 title…the things that they said would for sure happen in this Direct happened.

You mean the same insiders who got Fire Emblem details 100% correct? The same ones who said "BotW2" would get a title drop? Yeah, sure, okay lmfao

  • Mainline FE
  • Pikmin 4
  • New Zelda
  • Octopath 2

Yeah, sure, Nintendo tooootally doesn't have anything else lined up for the Switch /s
Only one that 100% counts here is FE. Pikmin 4 and Zelda (especially Pikmin) were teasers that didn't give much. Octopath kinda counts I guess but it's launching on PC too (leaked from Green Man's Gaming). Also reminder that the 3DS got a mainline FE - a heavy remake, but still - the same year the Switch launched

Outside of ports and a game we already knew (Zelda) this direct did nothing for me. Easily my least favorite in some time.

If you’re convincing journalists we’re getting games announced that aren’t, then yeah, I’d rather not hear from them:

Yeah this is what often hangs me up about the insider debacle. Not discounting the fact that they get lots of things right but they've completely changed how discourse works. To the point where like 5 things that have been heavily rumored keep not happening and they're shrugged off like "well not everything is going to happen all at once".

Direct itself getting delayed because of the Queen
GameBoy going to NSO (kinda confirmed with Pokemon Stadium but still)
Wind Waker HD
Twilight Princess HD
Metroid Prime, first the Trilogy years ago, and now Prime 1 for this year
"Nintendo's sitting on a bunch of finished games" sure doesn't seem like it for their first full Direct in 7 months.

Fire Emblem was completely on the nose, like insanely so. There's clearly a good source there. But enough doesn't happen to the point where the last few weeks of rampant speculation feel silly in hindsight. Not to say people can't pay attention to what they say, but... stop with the gospel surrounding them.

It didn't pack as many megatons as the February show -for me-, but I thought it was a solid show all around.

Fire Emblem, Octopath Traveler II, a NEW Theatrhythm, couple of fondly remembered N64 games, and Zelda in May lifted it up for me. First half of next year looks loaded!

I thought that was actually a pretty solid direct. Main things I liked were NSO N64 Updates, Mario Kart 8 Wave 3 Preview, and of course New Zelda. But Fire Emblem and Octopath Traveller looks pretty cool even though I havent played the series yet, and will get me to check them out for sure.

No GCN Zelda and Metroid ports make me think that they exist but they could be a long ways off, maybe saved for late 2023 or 2024 idk. Not too worried, probably going to just try them out in the meantime on Wii U/emulation as I havent played Wind Waker or Prime yet. Overall good direct but the pacing was weird lol.

and not even a new NSO+ perk at all... weird
