Started so well, looked promising again when Pikmin 4 was announced, ending was pretty flat considering the last trailer for Zelda showed off more.

A few things I’m excited for, too many farming sims that are trying to be Animal Crossing (while missing what really makes Animal Crossing successful).

February direct surely has new hardware.

That really fell off at the end. Should have been announced on social media over a month or two. I’m now convinced the next gen or enhanced will have the other games in development when announced.

they really are waiting for the Drake reveal to show us some gameplay for their games hm?

I can't believe I let myself forget the golden rule for even a moment:

rumors can tell you when a Direct will be but they can't tell you what's in it

Im mixed. I dont want to say the announcements were bad, but many were just not for me personally, like fire emblem and the myriad of farming games. But for my tastes, zelda, pikmin, octopath and kirby saved this from being a 3/10 direct to a strong 7/10. Happy for fe fans though! As for prime, lets remember that plans change, and some times misinformation is put out on purpose by nintendo. I went in with pretty reasonable expectations, and while underwhelmed, i wasnt entirely dissapointed. I hope prime hd doesnt become the next prime trilogy hd, pokemon stars, or starfox grand prix though

Can't wait to talk about everything I loved in the direct:
  • Splatfest
  • Pikmin 4
  • Zelda date
  • Wait that's it

Koizumi give me my 40 mins back

Great direct. Lots of cool stuff in there. Lots of farming sims too. Now I wasn't even expecting much but there are so many games coming that it's going to be hard to pick a few out of them to buy.

Octopath Traveler 2 looked crazy good though, I mean wow. Where is my demo.

That was a weird direct. So many third party announcements and SO MANY rpg farm games.

Nintendo’s Pikmin 4 was just a teaser. Then ANOTHER TEASER for Tears of the Kingdom. I swear Nintendo is clearly holding back for Switch Drake. Drake will launch on May 12. You can feel nintendo is holding back for Drake

honestly there wasn't a lot of stuff I even wanted out of a direct at the moment but this had the two biggest things in fire emblem and the pokemon stadium games, plus some dlc updates and a couple interesting third party things

guess it also would have been nice to see the gameboy nso stuff but I can't really even think of anything else realistic I wanted out of this

Gonna toot my own horn about the lack of TP/WW here.

I think this direct taught us a very valuable lesson…never trust insiders kids
... What???

Insiders claimed this direct would have It Takes Two and probably Fire Emblem. Nobody claimed to know anything else for a fact.

Lol you guys enjoyed the partner showcase more than this general it seems :D see, labels mean nothing.

Anyway, for me this was one of the best directs ever. Sorry if you were disappointed.

Disappointment is also inevitable when you make grandiose wish lists prior to the direct and your dreams are unfulfilled,

I think this was one of the worst directs in recent times, even worse than the one where they announced splatoon 3 or ended with a xenoblade remaster lmao.

I mean, pikmin 4 was cool i suppose and zelda getting a title and 10 seconds of gameplay was decent, but what were those other games? How many farming jrpgs we saw lmao.

Also thanks Snitch for being a reliable leaker : ) fatal frame was cool.

I don't expect WWHD & TPHD to release at this point. Not in the near future anyway.

MP1R clearly exists and is finished but I wonder when they'll announce it now.

Nice to see a definite spring release date for BotW2 and finally Pikmin 4 is announced as well!

at this point these Directs being terrible is the norm and what should be expected

FE looked horrendous as well as everything else lol Switch supposed good third party support is a meme at this point

Oops, no Metroid.

Really liked it overall though. Gotta think it over a bit but I’d probably give it anywhere from a B+ to an A.

Please refrain from using misogynistic language and antagonizing other users over the topic of insiders. -Derachi, Hologram, paranoodle
Let this be a lesson to those who listen to so many "insiders" as if they're not just whispering chidren on a playground, lmao, they're just attention seekers (in my humblest of opinions.) Cheap hypebeasts for the easy marks and advertising gigs and all that.

Pikmin 4, Front Mission news, Zelda, online GoldenEye, Octopath 2 straight up completed- I'm eating! If I was a fucking farm game sim person I'd be crying right now I think, that was the byline for like eight games hahaha

Edited to remove sexist language, my bad!

I think that Direct really showed the Switch‘s age, with basically every game shown. I expected BOTW2 to look a bit better than the first one, but that gameplay looked a bit rough.
Style, music, aesthetics were top notch of course.

This direct was Christmas for farming game fans, holy cow.

  • Christmas
  • Farming
  • Holy Cow

I see what you did there.

But yeah, pretty meh Direct. Always down for a new FE, but I honestly think the character designs in this one are absolutely awful. Octopath 2 is very exciting. Harvestella could be fun, and finally getting a title and release date for Zelda is nice even if the 'trailer' was underwhelming. Didn't care for anything else.

I thought the direct was bad. I do not want to simulate farming and I don’t really like anime (don’t say it Dardan)

Pikmin Bloom has been out for almost a year and got several minutes???

Pikmin 4, Zelda, and the N64 stuff were honestly the only highlights for me

What an awful direct, but I guess it’s my fault for hoping for stuff based on what some people online said would be here.

But at least we’re getting theatrhythm

Ultimately it was an okay Direct for me.

Octopath, Fire Emblem and Zelda put in a lot of work for it. Pikmin 4 was also great.

But it had too much filler that they spent too much time on. And i'll be flat out honest, Miyamoto talking more than 3 minutes about Pikmin Bloom is Nintendoland Fireworks level of unneeded shit.

My bingo card was an absolute bust lol

I guess the BotW2 date is suspicious, but I specified plural there so I didn't count it. Not that it mattered anyway lol.

Yeah, that was an underwhelming Direct. The Switch's lineup is so incredibly saturated with 'slower-paced' genres (JRPGs, Farming Sims, VNs) and it really, really showed here. I have time in my life for those sorts of games, but it's rare, and there's already so many older ones to play anyway. Pikmin 4 announcement was great but it was a 'nothing' announcement, and getting a BotW2 title and date was nice... but, honestly, the "tease upon tease," method they're choosing here has reduced my hype instead of increasing it.

Anyways. With the Direct done, I bid ya'll farewell, and thank you all for making the Direct so fun despite the tepidness. I'll (probably) be back in 2023, ready for the year where we (hopefully, maybe) get the Drake. Bye! :)

Honestly for me it was an 8. However if I were to look at it objectively it's definitely bottom tier for directs during the Switch era. NSO stuff is great. Fire Emblem was good. Pikmin 4 deserves gameplay footage and BOTW2 deserved more time than Just fucking Dance.

7 too many RPGs and 4 too many farming sims. Just kind of insane. Nintendo needs to tell Square and Marvelous to simmer the fuck down haha.

So objectively speaking...it's a 5/10. Maybe a little generous there.

To be clear, Nate said on his podcast (after correctly predicting announcement and date of direct) he only knew that Mario Rabbids would be in the direct (it was). He also didn’t think WW and TP HD would be there.

After first saying WW and TP were name dropped it for this direct, Grubb then made it seem it was what his cohost Mike heard (who is not a leaker/insider). However, he did seem sure Metroid Prime was a holiday title which doesn’t seem to be the case. Grubb is right like 99% of the time there should be no reason he or anyone should be harassed.

Interested in:

  • Fire Emblem Engage
  • Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life
  • Octopath Traveler 2
  • Rune Factory 3 Special
  • Atelier Ryza 3
  • Pikmin 4
  • Raincode
  • Tales of Symphonia Remastered
  • Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe

Pikmin 4 is a dream game even if we didn't really see anything of it. The remasters/remakes that did get announced are ones I haven't played, so that's definitely more exciting to me than Prime/WW/TP would have been. Ended up being a pretty solid direct, with my main disappointment being certain games only getting a brief glimpse.

January / Feb Direct is obviously going to be a blow-out for new hardware at this point, so this Direct makes sense.

All that was really missing to me were the "easy wins" per rumors, i.e. the HD MP / Zelda / FZero etc. that don't need new hardware. But, if you look at the release schedule you start to see there's not much room for them, so eh
