I feel like if that scenario happens Nintendo would be announcing another new Zelda game. Not TP/WW remasters for Switch, but something substantial like the next multiplayer Zelda or a remake of the Oracle games. They either

1) End with botw2
2) Mention BotW2 will be shown later, here's another new Zelda to tide you over
3) Don't mention BotW2 at all
Zelda 2 remake 🙏🏽

Yeah I could very well see no new botw2 info here. I think it's likely they're saving the big blowout for the Drake announcement event (assuming they have an event)

Tempering my expectations for next week's Direct.

Out of all the rumors, the new Fire Emblem has the strongest odds of appearing in this Direct. Because I honestly can't see a scenario where Fire Emblem doesn't release early next year. The game is finished and ready to go. I'll be a little baffled if it doesn't appear in the Direct.

A word of caution. I like Jeff Grubb as both a person and as a reporter. I think he's super cool. But judging by his tweet below, it doesn't seem like he's 100% confident about the Direct being a 'Zelda blowout'. I could be wrong, but that's how I'm interpreting his tweets? So, I think it would be wise for people to manage their expectations going into this Direct. I don't think any insiders actually know the full contents of this Direct.

This is just for the sake of speculation, but do you think Nintendo would schedule both Fire Emblem and BotW2 in Q1?

We were given a spring time frame for BotW2, and people think that could be them aiming to get it out this FY by the end of March.

Ok I'm confused, I thought Grubb said recently that he was very confident that we would see the Zelda ports this upcoming Direct.

He did say that. I guess it’s the “Zelda blowout” part. That part he wouldn’t be sure on because that implies the ports + a lot more. The Zelda ports alone aren’t a “Zelda blowout”

I believe Grubb clarified on stream that by "Zelda blowout" they just mean WW/TP and another look at BotW2.

I think it's always good to temper expectations. Believing Zelda will be at a showcase has bitten me in the butt plenty of times before, so I never 100% expect it. And you're right; it seems Jeff's Zelda stuff is mostly speculation with maybe a pinch of information to back it up.

I still think it's likely something Zelda is there, if just because this is one of the longest stetches without Zelda content in some time. And if they are sticking to BotW2 in Spring, it seems logical to me for it to be here. But Nintendo will always Nintendo, and they do things their way. So Zelda is for sure not a certainty. Mostly a strong hope for me at this point.

I'm definitely feeling FE.

Out of the scenarios I listed earlier, I'm leaning Prime HD opener, BotW2 focus, and FE closer.

BotW2 might steal the conversation sphere whether or not it shows up. It really is that huge, and many people are just simply feeling that the time is here to start talking about it, and I think Nintendo must know this. If they don't show it for one reason or another, I think that they've just simply put it in a separate Direct 2-3 weeks from now. Which would be a huge bummer as far as I'm concerned, but a bummer that would probably even itself out by the fact of it being a more substantial look.

Regardless, the time has come, friends.

We eating.

Sounds good enough to me, honestly. I would actually be fine with just the former, but hey I'm easily satisfied. I haven't be able to keep up with the thread, but did the majority expect more things beyond the ones you listed?

For the Wind Waker and Twillight Princess I could imagine that they'll be announced in the direct. But for BOTW2 I see them doing just a short teaser with the name reveal and then announce a Zelda Direct (Similarly to Animal Crossing last year).
The exact release date I think we'd get at TGA, I know that Nintendo dosen't really seem to need shows like these anymore, but it would make sense IMO.

That would be a great way to kick off the year. I would love to see Fire Emblem in February and BotW2 in March.

Eh I'm only expecting that some FE announcement is guaranteed. The question is just what'll get announced like if it'll be an original installment as rumored or will it be a remake of an older game instead. Or even both. And if there's more than that. And ofc the release date.

To be fair, he never said with 100% certainty that there would be a Zelda Blowout. He THINKS it would be a Zelda Blowout assuming we get WWHD/TPHD and BOTW2 news. It's sites like VGC that started reporting the whole thing as a "Zelda Blowout" matter of fact.

That's what I'm concerned about. I feel like sites are taking his podcast predictions and spinning them into news stories.

Where we droppin, Link?

I really just want at least one game in this direct that I want to play, Metroid Prime Remaster would be enough for me and the Zelda ports a bonus. There just hasn't been much that I like to play in recent Nintendo announcements.

I think the majority expected just WW/TP and BotW2. The term "Zelda blowout" maybe just made people think grander like a Mario 35th anniversary style blowout when thats not the impression Grubb meant to convey.

3 Zelda games on the same event is overkill and not the best way to have good sales on all of them, but we'll see.

About the FE game, IIRC some really ugly screenshots leaked a few months ago, so it's going to be kind of disappointing if the next FE game is another ugly game. I love 3H, but the game doesn't look that good and I hoped for a new IS gorgeous game (like Shadows of Valentia on the 3DS or the Paper Mario game on the Switch).

Monday @ 10am:

Tune in 9/13 at 3 p.m. PT for a #NintendoDirect livestream featuring roughly 45 minutes of information focused mainly on #NintendoSwitch games launching this winter and a deep look at the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

If Emily believes Fire Emblem has the strongest odds in showing. Jeff is this confident in Metroid Prime coming this holiday along with WWHD/TPHD being in this direct, I’d imagine expectations would begin with those 4 games.

Directs rarely turn out like the most obvious predictions, I do think it might even be premature to absolutely expect WW/TP HD there.

I really Hope we see at least something from Zelda BoTW2, it has to imo, too much Time went past since we saw it… Thats my only expectation I have for this upcoming Direct, please Nintendo don’t let us wait more…
…we Zelda Fans are starving

I'm hoping we get some Zelda news, but I can't expect it. Zelda rarely shows up in non-E3 Directs, unless it's for a remaster or remake.

Mike Minottie and Jeff said it will be there. I’ll take their word as the truth.
Did they say they know it'll be there or did they say they expect it there because they know the games are releasing soon or are done or whatever?

The line gets a little blurred sometimes. On Game Mess Mornings yesterday, he said "We have heard that Zelda stuff will be there. And by that, the name of the next Zelda game and the Zelda ports from Wii U. I hope that's the case. It seems like it will be the case. It's what we've heard."

Phrasing it that way makes it sound more like they have a source beyond speculation? Especially when he followed it by "and then there's things that have been rumored" and several more games

Yeah, but since Nintendo skipped this Year E3 Direct, it could be shown in the upcoming Direct🤷

But in the End, you never can Predict Nintendo…

I hope the new FE will be shown too! I can’t wait for it.
Do you think there is still a chance for it to release in December? Tbh I don’t think so but I really hope so lmao

Eh technically they could since there's nothing too major releasing that month. Just that Nintendo often doesn't have major releases during that month for whatever reason.

Honestly, if we get this, I'll be a happy camper and everything else will be a neat extra thing.

Yeah I thought the same.
Tbh for me December won’t be the best month in the end because I’ll have all the uni exams between Dec and Jan… but at the same time I want it lmao

I think that the best month for me would be end of Jan or the beginning of Feb, in that case I’ll be free to play till the beginning of March 😭

Eh generally the best for me since after my uni exams, I get a 1month+ break since I don't work at the moment (due to me being awful at time management and my effort in trying to do anything is already shaky enough) which I need lul.

Who said anything about a blowout? When is a full reveal trailer a blowout? It’s like the trailer that says “this is it, it’s coming relatively soon and we need to start talking about it. Here’s your first real trailer and you’ll get something BotW 2 big beginning of 2023”.
BOTW2 was featured in the same Direct a new 2D Metroid was announced and that game still became a) a GOTY candidate for that year and b) the best selling Metroid game of all time.

Sure, BOTW2 will probably be the most talked about announcement but it's still a while out so it's not like people's attention is going to forever be fixated on that game. Maybe for a few weeks, but after that people are gonna be like: "Okay, let's see what that Metroid remaster or those Zelda ports are all about"

i hope it shows up! though, i'm quite surprised that the warriors game hasn't received any DLC

You would say FE moreso than Prime remakester? Or were you just meaning brand new games

Yes but afaik he said that the info comes from the GiantBomb guy, who is surely right sometimes but he predicted the wrong week for the direct and brought the Queen thing up.
True but the thing about the Queen is, it WAS after all a possibility that the Direct got delayed. And I think Dan just heard the week that just passed as the Direct date.

Can't personally verify anything else he might have reported on

I agree. I always tell people to be hyped. Disappointment is fine. It’s just a hobby
Yeah, the February Direct 2021 only really had Famicom Detective Club for me and the hype for that was HUGE. But hey I got one thing I liked + I have dozens of games I wanna play anyway. And other stuff to do as well of course. I'll be fine

Really hope the direct isn't just a portageddon. Even with Gust Emblem it'd be pretty boring if the other major game reveals are Wind Waker and Twilight Princess (again; fifth official release for TP), Metroid Prime (again) and F-Zero GX (first time rerelease, yay).

I don't expect it to be exactly that; it'd just be nice to see something more. September directs have been kind to my personal tastes before (2019 having the quadruple threat of Famicom Detective Club, TMS, moon and Xenoblade DE; 2021 with 3D Kirby and Bayo 3 as the major headliners even) so I hope Nintendo are once again cooking up something nice for my birthday month. Maybe a look at the rumored Donkey Kong, something cool for casuals like Tomodachi 3 or Style Savvy 5, some Three Hopes or Mario Party DLC, and a localisation announcement for Buddy Mission BOND on top. At least two (I think people are sleeping on Three Hopes DLC and it'll definitely be there) of those would be nice.

I just can't imagine a scenario when BOTW2 is not there. It will not be full blowout but a full 2-3 minute trailer is not that much to ask for, they have plenty of time to do blowout. But it's time to start some marketing for BOTW2 and that time starts in 3 days.
