They could well be providing development assistance on the next 3D Mario. A 2023 release date might have been planned as early as 2018; especially if Nintendo already had a 2022 to 2023 target in mind for the Drake hardware.
 
I still maintain that, even with the lack of E3 also being a reason, that a big reason we didn’t have a June direct is because they weren’t ready to show BotW2.

Just the fact that they’re having a general increases my hope a lot for it
 
I always wonder how the new hardware (assuming it's out within a year) plays a role in what is she isn't announced yet. They definitely need to save some reveals for when they announce that.

I personally don’t expect, perhaps foolishly, any new game to be announced unless it releases before the Drake. No, I will not elaborate. (unless someone asks me to but not before I’m home)

This could very have played a significant part in it. Personally hoping it's as different to BotW as MM was to OOT.

I've thought the same, and no E3 gave them a good reason to hold off. On that note, I really don't think we'll have a General now and them NOT show BOTW2, it's just way too expected at this point.

They said the game is out this Spring as in, within the next nine months, no way this game's marketing cycle kicks off less than 6 months before launch. The ONLY way we don't see it next week is if they're planning a dedicated event for it in the coming weeks (although even then they should announce it during the show just to calm people's worries). Even if it gets delayed, I feel like they HAVE to show something, you can't go from, "standalone video for delay announcement" to "Nintendo Direct mentions a delay" with no new info on the game since 2021!

I wish your mom the best; I also had a mastoid infection years ago, unfortunately I had to have surgery in my case which affected my sense of taste.

I'll go even crazier: Bowser's Fury was an experiment to get them acclimated with 3D platforming experience, as a whole. Because THEY are the ones actually bringing DK to the modern age with his own 3D platformer!

The main EAD team, of course, is hard at work with Mario.

Splatoon 3 is my god damn GOTY. Wooow.

I don't even care about a September Direct anymore.

Give more Mario characters spinoffs. Captain Toad is great and deserves a sequel. Make another go at a Peach game, without the emotion stuff. Give Bowser his own game where you have to take over the Mushroom Kingdom. I'd take any of these over another meh sports game for sure.
 
Even though there's no title, that Captain America/Black Panther game sounds badass. Really hope that turns out well, can't wait to see it in action.
 
Nintendo should, like, do a full BotW 2 blowout, then still not reveal the title til it's leaked by a retailer by listing the game too early by accident.
