One thing is for certain, the development history of Metroid Prime (Trilogy) on Switch is an interesting one, one that seems to have involved many changes.

Looking forward to the day we hear more unknown details about it.

You know, I thought the animosity of Three Houses pre-release was just due to how much Fates had soured people on the franchise, but maybe the FE fanbase is just like this?

I mean, for as much as people rag on the Pokemon discourse, it took like, one game for people to suddenly become a lot more positive, and Arceus wasn't even received quite as well as Three Houses
The Fire Emblem franchise has basically always been in a state of "old fans" claiming the new games suck and ruined their beloved ip with a change of artstyle and gameplay focus. When FE first started getting localized in the 00's, fans who had been importing games lamented how they went with a more wide spread "anime" aesthetic over a more classic fantasy art style that the original FE games had. The games were "dumbed down" for Americans with the introductions of tutorials, the ability to "infinitely grind for exp", and other qol improvements which removed the challenge.

On the brighter side, did you notice the Metroid logo in the Goldeneye trailer? (top left corner) That's gotta be a tease of things to come right?
No lol it's often the Metroid logo, they just use the same account to record the NSO footages

The think that puzzle me is that in the holiday slot there is only Pokemon, and if I rember well Pokemon is almost never alne
This is one of the disappointments of the Direct for me. I expected at least one reveal for the holiday season, even if it wasn't Zelda HD or Metroid. November is just pokemon and December is pretty empty as is.

Q1 2023 sounds pretty rad though.

When Koizumi said "we have a special guest" I was miles away from guessing that we would see Pikmin 4 being announced lmao
I was just ready to cringe at Mario Pratt trailer

Bayonetta and Dragon Quest Treasures are other Q4 games Nintendo is helping publish. Pokemon just gets November. I think Metroid Prime and maybe even Advance Wars could still maybe be Twitter announcements.

My sources aren't aware of WWHD or TPHD (yet). Now to be clear, that doesn't mean they don't exist. But I can't talk about games until my information is more iron-clad.

The rumors for Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are mostly coming from other outlets: Eurogamer, VGC and VentureBeat (Jeff Grubb). In their defense, it would be bizarre if all three websites are wrong! Unless all three sites share the same sources.

I'm only able to confirm Metroid Prime HD with complete confidence. When I say confidence, I mean 100% confidence. My sources on this are just way too good and they haven't lead me astray yet.
Such a shame that Metroid Prime appears to be missing the series' anniversary, but I can't wait to play it once it's announced and released. Are you a Metroid fan? After Dread's reveal last year, I marathon'd every 2D game for the first time and loved them all, but have yet to step into the 3D games. Dread was my GOTY last year.

It's impressive that after years of complaining about Wii U ports people are now complaining about no ports (of games that were all available on Wii U) in a Direct. Who'd have imagined that.

I just watched the Direct again, just to be sure, and yes, the Pikmin Bloom section is the worst thing I have watched on my phone for 7 and a half years.
It was even worse the second time. Was like 4 minutes of life wasted. I guess they really want people on it and aren’t getting the download and engagement numbers, but still.

I'm not disappointed in regards to the Switch version considering I've been expecting it to just be the original N64 ROM on NSO for awhile now, but it's bit of a shame we're not getting that fancy HD remakester with online play on Xbox.

It still is great to see GE come back officially after all these years, but yeah...
Yea OK, fair enough.

I am surprised Microsoft agreed to those terms actually. Nintendo clearly drew the line in the sand on the online multiplayer. It makes me think there must be more to it. Maybe we will have more GoldenEye news further down the road.

I don't believe Dragon Quest Treasures is being published by Nintendo. They probably paid for exclusivity, but it seems to be a full Square Enix project otherwise.

Honestly, this is the type of stuff I love in directs. There's always something goofy that will make me chuckle, and seeing Miyamoto gleefully show off his phone screen and where he's walked definitely fits the bill. The volleyball segment from the February direct was pretty similar, and of course there's the infamous Mario Movie cast.

Reminds me a lot of the terrible E3 live presentation quotes Nintendo used to have. All part of the charm, the way I see it.

Hey Emily! Hope you don't mind me asking, but I'm genuinely curious about how people within Nintendo feel about these completed games being sat on. In the case of something like Metroid Prime HD, would your sources be similarly baffled about the lack of an announcement today? Is it just sort of a shrug and a "Nintendo will be Nintendo" reaction, or do you get the feeling it gets to be frustrating?

We're just on the outside looking in, of course, but I wonder if the devs that work on a Fire Emblem Engage, Metroid Prime HD, or any of the other games that Nintendo waits to release get a bit frustrated with waiting to have their work shown.

If they added MP1 and the Zelda ports but took out Pikmin 3 from the direct, people would complain about too many ports.

There is literally no winning in any situation.

Yeah it's incredible

Remember the directs during the WiiU era and compare to this one. How are people complaining ? It's madness !
It's a lot easier to be nostalgic for a time when Nintendo has nothing to show and had to do a deep dive and developer interview to pad a presentation, it's a lot harder to go back and watch someone talk about Yoshi's Wooly World for 5 minutes.

Actually it's Pikmin 8

Pikmin 1
Pikmin 2
Pikmin 3 ie Pikmin 1 New Play Control
Pikmin 4 ie Pikmin 2 New Play Control
Pikmin 5 ie Pikmin 3
Pikmin 6 ie Hey Pikmin
Pikmin 7 ie Pikmin 3 Deluxe
Pikmin 8 ie Pikmin 4
I can't believe you actually skipped Pikmin Bloom after it got like 5 minutes on the Direct haha.

In a lot of ways we're having it better than ever as Nintendo fans, especially in comparison to that era.

I figure most people within Nintendo are fine with the game being sat on since either that means they are probably working on something else.

As for feeling frustrated, why would they? The game is gonna be shown off eventually unless something catastrophic happens.

If its just the n64 rom with online this was a terrible deal for Nintendo.

LMFAO wait, so Nintendo fans get a Rom with middling online and Xbox fans get an actual remaster

From the official website:

As first announced during the latest Nintendo Direct broadcast, the Nintendo 64 classic is coming soon to the console’s Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online service. Microsoft also confirmed news today (September 13) that a 4K resolution remaster is on its way to Xbox’s Game Pass.

Exclusive to the new Switch version of the 1997 title will be online play, allowing 007 fans across the world to take part in the popular four person multiplayer mode together.

Probably how Nintendo allowed this deal. I'll take the rom with online 🤷🏽‍♀️

From what I understand, Nintendo was sitting on Fire Emblem Engage because they were still busy developing DLC for it. That was the main reason why Nintendo was sitting on a finished game for so long.
Definitely reinforces just how much DLC we're gonna get next year. Fire Emblem Engage, Splatoon 3, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 are all gonna receive story expansions (assuming Engage follows the Three Houses template) and we're still gonna get three more Booster Course Pass waves to boot. Not to mention Tears of the Kingdom likely getting its own expansion pass.

Throwing some, if not all, of that DLC onto NSO alongside GB/GBC/GBA would be a great way to try and pull people over to the Expansion Pack, especially if that's then tied to the Drake.

Okay, so Square Enix's release schedule looks like this on the Switch:

September 22:
Various Daylife
Dragon Quest X Offline (Japan only)
Life is Strange Arcadia Bay Collection

November 22:
Front Mission Remake
Harvestella

December 22:
Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core Reunion
Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song Remastered
Dragon Quest Treasures

February 23:
Octopath Traveler 2
Theathrythm Final Bar Line

2023:
Front Mission 2 Remake

TBA:
Front Mission 3 Remake
Dragon Quest III Remake

This is absolutely bonkers. SE is on fire.

When Miyamoto said "let's take a quick look at my screen" I thought he would accidentally leak his Famiboards tab but he managed to hide it just in time.

DioField Chronicle is this month too, right? And, while it's not on Nintendo platforms, Valkyrie Elysium is this month as well.

EDIT: There's also the new Voice of Cards today, NieR in October, and Tactics Ogre in November, all on Switch. New Star Ocean is also slated for 2022, and we've got Forspoken, FFXVI, and FFVII Rebirth (lol) that are slated for 2023 as well, just not on Nintendo platforms.

Just an absolutely ridiculous lineup from them.

Neir Automata, No Man's Sky, Return to Dreamland are all old games. Tunic is newer but still old news at this stage and was 'free' on game pass too. Now I accept that not everyone has other consoles, but a lot of people do... and for those people - It Takes Two looks terrible compared to the other versions. It's cool that you can play wirelessly and with some kind of friend pass, but again - it's free on other platforms and looks better. Sonic Frontiers for the switch looks terrible compared to the other versions. Granted that's just the reality of the system having an affect but still...

The rest I'll grant you is new and / or good. Its just a shame that in 40 minutes there wasn't anything truly exciting. For me personally anyway.
I felt kind of similarly. If you’ve never played a few of those older games then its a great line up, but since I have their isnt a ton for me to look forward to in the immediate future on my switch. I think thats okay though, being dissapointed and elated are two very valid opinions to have about this direct, as a board, lets not tell people they are wrong for feeling the way they do.

btw my only post on the metroid prime remake leak and absence is that it's pretty funny that we're getting metroid prime rumours since 2018 and we're still waiting for it. The same goes with windwaker and twilight princess hd. And the fact that they're just old game rereleasing and they still dominate every nintendo direct discussion is hilarious.

Haha, i think for my own well being, i stopped caring about them to an extent. Will it be nice if they come, yeah, but im not gonna hold my breath.

Tbf there were a lot more Directs in the Wii U era. Wii U era also had megatons like January 2013 and E3 2014.
January 2013 was a megaton in the middle of months of nothingness.
I prefer more quality games better spaced out.
I mean, splatoon just released, we had xenoblade a month ago, Pokemon is coming, fire emblem too, and that's without counting third party games.

Absolutely loved the direct. Fire Emblem, Theatrhythm, Fatal Frame, Pikmin 4, Octopath 2 and Ryza 3 were all very welcome announcements but hands down my favorite reveal bar none was Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star. That’s just the kind of wacky out there shit that makes me grin ear to ear and reminds me why i love videogames.

I can’t wait to hear Nate say he’s starting to hear about a possible trailer drop for Drake or an upcoming presentation on it. The hype will be through the roof.

That’s because Nintendo had no choice. They needed their game announcements to try to save the Wii U. They’re in luxury mode now with so much third party support. They don’t need to have lots of huge first party announcements in one presentation

Today was a wonderful direct to me. Honestly I've been waiting for a Fire Emblem/Zelda double whammy forever, and finally got that!

I'm honestly really glad about the Fire Emblem details being shared by Emily. I remember when she first shared, I found it sort of confusing and worrisome, but I had made peace with it by today and genuinely think it looks awesome. And it's coming so soon!!

Then we got Octopath II, Kirby Return Deluxe, and Radiant Silvergun. Not to mention some awesome multiplayer games coming to N64 NSO with online support.

Also as a big Rune Factory fan, I'm really excited to see what the new direction will be for the series.

Today has been heaven for me honestly hahaha

I understand that, but it does feel like they have gotten complacent a bit. They dont need to try as hard as they did a few years ago, so they dont. Not to say there arent quality games. But more frequent updates on their first party titles wouldnt be the worst thing. Haha i can say the same for sony right now too
