News Nintendo Direct announced for September 13th (7 AM PT, 10 AM ET, 3 PM BST, 4 PM CEST)

January 2013 Direct wasn't really a megaton. They were in the panic mode so they were announcing everything they could, even BOTW which at that time was just starting development lol
E3 2013 was legendary when you look back. Pokémon, 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Xenoblade and two Smash titles. And many of them were quite close. I liked a lot Switch Directs but a showcase like this would be absolutely groundbreaking today.

With Direct now over I think the reason why there wasn't General in June was not because "Zelda wasn't ready" as we saw today, they did not opt for "bigger" trailer once again. The only reason I can think of then was they haven't got release date set in stone in June for Zelda.

tbh rewatching the direct, it was a good 7/10 direct. Not as good as the february one but still solid overall which is how most of the switch directs are. I especially liked how most of the announcements are pretty close to release, they're mostly coming out in the first half of 2023 with TotK releasing in May and pikmin 4 as the only vague 2023 and the rest being january and february releases. That's a great sign for another packed year even if a good portion of it will be filled with dlc. I wonder what's going to be the usual march release? Maybe that's where we're getting metroid prime re.

I find it hard to share the enthusiasm in this thread, Fami. An underwhelming direct, seven months after another underwhelming direct. Maybe the next one in January or February will have something more for me.

At least we got a name and a date for BOTW2.

Was this the last OG Switch era Direct?
I'm gonna guess no, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a Spring direct in February, and the Switch successor is announced in the summer for a holiday release. Nintendo holds everything else close to the vest why do we expect they'll announce new hardware 9 months out?

I wonder if 3D Mario will be the big launch game for it

It'll be interesting if they have used Bowser's Fury as some sort of groundwork for the next game. More powerful hardware too, so no limitations the former had to deal with.

Now that we've got a release date for Zelda, the Switch successor is definitely still a ways out, as expected

I wonder if 3D Mario will be the big launch game for it
We're probably getting a Pro first. If anything this Direct convinced me of that.

Announcing Drake in January/February for a release in May isn’t 9 months out

I knew I would miss some stuff that wasn't on the Direct! Then, it looks like this:

September 22:
Various Daylife
Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden
Dragon Quest X Offline (Japan only)
DioField Chronicle
Life is Strange Arcadia Bay Collection

November 22:
Front Mission Remake
Harvestella
Tactics Ogre Reborn

December 22:
Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core Reunion
Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song Remastered
Dragon Quest Treasures

February 23:
Octopath Traveler 2
Theathrythm Final Bar Line

2023:
Front Mission 2 Remake

TBA:
Front Mission 3 Remake
Dragon Quest III Remake
Nier is missing, comes out in october.

Man, im just...confused. Andits a sign, tht the Drake is a new switch, not just a pro, with what theyx keep in their hand.
Some are way to dissapointed, some i understand (action/platforming was kind of low here, and some genres got ignored completly for shure...generally thinking about it, i think half falls into jrpg/farming/social sim ... thats a ton...)

It is kind of interesting how most of the games we're disappointed are absent are ports or remasters.
pre direct it was whining about ports and remasters now its whining that there werent enough ports and remasters. make up your damn minds ya nerds.

There’s quite a gap between FE/Kirby in the winter and then Zelda in May. I’m pretty sure they’ll slot in a major title there, maybe 2D Mario.

I understand that, but it does feel like they have gotten complacent a bit. They dont need to try as hard as they did a few years ago, so they dont. Not to say there arent quality games. But more frequent updates on their first party titles wouldnt be the worst thing. Haha i can say the same for sony right now too
I think the fact Switch still doesn't have a new 2D Mario or a new 2D Zelda or a new Donkey Kong game is shocking. Mario Kart and Star Fox are more understandable but still pretty shocking too.

Who would have ever predicted that we'd get to 2023 without any of those after the success of Switch from Launch?!

In a way, yes. But the games in question are also very beloved titles in their respective franchises. It kinda reminds me of wanting Super Mario 3D World for the Switch soon after I attained one. It took a while, but it ultimately happened.

I find it funny that this Direct both confirms and deconfirms that the Switch Drake is happening soon. It's as if people have their beliefs of when the system is being announced and that this Direct wasn't going to change your opinion about it no matter what was shown.

I think the problem this year really was that there was no e3 direct/showcase (not that they‘d had much to show if they want to sit on their 1000 finished games to their enjoyment).

Though while it was shifting already before 2020 the focus of directs completely changed. Every direct gets so much attention these days and is seen as a main event by fans and Nintendo (to a certain extend).

Not only because of the lack of "main showcases" also because Nintendo seem to spreed out game announcements or teasers over all directs. The format feels so random. Normal directs (or mini directs) trough out the year originally were the place where they give follow up infos, some third parties, smaller first party announcements and maybe like one tease at the end, but this is hardly the case anymore.

Some change is likely due to Corona which brings/brought a lot of uncertainty to release schedules. And I understand the shift. But I feel like Nintendo needs to find a solution to draw attention away from the directs with maybe a e3 like show. There is a main direct type of showcase needed, where they could talk a bit more about the bigger games instead of having a show where you try to mix all in one box.

E3 Direct 2021 not really being different from to the others or Direct Minis and Partner Showcases that are almost as long as a general direct are only symptoms of a marketing tool that they haven’t always fully in control, but use it because it anyway because it generates hype.

Gonna be interesting when we get Nintendo Directs with "Drake"-related releases thrown in the mix. Especially the exclusives. Some fallout by fans is probably expected.

There's definitely a gap but idk if it's a gap that needs to be filed by a "major" title. FE/Kirby/Zelda alone is already a very very strong H1. I'm guessing it'll be rounded out with Stinky Horse or Advance Wars or another remaster (or some combination thereof).

With how many Kirby games Nintendo decided to push out onto the Switch in the span of a year, I now don’t think Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are out of the question for next year, especially if 2023 ends up being the “transitional” year for the Switch.

Announce Switch 2 in October, release these relatively low risk remasters of the Zelda games in November, launch Switch 2 in March 2024 potentially with Metroid Prime HD or Metroid Prime 4.

the confirmation that the switch drake (fake, doesnt exist, an elaborate prank heaped upon the world) is happening happens on literally every direct.

I have a question: What exactly is Drake and why are we expecting it to be revealed soon?
It’s the DLSS-equipped switch with 4K capabilities that some developers have for quite some time now. It’s rumored to be released in the first half of next year.

Coinciding with the rumor we have some NVIDIA leaks that sounded better than what we initially expected, it may be marketed as a revision but specs-wise sounds like a successor.

After watching some Sopranos with my brother and playing Splatoon 3 I had time to rewatch the Direct and formulate some semi-ordered thoughts. Most of the announcements didn't illicit any strong feelings one way or another. Overall I felt it was a rather bad presentation with some really good stuff in it.

The positive:
  • Octopath Traveler II: I love the first one so I'm very much looking forward to this. Once again great designs for the main cast and it's good to know that Yasunori Nishiki is back. Can't help but feel like they're putting out a tad bit too many of these HD-2D games but if the "intertwining stories" are done well, unlike the first one, I will gladly overlook that.
  • Theathrhythm: I was worried they had abandoned the series so this was a very welcome announcement. Getting all the songs could get pretty expensive but I'll just have to see once it's out. Not much to add here except yusss.
  • Pauline & Diddy in Strikers: Never got the game so I don't care as much but it's always nice to see these two get repped.
  • Pikmin 4: The white whale status of this game makes me overlook the horrible buildup and somewhat thin showing. Still, it feels very good to finally have some actual confirmation and even a release target. The change in camera perspective has me skeptical a little bit but for now I just want to be excited for a sequel to one of Nintendo's best games ever that will hopefully make its 2023 release.
  • Bayonetta 3: Look, I'm already getting this. What Nintendo needs to let me know is when I will also be able to buy the physical release of Bayo 1 in Switzerland.
  • Rain Code: I don't really care for Danganronpa, this looks more up my alley. Pretty cool concept and presentation, could be something special from its looks.
  • Radiant Silvergun: I have to stan Treasure at all times, no question about it. Will get it later this week even though I already have the game on Xbox.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: As I said in the other thread, I love everything I'm seeing and I also like the name so this was pleasant to see again. But I'm ready to play it now so feel free to pull a Xenoblade 3 and move its release date up, Aonuma.

The mixed:
  • Late 3rd Party Ports: It Takes Two was very fun but this looks like a heavily compromised version of a game in which the visual spectacle is tantamount to its enjoyment. It's fine if they want to bring it to the Switch but I think they should have just waited for the next hardware. Very nice to finally get an official English release of Fatal Frame 4. I rolled my eyes at the jiggle physics in that one shot but I'm actually curious about this game. Tunic is fantastic and everyone should get it if you haven't played it. Various Daylife wasn't very good when I played it on Apple Arcade so an easy skip despite loving Team Asano's other games. Did not expect Sifu to show up at all so that's cool but I'm somewhat worried about the performance.
  • N64 on NSO: Did absolutely not expect them to release Pilotwings so that was a nice surprise. Stadium 2 is probably going to consume my brother and me. Goldeneye is very much a monkey paw's situation. After watching the leaked XBLA remakester footage over and over again getting the emulated N64 version on both Switch and Xbox (both compromised in some way) is a bummer.
  • Switch Sports Golf: 21 holes is nice, even though they seem to be based on the old Wii Sports + Resort courses which is a bit of a bummer. Survival Golf also looks nice. Sad about the delay and no other news (wink wink Dodgeball and Basketball). Hoping for more closer to the release of the update.
  • Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe: It's no Planet Robobot but still good. What I don't understand is the weird new look. The black outline feels really out of place somehow but maybe I'll get used to it.

The negative:
  • Fire Emblem Engage: It looks much better than Three Houses graphically and I think I prefer the environmental art as well. The character art is full of misses, however, most prominently the garish main character. I also don't really like the Emblems hook at all. Coupled with the "divine dragon" stuff it's all giving me some unpleasant FE Fates flashbacks. Let's hope that it's more like Conquest in the gameplay department at least. After enjoying Three Houses a ton this was an extremely deflating start into the Direct. It's the first mainline Fire Emblem I'm considering outright skipping from what we've seen so far. Hopefully the FE4 remake exists and is more to my liking.
  • Front Mission: It's nice that they're giving these games another chance but Forever Entertainment's remakes just look completely lifeless and rob the games of their unique look. It's most apparent in the character portrait art but the 3D models have a weird look to them as well. They still have some time but I'm not very hopeful.
  • Everything Was Farming: There was literally not a single one of these games that interested me except Harvestella which we've already seen. I could maybe get excited for Rune Factory 6 but after how RF5 turned out on Switch I'm not exactly getting my hopes up. Really bizarre decision to have so many of these farming games in a single presentation.
  • Resident Evil Cloud versions: Why.
  • Tales of Symphonia: Having several PS3-level games that could easily run on Switch and forgoing those in favour of Symphonia is a very Bamco move.
  • No Advance Wars: I think everyone is past pretending that companies care about this. Just announce a release date already.
edit: whoops some of this was unfinished.

Thank you for this explanation!! Wonder how TTYD would look on it huhhh.. 👀

So who’s making Fire Emblem?

Gust and IS?

Or Gust with a few people from IS?

Or KT, Gust and IS?

Apparently with a Remake coming soon as well (granted, rumors so maybe not soon). I don’t think IS leading the charge for both. Unless said remake is far away

I'd like to think this is just a start of the things and they'll bring others one by one. Following Gust/NIS's steps.

But then again, we're still waiting for We Love Katamari and it's unknown if they'll bother with 2nd and 3rd Pac-Man World games. This is Bamco, yes.

So I finally got to watch the Direct fully, and wow, I was not ready for this.

1) Fire Emblem Engage: I was expecting Fire Emblem Next already, buy that game definitely blown my expectations. Nice to see Marth back, am eager to find out who else is!! Also January already!!
2) It Takes Two looks great on the Switch;
3) the SpongeBob game looks kinda dope?
4) Fatal Frame 4 looks amazing. Looks like a pretty high effort remaster to me?
5) I really loved that new Fitness Boxing game with JoJo(?) characters and a more adventure-esque vibe. Will definitely pick this up as I need to exercise and RingFit is too expensive;
5) Octopath Traveller II looks amazing and was such a great surprise to me;
6) Rune Factory looks sweat, and lol at the "A NEW SERIES IN THE SERIES IS IN DEVELOPMENT";
7) Front Mission isn't my thing but happy for the fans, and lol at another "COMING TO SWITCH IN THE FUTURE";
8) Pikmin Bloom showcase, I sleep. PIKMIN 4 FINALLY HAPPENING, 2023 AND PHOTOREALISTIC GRAPHICS DAMN!!!!
9) SQUARE ENIX LOVES THE SWITCH lol I can't even count how many timed exclusive games were announced today and one coming today already!!
10) Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe was something really amazing and totally unexpected to me lol, also February absolutely packed between this and a bunch of third party exclusives;
11) The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: I can't believe I won't be calling it BotW 2 anymore lol. I got spoiled right when I opened YouTube that the game would be there, but I closed fastly enough that I didn't see the title. Later it appeared on a news feed of Google lol so I got the "Tears of the ..." spoiled haha. I just wanna say that it looks absolutely fantastic. Graphics wise it's a huge leap from BotW. Loved the new mechanics and Jesus that sky is huge. Also, Nintendo making May great again.
Edit:
12) Tales of Symphonia remaster is neat!! And looks like it's timed exclusive??
13) Resident Evil everything... Cloud 💀. Think actual ports will come for Drake and an exclusive Resident Evil for Switch announced next year.
14) GOLDENEYE???? I GOT TOTALLY BLEW WHEN I SAW IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED.

I was about halfway in when I started to try to cope with the possibility of Metroid Prime not being in. Well, it sucks that we didn't get to see Samus today, but tbh there was first party galore enough that it was a great Direct without it still. I wonder what happened tho... Maybe Prime 4 won't make 2023 and they want to have it that year so the gap feels softer?

I just need to make a post about this: Nintendo got full berserk mode with this Direct lol. I was expecting a mostly quiet H1 sans Zelda, but next year's H1 already looks better than any previous year of the Switch life. Fire Emblem in January, Kirby, Octopath Traveller and more exclusive games that I forgot in February, Zelda in May, we still have March and June and April open, totally nuts.

Pikmin 4 being announced was super surprising to me and it looks like a late 2023 game(they didn't show gameplay). There were more exclusive third party stuff announced for summer 2023 and just 2023 too?

Well there was stuff from third parties announced for 2023 or later like that Front Mission 3 and new Rune Factory.

2023 is gonna be another blast of a year for Switch and H1 alone shows that. Incredible.

The continued absences of Prime HD and GB / GBA NSO are the two notable oddities for me here; but everything else adds up reasonably enough. I’ll post my full thoughts some other time but I thought it was a fine showcase. Happy to be wrong about Pikmin 4 though!

I mean I figured PrimeHD would probably be marketed somewhere closer to Prime4. And, GB/A NSO probably wouldn’t start being talked about till N64’s near eventual end of content.
