Something in the balance of the Direct was off in some parts (though maybe there is no way to properly balance all this stuff), the Pikmin Bloom part was probably there only due to pressure from Miyamoto, and the translator saying all the time Wii Shop instead of Switch Shop (at least that is how it sounded to me) kept putting me off, but looking at the actual games in the Direct it was not bad at all. Only disappointed about there being no mention of Metroid Prime remake, hopefully it exists...

Kind of a mid direct, waaay too many mid to low budget anime games, some of them might be fun but there's just too many to care for all of them. Pikmin 4 is exciting and Fire Emblem looked pretty clean despite the MC design.

As someone who didn't have crazy expectations, I loved it.

Hyped about:
  • FIRE EMBLEM!!!
  • KIRBY WII IN HD!!!
  • Rain Code looks terrific
  • Pikmin ditches the overhead view, absolutely loved that
  • Much requested ports of Factorio, Tunic and Sifu (by me)
  • Octopath looks leagues better than the first one. Please no more grinding.
  • Tales of Symphonia on the go!
  • More Front Missions!

Booo:
  • Stop with the cloud games ffs
  • Rune Factory 3 was not a great game, remaster something else Marvelous
  • Too many trailers for already out games
  • Hokuto no Ken is wasted on that silly boxing game, as a real boxer, i feel insulted
  • Goldeneye NSO???? Fuck that, I don't have any friends, let alone those have NSO memberships.

Disappointing. The only relevant announcements are Fire Emblem and the final release date for Zelda. All the rest were RPGs, remasters and farming simulators...

A bunch of things announced I really liked
-FE Engage
-Octopath Traveler II
-Theaterrhythm
-Goldeneye 007 Online
-Pikmin 4
-Story of Seasons
Fatal Frame 4

But was a bit let down no Zelda remasters or Prime Remaster games

Personally, nothing excited me in this Direct. Happy for those who enjoyed it!

I’ll write a bigger post later, bummed no Metroid and Mario, but wow what an amazing Direct. Tons of games I’m excited about!

5/10 from me, and this is coming from a big Fire Emblem, Octopath and Zelda fan. Those 3 hits weren't enough when the bulk of the direct were okay-ish looking indy games, ports and farming sims.

I mean there is no Metroid Prime Hd port and the Zelda ports weren't announced. I believe they are real but homeboys need to stop talking about them. Like I don't care personally but I'm tired of seeing people just dunk on them every time these games aren't shown.
Nate never said those would be there fyi

Needed one more big announcement to make it a great direct. Was decent but had no kind of closer at all. Certainly not E3 level, nowhere near.
No Metroid or Zelda ports was very disappointing as well. I doubt Metroid exists at this point, not getting fooled any longer until I see a reason it actually exists.
Not blaming the insiders at all but man I wish I hadn't heard those rumours. The end just gave me that tinge of disappointment when the stuff I half expected to show didn't and we got a crap Zelda trailer instead.

I love how the haters come out of the wood work when they don't like a Direct.
A Direct that got leaked by insiders. But hey "we shouldn't give them attention anymore!"

See you guys next time a Direct date leaks while you endlessly hype yourself before being toxic about all of this.

Hey there was at least one good thing to come out of this:

I just wishlisted Tunic on the eShop.

My initial thoughts:

  • We have a Zelda date and title. I know when I'm going to be taking annual leave next year. Still weird they're showing so little about it
  • Fire Emblem Engage looks nice, a lot cleaner artstyle than Three Houses. Intrigued by the fanservice angle with bringing back previous heroes. Stupid name mind.
  • Pikmin 4 appears finally. I had to wonder how much Arlo was tearing his hair out when they did a deep dive on the mobile game before the big reveal
  • Goldeneye on N64 online FINALLY, and with online play. Well done all parties involved for pulling that copyrighted miracle off. Oh and 1080 as well let's gooooooooo.
  • Octopath Traveller 2 was my personal highlight, loved the first game. And more interconnected stories this time? Yes please.
  • Not a huge amount else grabbed my attention. VERY RPG and farm sim heavy. Although that remake of the GameCube Harvest Moon (have they renamed the series?) was a nice surprise at least, I enjoyed that on.
  • Metroid Prime continues to be the bane of leakers everywhere lol. No sniff of the other Zelda titles either. Wonder what's happening there.
  • Personally a bit bummed still no word on Advance Wars. I guess Nintendo are waiting until the Ukraine situation is fully cleaned up before they commit to a new date.

Overall a couple of bit hitting headlines, wasn't a top tier direct for me personally but undeniably some big surprises that weren't leaked. 7/10 for me I think

This would be low mid Direct but Pikmin 4 + Zelda kinda saved it. I don't know what was the point of talking about Bloom in the General Direct but okay. Zelda should have full trailer instead of teaser.

I was actually really disappointed by the lack of NSO update beyond the N64.

I didn't think the GBA would appear but the GB/C seemed like a lock.

It was a great Direct in terms of content, but the pacing was off for me.

Also, I have more questions than answers after it... Even aside from the obvious omissions, did Nintendo even announce one new first party game for this year in this Direct? Surprising.

Nothing for Mario Strikers either and the biggest soccer event on the planet is in two months. Though, I guess they could just tweet update news out.

Let this be a lesson to those who listen to so many "insiders" as if they're not just whispering chidren on a playground, lmao, they're just attention whores (in my humblest of opinions.) Cheap hypebeasts for the easy marks and advertising gigs and all that.
What on earth are you talking about? Insiders told us exactly when it was being announced and aired and told us everything they knew for sure was in it, which was all 100% correct.

Do you guys even actually read what insiders say or do you just assume when stuff you expect isn't there that it's somehow their fault?

Didn’t get a lot of stuff I wanted but got some stuff I never considered. Pretty satisfied overall.

There was a weird amount of farm RPGs. SOS: Wonderful Life, Harvestella, Faefarm, Rune Factory…I get everyone’s aiming for the AC audience but someone should have probably stopped them from all being in one Direct.

And it’s weird to get Pokémon Stadium on NSO but, apparently, no Game Boy Pokémon games.

But overall I liked it. I got a Kirby game, Octopath II, and Pikmin 4, I can’t complain.

They weren’t here when the insiders got the direct timing down though lol

So general consensus is this Direct signaled the end of the Switch and we are expecting the successor with BotW2 next spring? The tone of the Direct (especially for Nintendo first party) seemed to be "we are done with Switch, we are holding things back for Switch 2."

Not too much for me in the Direct, especially with all of the farming sims and remasters, but I'm confused by all the folk saying it was an awful one. Stuff like Fire Emblem, Octopath Traveler, and Pikmin are pretty notable stuff, even if you don't care for them, and getting good games like It Takes Two is definitely appreciated. Then again, it probably helps that there's plenty to play on the system for this year and this was just to focus on the rest of what was coming out for the year. Plus, yeah, definitely shows that Nintendo is hearing up for a successor next year

I'm just disappointed we didn't get to see more of BotW 2. Like constantly getting teasers for it is fine...once we already have a proper trailer for it

I don’t understand how narrow your tastes can be to actually think this.
What do you mean lol, if I don't like farming simulators, half of this direct was already useless. And in general it was like 30 minutes of "headlines" with middling to bad looking games. I guess the FF theathrythm game looks nice? If Octopath can actually work out the issues of the first game, then yay?

But from Nintendo themselves, Pikmin 4 is a thing and 10 seconds of a game we've been waiting ages for.

Personally I think one of the weaker directs and I'm disappointed a bit.
But I'm glad to finally have the name and date of Zelda.
they really are waiting for the Drake reveal to show us some gameplay for their games hm?
Yeah I'm hoping that too.
Drake reveal in January with Zelda Blowout and then a direct with games in drake graphics in march

Nate never said those would be there fyi
And I replied to the other person saying that I know that but he has mentioned them and the people who act in bad faith here and elsewhere are going to continue to drag him. I thought the last part made that clear but I guess not lol. I'm not attacking Nate. I'm not saying Nate said anything. I'm saying that people on the internet are petty, stupid and vile haha.

Don't really understand the pushback against insiders when a good bit of games shown were revealed from them (Fire Emblem, It Takes Two, Goldeneye, etc.)
