Metroid Prime will probably end up being the early spring 2023 game. They announced FE and another game (Kirby?) for January and February so it could fit in somewhere between those and TotK so March or April is a possibility. They could also shadowdrop an announcement out of the blue and it could be here as early as December! It along with Zelda were my most anticipated so it was disappointing not seeing it today.

What if the Prime remake is enough of a graphical showpiece that it makes sense to use it to launch new hardware 🤔

My soul shall depart this plane if Nintendo doesn't announce Metroid.

That fucking logo has got me jumping right now
Tbh before I recognized it was GoldenEye, just the black screen, atmospheric sound and Samus logo as profile pic made me go nuts for a second and imagine like Metroid 64 or something, maybe MPR free for subscription lol.

Now I feel you, I'm really sad we didn't get to see Metroid today :(

Peach Gardens looks amazing! On par with the 8 courses I think
I thought exactly the same thing!! Also got happy to see Marry Mountain have anti-gravity added. Was expecting them to show 3DS Rainbow Road tho, but Peach Gardens looks great.

Unironically

i want luigi's mansion 4 to take advantage of nlg's cinematic capabilities so go wild with the over the shoulder bs and the scripted areas.

(if famiboards had downvotes i would be in hell by now)

Nintendo isn't going to release Zelda TotK in May and then release new hardware the same fiscal year. Zelda and new hardware launches go hand in hand. Nintendo would literally be dropping the ball if they ever release a system again without a Zelda game. There's also no point in releasing Zelda after this long without pairing it with new hardware.

IF a new Switch isnt release alongside Zelda, that tells me Switch 2 isn't until Fall 2024 at the earliest.

Def gonna buy Ib! I remember finding out about it some years ago, it seemed like it had an interesting vibe and aesthetic. It was a freeware on PC and I may even have it downloaded at some point but I think I never got to play it

Looking forward to Tunic, also a definite pick, been waiting for the port for a while

I will keep an eye on reviews of Rain Code

From first party I'll keep an eye on Pikmin 4, never played the series before so it might be my first one

The Kirby remake looks fun, may grab it

And ofc looking forward to The Legend of Zelda, pretty interested in how the sky focus will turn out

zeltiks analysis for the new zelda trailer has got me so hyped.

needless to say…there could be some major spoilers here for the game, even though it is just speculation. So if you want to go in completely blind DO NOT WATCH THIS.

the worst nintendo direct of all time holy fuck

at least we know the switch is dead
Tbh I had the impression it's more alive than ever(mainly due to the full berserk mode of January to May), and got even some January 2013/E3 2017 vibes of "we have stuff coming in the future".

The Pikmin Bloom part was what would make it lose some stars lol.

It’s difficult to imagine Prime HD as a Twitter drop, though I guess something like Age of Calamity with a short intro where Prime 4’s current status is acknowledged (“look forward to seeing more next year!”) would work. At this rate I think it just isn’t this year though.

I think better candidates for Twitter drops within the remainder of the year are Everybody’s 1-2-Switch (a gimmicky casual game that uses mobile phones benefits more from a separate showcase than a direct trailer) and Advance Wars (I never expected it to be mentioned in a direct again after the delay, a short and sweet announcement to release schedule is best).

Actually, I should warn: be careful about supporting Factorio. The creator is a chud who gladly defends homophobia and misogyny. There's another, MUCH worse thing but it would be too disruptive to the thread to go into detail, so I'll link this one instead: CW for sexual assault

EDIT: "Disruptive" was a bad way of putting it, I mean moreso that what he said is fucking gross and the thread has receipts

I’ll be honest, I criticise Microsoft and Sony when they do presentations with FPS after FPS after FPS or cinematic action shooter after cinematic action shooter, so consequently I didn’t enjoy too many farm simulations on this Direct.

Some non-farming RPGs (old and new), Xenoblade 3 DLC date and Fatal Frame 4 were the most exciting parts, which is sad if we consider we got finally new Zelda ”info”. No Metroid at all was a bit disappointing.

The best about this Direct was an implicit confirmation of a pretty soon Drake unveiling.

Where the hell is Mario

I really liked the Direct and all, but seriously, where is he

I guess they really did kill him last year. He died and went to spin-off hell
I mean, Mario games are revealed really close to release. Maker 2 had only 4 months from reveal to release. NSMBUDX had the same. Odyssey was an outlier because they needed to sell the Switch and let everyone know it was coming.

If there's a 2D Mario coming in the summer it can still be announced at February Direct. If there's a 3D Mario coming in the holidays or early 2024, well, there's E3.

They surely aren't in a position where they need to announce Mario 12 months+ before, and they have Zelda coming in May to focus on rn.

also, if crisis core reunion runs perfectly fine on the switch, why the hell aren’t the ps2 kingdom hearts games native ports.
Iirc they don't have the source code for KH1 on PS2 anymore... I think they had to rebuild a lot when they made it for PS3

But 1.5/2.5 HD ran on PS3 so surely it would have been doable

I’m curious as to how the people who dislike this direct think it’s worse than September 2019. The only things of note they announced there were a JRPG port (TMS), a JRPG remaster (Xenoblade), and some Smash stuff.

Beyond that, I genuinely don’t remember anything.

You know what, a KH remake in the style of Crisis Core would be the rightest thing Square would do.

Not only they'd turn the game into something beautiful, they can get rid of the problematic Tarzan world altogether and replace it with Jungle Book.

i agree that 2019 was worse but e3 2019 was great, since this year we had none it felt extra worse

My guess is the Metroid Prime remake was cancelled because it leaked which is a thing Nintendo actually does.
It didn't tho. It was a game that took 4 years of development. It was quite expensive to make no matter what. They just aren't gonna throw it to the trash because of some ego thing. I mean, Metroid Dread was leaked on forums like in 2019, Super Mario 3D All Stars and 3D World were reported months before release and they still came.

This direct definitely had the gaming news that interested me most today. Seeing a new Fire Emblem confirmed, Octopath 2, Raincode, Harvestella, Pikmin 4, updates on Bayonetta 3 and Zelda, and a few interesting classics coming back like Front Mission (now with 3 confirmed!) and Crisis Core. This was tailored to my tastes as directs usually are.

Hey, that's Dunban over there!!! [POINTS]

Sorry it's a slow night for me. Carry on! :p

That and Burroughs estate are kind of asses so Disney don't use Tarzan characters much anymore. Tarzan (full world in KH1, mention in KH2) and some music in the game make the games difficult to bring new platforms. Cloud versions basically are PC versions.

Just my opinion but after mulling it over this direct was definitely decent. It sucks that we didn't get the leaked stuff, but it's hard to say this was worse then sep 2019 or Feb 2021 (we got Pikmin 4 for crying out loud!). It baffles me that many are saying it's the worst switch era direct ever, it wasn't great, hell maybe not even good, but worst ever? C'mon.

So I just watched the Direct because I've been working all day.

Stunned that we saw Pikmin 4 and no Metroid Prime Remaster. At this point I don't even know if Metroid Prime is coming out this year. Like why would you just refuse to show off that game if it's coming out in a couple months?

Sooooo many other games that had been discussed on here for months were also complete no shows.

I didn't think it was great at all.

I suppose prime could be a Twitter drop because there wasn’t room in the direct?

Directs have been following an easily predictable format recently

The opener, closer and 2 big middle reveals

September 2021
  • Opener - MHR Sunbreak
  • Middle - Kirby and Forgotten Land
  • Middle - N64 NSO/ Expansion Pak
  • Closer - Bayonetta 3

February
  • Opener: Fire Emblem Warriors
  • Middle - MK8D BCP
  • Middle - Nintendo Switch Sports
  • Closer - Xenoblade 3

September
  • Opener - Fire Emblem Engage
  • Middle - Octopath Traveller 2
  • Middle - Pikmin 4
  • Closer - Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

I guess Prime remastered just didn’t fit and could be revealed later, they just really wanted to tease Pikmin 4. Idk. Not betting on it though
I think that makes sense actually. In quantity alone I think this Direct even topped February 2019 in how many games were revealed/re-revealed.
I think they'll make Metroid Prime Remake a Twitter drop and release it in March, that's a big month for Nintendo has yet to get a game, huge gap between Kirby remake in February and Zelda in May is telling. I think they're gonna repeat Dread/OLED and make it the launch title of a revision.

At this point I feel pretty confident in saying that it’s not.

Idunno, does that make it a bad Direct? I think we should probably judge a Direct based on the content it has, not on whatever random stuff we happen to expect at the time.

No, it wasn’t GameCube Port City like we were expecting/hoping. But we did get Pikmin 4, which was a total surprise. We did get Octopath Traveler II, which also seemed to surprise a lot of people (especially with it coming out so soon). We did get that new Fire Emblem, and it’s releasing in January (!!!). And we still got a Wii remaster in the end too. And of course, a new look and release date for Zelda.

I think, based on what they actually showed, that was a pretty solid Direct. Not the best ever, maybe, but certainly not the worst.

I find it very interesting that Nintendo continues to hesitate to show off Tears of the Kingdom. In addition, not showing gameplay of Pikmin 4 feels weird to me. I hope that these are Switch successor games and they are waiting to announce it to finally blow the lid off what's been cooking

You and I both, Dunban!

I didn't realise so many people didn't like the September 2019 direct. I remember thinking that was a really good one. Weren't Deadly Premonition 1 and 2 announced there?
It actually got a lot of flack for the first game being Overwatch and the last game being a remaster of an old game.

People felt that Xenoblade wasn’t good enough to be a direct ender. Plus people hated that it was a remaster and not a new game.

It had a ton of excellent third party ports announced. Divinity Original Sin 2, Obra Dinn, Overwatch, Deadly Premonition as you said, Hades too if I'm not mistaken.... Probably a bunch of others that I can't remember.

It was by far my favorite direct of the switch era and it easily cost me more money than any direct ever.
