The Switch already imho has the best console library ever (subjectively speaking, ofc), so adding the greatest hits from earlier consoles to it just deeply cements that place, notwithstanding the hopefully still great games to come (I have a lot of faith in Splatoon 3, Pokémon SV, M+R:SoH, BOTW2, MP4 etc.)
Admittedly there are still a couple of things missing for me, Yakuza for example, but yeah, I feel the same. To think what the next Switch will bring along with backwards compatibility... pretty darn neat.

Are we coming to the end of a generation though? I thought Drake will be positioned as a revision, which probably means no Switch 2 until 2026-2027 or so.

No, Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart DLC being rolled out until 2023/2024 is enough evidence for me that a Switch 2 is not on the horizon yet.
I don’t even think it’s necessary to make a distinction between Drake and a Switch 2. They‘ll just keep making revisions until they need something different. I‘m pretty sure that the lines between generations are going to get blurred more and more going forward.

The Drake will be a backwards compatible, 4K Switch, with some exclusive third-party games and crossgen Nintendo games. Sometime along the way, the previous Switch will be discontinued, and the newest Nintendo games will stop running on it.
There's no reason to believe Nintendo/3rd parties will stop supporting the original Switch that quickly if Drake is more of a GBC style revision and not a clean cut next generation. There were still original gameboy compatible games released in 2001, the same year the GBA released.

I’m just hoping for Metroid prime, fire emblem , Zelda, maybe F Zero is Nate is right about that.

Either way, gives me something to look forward to
Recently I’ve gotten into the F-Zero games and holy sweet shit on a stick those games are great (I tried both F-Zero and F-Zero X on NSO).

Like an iPhone. A gen 2 iPhone is still an iPhone. A gen 2 Switch is still a Switch, and not a new product line. A GameCube is not a gen 2 N64 for example.
how is that meaningfully distinct from a Pro in this space? phone generations don't really get exclusive software

Sure they do. Some apps are only compatible with iPhone A or newer. It's the same idea here.

It's distinct from a pro because Sony and MS decided to define a "pro" as a more powerful version that has no exclusive software and does not replace the base model.

While Nintendo has been doing this "gen 2" thing since the 90s with a very different definition.

so sort of like the New 3DS? I'm not sure why we're looking to a different market for comparison if it's that simple
I mean, personally I think it will be more like the GBC in terms of positioning and market importance but yeah same kind of upgrade as the new 3DS.

You can call the new 3DS a gen 2 3DS if you want too.
